It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, to celebrate the announcement of a Saints Row reboot heading to Xbox in February 2022, we thought we'd take a look back at the history of the beloved series on Xbox.
Every single Saints Row game has been on Xbox, ever since the first one all the way back in 2006 for Xbox 360, but the question is, which is your favourite of them all? Remember, you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Saints Row (2006)
Join the 3rd Street Saints in their battle for control of Stilwater in the 1st urban open world game for the Xbox 360! Offering extensive character customization, 13 unique pick up activities, 4 story lines, and a sprawling city that's unlocked from the start, Saints Row is the next evolutionary step in open world gaming.
Saints Row 2 (2008)
Help the 3rd Streets take back their city in this explosive sequel to the 2006 hit. Saints Row 2 features unparalleled character creation and customization; a massive open world to explore by land, air or sea; and online co-op play that enables you and a friend play through the entire story of Saints Row 2.
Saints Row: The Third (2011 / 2020)
Years after taking Stilwater for their own, the Third Street Saints have evolved from street gang to household brand name. Their celebrity status has not gone unnoticed. The Syndicate, a legendary criminal fraternity with pawns in play all over the globe, has turned its eye on the Saints and demands tribute.
Saints Row IV (2013)
The Saints have gone from the crackhouse to the White House—but the Earth has been invaded and it’s up to you to free the world from Overlord Zinyak and his alien empire.
Saints Row: Gat Out Of Hell (2015)
After the antics of Saints Row IV, many asked what we could do next...the answer? Shoot The Devil in the face. Play as either Johnny Gat or Kinzie Kensington as you tear apart Hell in a quest to save the Bosses’ soul. Historical icons, old friends, older enemies, a talking gun, a full length musical number & a whole lot more shenanigans await you in this open-world standalone expansion playground.
Let us know which of these Saints Row Xbox games is your favourite below.

Easily the 3rd.
SR4, I just love that it's basically a superhero game. Props to SR3 though for having Tomonobu Itagaki as a playable character. Dude is a gaming legend.
The third game hands down.
SR2 for me, but all of the games are pretty damn good.
The 2nd just beats the 3rd for me. But have enjoyed them all.
Parts 2 and 4 are my favorites. Best music too.
I loved the first one. Big surprise back then and as a GTA fan, a good experience. After the third I gave up on the series. Became too much over the top for me ...
Preferred 4 mainly because by that point the Saints were full on anti heroes. The powers are crazy though. Plus Keith David is in it. (It was weird hearing Goliath dropping f bombs though.) I’ve always said Saints Row is for people that want a urban sandbox game but hate GTA.
Saints Row 2 is easily my favourite, and I still enjoy it even now.
I never bothered with GTA until number 5 came along.
To be fair, the OG Saints Row (1) was my only reason for buying a 360.
Ryu, you said that Keith David was in SR4, but he was also in the first two.
He is the voice of Julius Little, the founder of the Third Street Saints.
I seem to remember that at some point in Saints Row 2, the Boss (you) actually kills Julius.
For me, Mass Effect was always strange to begin with - seeing Admiral Anderson, yet hearing Julius Little.
Easily the second game. The first was hilariously buggy but pretty good fun anyway. The second really perfected the formula, fixing the bugs and performance issues of the first while adding a whole slew of great new features.
Part three wasn’t bad, but the story was utterly incoherent, half the missions were locked behind DLC and it was much lighter on content compared to SR2. It was like they just took the side missions from SR2 and made them the main missions and didn’t include any of the main missions, making the game much smaller.
It was missing some of the funnier side missions from SR2 as well, like driving a sewerage truck to spray sewage all over buildings to reduce their value for a real estate developer. Or the bodyguard missions where you’d protect the celebrity by throwing obsessed fans into the helicopter blades or off the top of the building.
SR3 was also the start of the SR games being over the top all the time. The more grounded style of SR2 meant the over the top stuff in SR2 was that much funnier thanks to the contrast.
@Matthewnh so three points. If you don’t tag people they usually won’t know you said anything to them.
However I wasn’t talking about Keith David doing voice acting. I meant literally what I said: Keith David is in SR4.
Also I came in on 3 as I hate GTA (or games mimicking it) so while I went back later and youtubed 1&2 (to follow references made in 4), they mean nothing to me.
So again, I prefer SR4 for the reasons I stated.
Number two for me, from the third forward it has become too wacky for my taste. I prefer them with less hero's powers (I am actually looking forward to the reboot)
@Shigurui The creator of DOA is in SR3? Mindblowing as boob physics!
Voted 3. The first was little more than a GTA me-too clone by the newly THQ-acquired volition, and a game that fans of Summoner shall forever abhor the existence of.
2 was a bit more of the same, really, but it started forming its identity. 3 was where it really all came together into something unique. 4 and Gat were fantastic games, and really fun extensions of it, but it still feels like a spiral of crazy from the roots of 3. It can't be a series about space aliens forever, so 3 as a template makes the most sense.
@MattDaSmitdog Yeah, around the time that SR3 launched Itagaki was in talks with THQ/Volition to use their engine for his game Devil's Third. They used his likeness to promote SR3 and put it in the game.
