The latest Xbox Insider update for members of the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring went live last night, and it includes a brand-new feature in the form of 'Night Mode', adding some handy new tools for late-night gamers.
As you can see in the video above (courtesy of The Verge's Tom Warren), Night Mode allows you to dim and filter your screen, as well as dim your console & controller LED brightness. Here's the full explanation:
"Night Mode has now been added as a new feature in Settings! Users can now dim and filter their screen, as well as dim their console & controller LED brightness. Please note that localization is still pending, so the feature is currently only available in English."
Early reactions to the new feature have been highly positive, with fans particularly praising the ability to dim their console's power button and controller lights when playing in the dark.
There's no word on when Night Mode will be rolled out to the public, but new features typically progress through the Insider program pretty quickly, so we're assuming it'll only be a matter of a few weeks.

Awesome. This feature will get a lot of use from me.
That’s fantastic! Will this also be available for Windows 10? Maybe not so much the screen, but the controller?
Nice! This is especially nice for my controller when playing in a dark room and the screen suddenly turns black
New feature is cool but i still want them to prioritize on massively improving the built-in game recording feature
Improve Game recording and add directly uploading to YouTube.
Great little feature.
Sounds great. I hope they also allow achievements to count for microsoft rewards after midnight since that's when I get most of mine.
@Turnip_Knight they'll count from 1am onwards. I've had the same issue trying to do anything Rewards-related on the Bing app or website. New activities show up at midnight but you can't actually do them until 1am.
We want Intense light for day mode please please please 🙏🙏🙏 Microsoft
Oh that's awesome, have wanted to dim the controller light FOREVER
The dimming of controller light will be the main thing for me
Not a fan of the look of it
So glad to see this. I miss the days when controllers didn't have lights on them.
@Residentsteve01 you can turn off all notifications in the settings.
I usually play late evenings in the dark so this feature is most welcome.
@Residentsteve01 what I meant was that because it is possibøl to turn off all notifications you can choose to only turn off gamepass notifications. Have you checked in the settings. Is very easy to find under the notificaion tab in the settings menu.
i would like it if in the Games section when you "sort by size" the game sizes listed in the games section were actually the sizes they took up rather than the defualt base only size
This is the feature I've been waiting on.
Especially for watching movies : I'm always trying to hide the X logo of my Series X, with some kind of black tissue or whatever. When I'm watching a movie, I don't want anything to distract me from the screen.
So, good job on this one !
My Elite Series 2 controller has been dimmable for years, and where we have our Series Xs, you can't see the power button anyway.
I remember though before I had these and just dealing with how bright everything was. Definitely look forward to others getting this feature.
Thank goodness.
As a lot of you are saying, they need to improve the game recording feature. Coming from the PS4, the Xbox Series is lacking in this area; and how about a video editing software as well.
So I can dim everything to keep the wife happy and then I can use the dpad and the clicks can drive her crazy. Great plan.
kinda funny seeing this feature, given that the series controller is so obnoxiously LOUD compared to a nintendo pro controller or a ps5 dualsense. It sounds like those old IBM Model M keyboards.
i tried it, its great if you watch tv at night, but for gaming F that i did set it up for 1am-7am as thats when i normally turn discovery+ on and fall asleep to How its Made but when i was playing apex it made the game nearrly impossible to play as it was hard to see people with the blue filter on.... and i can dim my screen with a remote so that feature is pointless for me.
with all that said at 1am i did find it was easier to watch the tv with it on and i fell asleep faster acording to my Halo(amazon Halo)
