Well here's a nice surprise we weren't expecting! Bethesda has revealed today that Quake has received a free next-gen upgrade for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S (and PS5), now running at up to 4K and 120 frames per-second.
Details are limited on the upgrade, but Bethesda says 4K is the "maximum resolution", while 120fps is a new option for applicable displays. We're assuming Series S can run the game at 120fps as well, but just not at 4K resolution.
Additionally, the game now features Xbox Play Anywhere support, which means if you own Quake on console, you'll get the PC version at no extra charge (or vice-versa). Don't forget that Quake is already included with Xbox Game Pass anyway, so this upgrade is totally free to download for everyone with an XGP subscription.
Xbox Series X|S
- 4K maximum resolution**
- 120 FPS**
- Xbox Play Anywhere support
PlayStation 5
- 4K maximum resolution**
- 120 FPS**
- DualSense™ Adaptive Trigger and integrated speaker support
** Compatible monitor required for 4K and 120FPS

I thought when this came out they actually said it would be later upgraded for next gen. Glad to see it here nonetheless.
Sure enough, from your own article:
“ Additionally, the game will be getting a free next-gen upgrade in the near future”.
So not really unexpected.
I wish that owners of the B.Net version such as I got the MS Store version free
Still gonna give me motion sickness. But now it'll be 120fps motion sickness!
Nice. I had been waiting to play the game until the Series X version was released, so now I can put it on my list to play in the near future.
Hopefully it's a solid enough version of the game. I'm not expecting it to look like a brand new game like Doom Eternal, but at least solid will be nice. Hopefully it's a solid 60 FPS too.
Smooth as silk.
Will play this after back4blood
Where is the Dishonored 2 60fps patch?!
I really need to get this game. Never got around to playing it, so I can't think of a better time to jump in.
@TJ81 As I understand it Dishonored 2 always had a few problems with frame rate, pacing and even crashing for some (though I didn't experience the last personally, there's plenty of evidence of it on the web)
I suspect they will have tried FPS boost with Dishonored 2 and had some issues. It would be VERY strange if they didn't test it considering ALL the other Dishonored games are on there, including the sequel Death of Outsider.
I really love the feature but wish they were a little more transparent about when or if we might expect releases.
@themightyant Good points. I really hope they are making the effort behind the scenes. It's been in my backlog for too long but I've now been thoroughly spoiled by 60fps experiences making it hard to go back (at least in shooter and 3rd person action games).
