You might have pushed it to the back of your mind, especially considering the fact that it's been delayed a couple of times, but we've got a brand-new LEGO Star Wars game coming to Xbox One, Series X and Series S soon!
Everything we've seen about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga so far suggests it's going to be one of the most incredible LEGO games ever created, but what features will be included, and what happened with the delay?
Here's a catch-up of everything we know about LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga for Xbox so far...
What Is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga?
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the latest entry in the LEGO series of Star Wars games, featuring an adventure spanning all nine Star Wars mainline films, beginning with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and ending with Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
The entire game has been built from the ground-up, so this isn't a remaster - it's all brand-new. You'll be able to start the game at any point in the Star Wars saga, and explore loads of planets at your leisure.
Experience all nine saga films like never before in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Play through the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, help Luke Skywalker battle Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine, and duel for the fate of the galaxy with Rey and Kylo Ren in the new LEGO video game that immerses you in Star Wars like you’ve never seen it.
- Explore the Saga in Any Order
Players can dive into the Skywalker saga and access any of the nine saga films right away in any order they choose. They can direct where to go and how to play.
- Laugh-Out-Loud LEGO® Humor
All the unforgettable moments from the entire saga have been retold in new, fun-filled, hilarious LEGO® humor.
- Play as Iconic Heroes and Villains
There are hundreds of playable characters from throughout the galaxy and every era of the saga. Players can play as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Finn, BB-8 and a legion of other heroes, or turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren and more.
- Discover Legendary Locales
Players can visit legendary locales from their favorite Star Wars™ films such as the desert of Geonosis, the swamps of Dagobah and the snowfields of Starkiller Base. They can then travel through space and revisit any planet at any time. Expansive hub areas based on memorable settings from the films offer fun quests and more to explore.
- Powerful Player Experiences
Players can play on the light or dark side of the Force, master combat and take control of ships and vehicles for empowering adventures throughout the galaxy.
- Always Family Friendly
This is an imaginative and funny LEGO® gaming experience appropriate for kids of all ages. It is an accessible entry point into the Star Wars™ galaxy that is easy for a younger audience to pick up and play while still deep enough for anyone to enjoy.
How Many Characters And Planets Will LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Include?
According to an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine back in January 2021, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will feature 300 playable characters and 23 planets (with 28 unique locations to visit).
"There were around 300 playable characters made for this game but altogether about 800 unique characters were made. Our character team did a truly amazing job."
"There are 23 planets/moons with 28 unique locations that the player can visit, each full of quests, challenges, items, and characters to find. If you have a favourite Star Wars location it's pretty likely you can visit it in-game."
Which Xbox Consoles Is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Coming To?
Initially, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was announced as coming to Xbox One alone, but it's now also slated for a separate release on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, leveraging Smart Delivery.
No specific features have been revealed for the next-gen version as of yet, but we're assuming we'll get more information on this closer to the release. At the very least, expect improved visuals and performance.
What Is The LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Xbox Release Date?
The release date for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga on Xbox was moved around a couple of times, albeit unofficially. It was first said to be launching in October 2020 by the Star Wars YouTube channel before that video was removed, and its official release window then became Spring 2021 for all consoles.
However, it was confirmed back in April 2021 that the team needed more time to work on the game. A release window was eventually revealed at Gamescom as Spring 2022, so we've still got a few more months to wait.
What Has The Developer Said About The Game?
Here's a snippet of what Jonathan Smith, head of production and strategic director at TT Games, and Craig Derrick, managing producer at Lucasfilm Games had to say in an interview with StarWars.com:
Jonathan Smith: "As fans, we were always going to go big! With the conclusion of the Skywalker saga in Episode IX, and 15 years since the first LEGO Star Wars, it really felt like the right time to aim as high as possible; to create a LEGO landmark."
Craig Derrick: "Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity to build a LEGO Star Wars game from the ground up that brings all nine films of the Skywalker saga together for the first time in one moment, would you capture it or just let it slip? We all knew early that to do this right, we had to do it well, and to respect what has come before while bringing new elements to the franchise."
"We needed the game to feel epic in scope and scale while bringing the player intimately closer to the action like never before. This required new technology, new game mechanics, and a passionate team of developers to create a cast of hundreds and all the familiar worlds they populate — all with the charm and humor you expect with a LEGO Star Wars game. Quite frankly, this game is massive because it had to be."
Will LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Be On Xbox Game Pass?
There's no word on this yet, and you never know which games Microsoft is going to add to Xbox Game Pass until a few weeks before they're announced, so we can't be sure for the time being.
That said, we'd take a guess that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga probably won't be added to Xbox Game Pass at release, although there's every chance we could be wrong in our prediction!

@Deadcow Same here. Can't wait for this!
That looks like being a lot of fun, the later lego games have been pretty good so it'll be nice to play through all the movies with much improved gameplay over those older games
Can't really forget about it when it was featured on the back of the Series console box. I've been waiting on this one ever since it was hinted at back at Celebration last year. I've been confident it would be the greatest LEGO game since it was first announced at E3 thanks to those closed door impressions, and I'm also confident it will be one of the best Star Wars games. It really is a waiting game.
I'm looking forward to this, my son 5 loves the lego games. He has completed the lego star wars ones with me already.
The ONLY Lego game that I had to stop playing was the Lego Movie 2 game. It changed its whole landscape and I didn't appreciate that. If this game and every other Lego game they create goes back to the way they should be played, with having a hub and being able to choose which level you want to play and then playing it and being able to get all of the Gold Bricks, Red Bricks and Character tokens, then i will for sure be playing this. I played all of the other ones and if they do it the way we all Want them too, then it will be the best Lego game ever.
I'm not fussed on these articles. My first thought upon seeing the picture and seeing the name of the game is always "oooh, did (insert game name) get a release date?"
Then I see it's one of these Everything We Know So Far articles, which invariably lack the one piece of information that I actually want to know.
This will be fun to play with my 4 year old
So excited to play this one. Lego games are always a hit in our house. We've got Star Wars ones in various formats. Yesterday I got Lego City Undercover on sale with my Reward Points. I just hope the release date's not too far off!
I like that Craig Derrick appears to be an Eminem fan 😂
@niggyt2004 cool but there’s no way you were born in 2004 and have a 5 yr old son
The 2004 relates to a old yahoo email address when I started proper online gaming! I'm 46 yrs old
