Last week saw the release of DOOM Eternal for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S as a free upgrade, and now developer id Software has taken to Twitter to share an update on what's next for the game over the coming months.
The big news is that the team will be abandoning plans for an "Invasion Mode" update due to challenges brought on by the pandemic and remote working, but instead will be "redirecting focus" and creating a totally new single-player horde mode which will offer fans "more of the diversity and challenge you're looking for."
In addition, DOOM Eternal will also be getting a refresh of BATTLEMODE which will include a more competitive, rank-based structure, a number of gameplay and balance updates, and another new map.
It's great to see that id Software is continuing to provide meaningful support for DOOM Eternal, even after two major expansions and a free Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S upgrade. Bring on the horde mode!
Happy to hear about the plans for a single-player horde mode? Let us know down in the comments below.

I’ve just started playing through the campaign again after the next gen update for the Series X.
The game looks truly phenomenal and is an absolute joy to play through again.
Sometimes (once I’ve cleared the demons) I look around the area and marvel at the graphics and the ray tracing.
ID have done an amazing job and that’s great news to hear they’re still supporting the game going forward still.
Does this game have a co-op mode?
There will be more paid dlc coming for it that's why they called the season pass the year one pass
What I want is a new Quake! 🤟🏼
