Update: The time has arrived, Microsoft Flight Simulator fans! The Game of the Year update is now available for Asobo Studio's highly-rated simulator, adding an absolute ton of new content for free with Xbox Game Pass.
You can find the full patch notes at the official MFS website, along with the key details below.
Original story: As if Microsoft Flight Simulator wasn't incredible enough, the team at Asobo Studio has announced a special Game of the Year Edition of the game, which will be available as a free update for existing players on PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. This means you'll also be able to get access to it via Xbox Game Pass.
So, what's new? You're looking at five new aircraft, eight hand-crafted new airports, new missions, new tutorials, new photogrammetry cities and more. Better yet, the GOTY Edition is also implementing a few "highly requested features by the community", such as an updated weather system and dev mode replay system.
Additionally, the game's first major expansion will arrive on the same day in the form of Reno Air Races, bringing online racing to Flight Sim for the first time. However, this won't be free, with the base pack available at $19.99, and the Full Collection with 40 licensed aircraft available at $59.99.
There's a lot of information to take in here, so for full details on both the Game of the Year Edition and Reno Air Races, we advise you to head to the official Microsoft Flight Simulator website. Look out for all of this on November 18th!
"We can’t wait for you to experience this expanded edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator on November 18th. We encourage you to invite your friends to experience the wonders of flight. The sky is calling!"
Will you be returning to Flight Sim for the Game of the Year edition this November? Tell us down below.

Incredible achievement. The most next gen thing i've seen across all systems, the whole world in the palm of your hand. (Just don't get too close or the magic dies just a little.)
It's biggest failings are it's menu UI (on Console) and the fact it IS the whole world means longer flights can be a bit dull, there's a good reason games are usually smaller worlds.
Regardless look forward to dipping in more.
Hope they let you download world updates without having to be in the game menus to do so.
@themightyant This game was a system seller and major reason for getting a Series X to go along with my PS5. It's amazing how you virtually & literally have the world at your fingertips.
And I definitely agree, the UI is majorly frustrating! Clearly designed for PC mouse & keyboard...
Damn do they not sleep at asobo? Can't even imagine how much you have to work to achieve this.
I'm sure most of you already know but for those that don't. It does support keyboard and mouse on Xbox within menus and in game.
@ferret_75 I do. But I'm not sure if I should clutter the living room even further considering I have a racing equipment already, the wife might kill me lol.
Can you suggest a cheap wireless keyboard & mouse? I might be able to stow it underneath the couch or something. Cheap, because Flight Sim will probably be the one & only game that I would use this for...
@eagletrippin Why not try a wireless keyboard with integrated mouse pad? I did try a Logitech K400 Plus which worked fine but the mouse pad resolution was a bit low so the cursor was slow around the screen. You can increase the cursor speed in the xbox menus though which made it acceptable.
@eagletrippin You can use any USB keyboard, Mac or PC, even really old ones. You can pick a second hand one on eBay super cheap. I dug an old Mac keyboard out if the loft for this.
@Barry_Biscuits Yes I could get a wired keyboard & mouse easily. But I need to go wireless.
@ferret_75 That is an option🤔
Manual cache.
It's a must have for me. The PC version has it, but not the console version. Without it, and with my poor internet connection, I just loose the point of the all game.
Please, Asobo, just allow the manual cache on console !
I was super excited for this but after playing it and seeing my city and stuff like that, the truth is that flying planes is boring as heck xD
