The release of Rare's Everwild may still be a way off, but we've at least got some fresh news about it today in the form of a new hire for the team, with former Alien: Isolation lead designer Gary Napper joining the project.
Napper, who also served on the early design team for Halo Wars 2, took to Twitter yesterday to express his excitement at becoming Design Director on Everwild, stating that he's "looking forward to making some amazing things".
Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty provided an update on the progress of Everwild about a month ago, telling the Kinda Funny Gamescast that reports of a "reset" or "restructure" for the game were "probably a little more definite, a little more extreme than what really happens as a game comes to life."
It still sounds like it's a good few years away, but hopefully with Napper's extensive experience (Supermassive Games, Criterion, EA, Sony, Creative Assembly), the team will be able to create something even more special.
How are your hype levels for Everwild right now? Think it'll turn out to be something good? Let us know below.

Well it always seemed like they had no real direction for this game - just an aesthetic idea and concept. I can understand why a 'reset' may be a bit harsh because over the course of time, the ideas and concepts get expanded or scrapped as the game develops and as they progress, they have a more focussed idea of what the game will be and work towards that.
Sea of Thieves didn't start out with Pirates for example - that started off with an idea, some concepts that as it developed, changed to become the game that finally released. Its different from making a sequel which has a template from the previous game and allows for 'creativity' to explore ideas, concepts etc but at some point, a clear direction is needed...
Some of the ideas that don't make it, may also form the basis of the 'next' new IP if they liked it but ultimately didn't fit the direction they ended up going with.
.......have they...have they STARTED making this game yet? lol
i'm kidding, but this game (that i'm extremely excited for for no reason) seems to be years away, like 2024 seems optimistic at this point. sigh.
