We've been seeing and hearing occasional reports of games causing the Xbox Series X to crash or even shutdown entirely ever since launch, and now Xbox is implementing a fix for a couple of select games in particular.
This past weekend, an update rolled out to Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders targeting "titles such as NBA 2K22 and FIFA 22", with the goal to "eliminate console shut downs and improve stability of Xbox Series X consoles".
This build has fixes Eliminating console shut downs and Improved stability of Xbox Series X consoles when playing titles such as NBA 2K22 and FIFA 22.
Given that this update is only currently available to Xbox Insiders, we could be waiting a little while longer until it's released to the public, so you may still have a few issues with these games until that time.
It's good to see Xbox is working hard to remedy these occasional mishaps on Xbox Series X, and hopefully they'll soon be a thing of the past as developers get more acquainted with the unique quirks of the console.
Have you been having shutdown issues with games on Xbox Series X? Let us know down below.

I’m still having issues w quick resume for Valhalla ans I know they released a patch back in November 20 and again in the spring. Still happens.
All good. Manual saves made it easier for me to see multiple outcomes rather than looking online and reading spoilers.
@Microbius I also had the "Cant Save" error pop up if I did a quick resume. Had to restart the game about 70% of the time when coming back to play.
Hilariously, the Series X booted that sucker up in a very timely manner.
@Stnkygrngo Quick Resume is still a mess, which is disappointing as this is probably the Series X biggest feature over the competition and one they rightfully made a big deal about last year.
New games don't seem to have it, at least not all the time. I can't test to see if any ever have gotten it right out of the gate as I have yet to play a game on the Series X on release day. Even if the system shows that the game is Quick Resume compatible, it might turn out to be a lie. Out of my last two games I've played on there, Quick Resume actually worked with Scarlet Nexus on over 10 attempts and only failed to actually load right back into the game once, while it has never worked with The Medium even though the UI says it should.
Honestly, putting the PS5 in Sleep Mode and hoping there isn't an update that ends up closing your game has proved to be far more reliable for me so far. To get back on topic though, it is indeed good to see them fixing issues with other things.
My series X shut down playing Marvel Avengers the other day.
In regard to the quick resume comments, it has worked fine for me except that after a system update, games restart. It has been one of my favourite features of the console this far. I had some connectivity issues with the controller last year but not anymore.
Hello
Yes, I had the same problem.
After twenty minutes of playing in FIFA 22, run from the optical drive, it stopped.
From the point of view of console stability, Sony is more attentive to the details.
We have sent the console back to the warranty for repair.
In case the problem is not corrected, I will return to Sony.
My Xbox SX console was manufactured in July 2021
Have had a lot of issues with FH4 + QR
Theses issues should NEVER happen. We outsourced coding to "DiVeRSITy" and now we have to deal daily with this kind of stuff or security incidents.
My SNES never shutdown on itself in 25 years, never crashed or required updates. Coding on these systems required real programming skills unlike Java Paj33t robot. Not blaming the Xbox in particular, but the entire gaming tech industry. At least, Xbox are fixing their stuff, unlike some other vendors...I regret the time when everything was made simpler and manufactured in Japan or EU/US.
Day 2 of owning Xbox Series X. Playing Halo Infinite via Game Pass. During play 7 times today over a 2 hour period it has kicked me out back to the main menu. The saved game day is gone. I have to restart to get it back. Then after following recommended steps by Xbox support, it happened again. Then, it froze during play and shut down. I’ve had my PS5 for 7 months, I’ve played 5 hours straight God of War and Ghost of Tsushima, not a single glitch. It has never kicked me out of a game or shut down on me. I’m about ready to return this. Issues like this are why I stopped buying windows laptops years ago. I still use my 10 year old MBP, never once has it crashed, froze or shut down on me. I think Microsoft just doesn’t know how to make good software, or hardware obviously.
