Developer Remedy has released its half-year review report over the past 24 hours-or-so, and the most noteworthy news to come out of it is that Control has surpassed 10 million players, contributing to plans for a "bigger-budget" sequel.
Here's what Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, had to say about Control's success and future in the report:
"Control has already reached a formidable audience, having been played by over 10 million players. The growing audience and brand awareness are valuable as we continue to support Control and develop Condor, and we are in the early conception phase for a future, bigger-budget Control game."
"I am happy with the progress we have made so far in 2021. Our financial position is stronger than before. Control continues to reach new players, expands into new games, and is a strong proof of our ability to create category defining games and brands."
Remedy highlighted Condor in the report, which is an upcoming 4-player cooperative PvE experience (and a spin-off of Control) set to release on Xbox Series X and Series S, but didn't provide any new information. Xbox shooter CrossfireX was also name-dropped, which is reportedly still scheduled to release this year.
But back to Control, it's no surprise to us that Remedy has enjoyed a lot of success with the IP so far, and it's great that a bigger budget will be in place for the sequel. Let's hope it lives up to the high expectations set by the original.

Great news, Control is one of the best games of the last few years and a technical marvel too, especially on PC with high end Nvidia GPU. I can't wait to see what they do next
I thought control was a very overrated game it was weird yes but pretty average
I enjoyed control but I didn't think it was any better than Quantum break....so I find it baffling one is so highly looked upon and the other isn't.
@StylesT well Control is ofc multiplat, and didn't quantum break just release in a bad xbox period back when the xbox has no exclusives shouts were the loudest? (Genuinely asking)
I really enjoyed Control, and would really like Remedy to update Quantum Break with the same engine version used in Control.
I own the game just never got around to playing it yet..
@StylesT I’m with ya. I really liked QB and am disappointed that it gets no love.
Control was good. But at the end of the day, it felt like they tried to remake Quantum Break on a small budget. And everything from animations to acting shows this.
Quantum Break did pretty much everything better with a fantastic live action show to boot. Nevermind the story under the story that is told much the same way they did in Control.
Still waiting for the sequel that'll never come.
I mean early on Control just looked like a sequel to QB with a different name but then It performed a lot better. QB is an amazing game. Sadly it released during Xbox's darkest days and now it won't have a chance to shine anymore either.
Amazing game but I hope they actually work on optimizing the sequel. I played it originally on PS4 Pro and it ran like crap even after they patched it. Played it again on Series S and while it ran better it still had framerate issues and it crashed constantly.
Control 2 with a bigger budget is a great idea, but we also need an next gen update of quantum break!
I'm not sure that could be easily achieved, since quantum break had many frame rate issues even in high end pc's.
The Ashtray Maze was exhilarating in Control.
looks at Alan Wake
I think you have... other.... priorities, Remedy.
