Battlefield 2042's open beta is now available for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and EA Play members, but it appears it's not all smooth sailing. Many users are reporting an array of graphical issues, such as flashing lights and other various glitches.
The experience seems to be fairly widespread, as we have also run into an abundance of problems. From the short time we played the beta, flickering was the biggest problem we encountered, making the game extremely hard to play. Buildings would constantly flash and disorientate us quite regularly.
It seems everyone else is also going through a similar experience. Users on social media have reported a variety of problems across Xbox, which isn't boding well.
It is important to note this build of the game is a few months old. EA DICE's general manager Oskar Gabrielson claimed there have been multiple "improvements to the visuals and stability" that didn't make it into this current Beta build.
Battlefield 2042's lead community manager echoed similar thoughts, claiming the build is a few months old and that they're "making daily improvements, changes, and enhancements all the time".
We'll have to wait and see how the full release is when it launches on November 19 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

Been a lot of issues recently this and downloading issues etc.
I have series x and none of these issue in the UK.
Guess I’m lucky.
I reckon we'll see this even more this gen where 'going gold' means so little when they're in the mindset of not not even aiming to get a game finished for physical releases anymore. Long as it's fixed launch day... particularly with bug studios anyway.
Software Beta has bugs. Guess the free testing is working as intended. Now back to the work to fix them all and see you when you're ready....
I took part in the first game test.
I hated it.
It looked like garbage and was a buggy mess. I was even playing on a Series X.
Well
It is called Beta for a reason
It's pretty buggy and the shadows are wonky, giving off screen tearing. The map is insanely huge! But, I did still enjoy it and I think people have a misunderstanding of what a beta is. Too many expect these to be a polished demo. As mentioned, this is an older build by a couple months. Though, odd why they wouldn't have tested out a later build and they are getting close to launch. So, hopefully it's all cleaned up by launch.
Yeah definitely a beta experience. Gunplay and graphics were great for the scale of scope of 128 players on the battlefield.
A teammates tank shoved my jeep into the floor of the map. Had graphic stuttering issues. Had a friend jump on his placed turret and get shot up into the air. The ragdoll physics are very fun but I got shot out of the drivers seat doing backflips. Got out of a car next to a wall and spawned in the building.
Bugs are fine and can be funny. Definitely need to iron out spawning or it's going to be infuriating trying to take points while a whole squad appears out of nowhere. Going to definitely be getting patches well after launch to fix some of these bugs and I'm going to assume some will never be fixed.
Overall Battlefield 2042 has been a mess. If you want a good, large, shooter, 50 v 50, Hell Let Loose is the way to go.
None of this surprises me given how EA has been treating Battlefield. Was playing it last night on Series X and even thing like water were screwed up.
And that's even ignoring the awful game play loop. No idea why the thought making it a hero based game was a good idea.
Being able to change parts on your gun while deployed is a huge turn off as well. The idea was to do in with the correct stuff, and if you chose wrong, sorry. But now you can just play an assault with a an ammo pack and sniper rifle that you can put a suppressor or scope on at will.
On top of all this you cannot edit your character out of game, you can only do while while playing, which again is a terrible decision.
Whatever this is, it isn't Battlefield.
I'm not sure why they struggle so. Literally all that has been asked for is Battlefield 4 with Bad Company's level destruction.
this sound like late alfa not beta version;p
also no mouse+keyboard ? sad
@InterceptorAlpha Lol, pretty sure you'll be able to edit your character outside of the battle. This is a beta, not the full game... Most of the normal menu features aren't available in it. I don't mind the gun editing on the fly. Most of the adjustments are minor ones and you are at risk of getting shot while doing them. So, it's a gamble. It's definitely buggy on this old build and they got a lot of polish to do before this launches.
@Trmn8r Why would you assume that? It has been removed from the past couple Battlefields.
This is a server test. At this point any changes that are made have been made and the code base is set. Any additional changes to the code will be done so after release.
Gun editing isn't a gamble at all. Literally every change can be made in less than half a second.
Seems like i choose the right game this year Vangard for the single player over the bug filled multiplayer only battlefield.
@InterceptorAlpha Because the menu literally has one option in the beta. That isn't going to be what it looks like when the game releases. The only one making a lot of assumptions is you. Change the code to have a class editor in the menu? Dude, you realize they can just disable that option quite easily for a beta, like they disabled the other modes in the menu.
Only takes a half second to get shot. Takes more like 3 secs realistically to change loadouts and the gun does like a reload equivalent to swap the parts. Though I'm sure they'll be those ***** that can do it in 1.5 heh.
On one hand: It IS a beta. Weird graphical glitches and bugs are to be expected.
On the other hand: It's a pretty poor first impression. Why not wait till closer to launch and do a stress test with a later build?
On the.. third... hand?: I don't think I've ever played a Battlefield beta that wasn't dumpster fire.
@Trmn8r my assumptions are based on prior evidence. IIRC there has not been an out of game class editor since Battlefield 3.
I have no idea how it could take remotely near 3 seconds when the hot keys are the same for every weapon. Y is always scopes, X is always barrel end, etc. After reading what each piece is for a given weapon, unless you change guns, you shouldn't need to look over them again.
All in all though it all goes back to the very fault with the gameplay itself, classes being pointless, and playing more like Star Wars Battlefront than Battlefield.
@InterceptorAlpha Completely agree with changing weapons on the fly. It is just catering to players that live to find glitches and exploits.
@InterceptorAlpha By "out of game", are you talking like on your phone on an app? Because, when I think out of game, I'm thinking out of a live match in the menu system and that was where I was talking about.
I tried it last night and was not a fan. If anything, the map was way too big. Felt like I was running for a while before I found any action lol
It's a beta and not only that it's an older build of the game. What do people expect??
As many people complain about the "beta" there are just as many that defend its "beta" status as some kind of state that will mean everything will be magically fixed in one month till release. A beta with this many glitches and bugs that is supposedly on a few months old build will release with at least 50% of them. This game will be rough as hell at launch.
After all the hate halo got for fruit and tire physics, I'm shocked at the fact that hardly anyone is talking about how sad of a situation bf 2042 is right now. I played literally one game yesterday, around 20-30 mins? and came across more glitches in those 30 min than I did in 15 hours of halo. The game should 100% be delayed, it literally has no campaign, and the multiplayer is broken, couldn't even log in today.
I had no issues on Series X but this genre of video game seems to be for younger folks with lots of time on their hands RE multiple respawns and not much in the way of story/mission content. Warzone was perfect for lockdowns mind you!
Lots of graphical bugs on PS5/XSX. And it looks bad, I dont get why everyone is praising the graphics...
xbox one version on xbox series s is shat and it is not working
xbox s version on series s works fine just some shadow flickering
Played on series x. Game Full of flickering, getting shot by invisible people, unable shoot people that seem to teleport, etc.
Yes this is a beta. But...yes this is also Dice. Known for rubber banding, terrible online issues. Battlefield bad company 2 was a mess. Battlefield 3 another mess.
Not feeling great about this game at all now.
