THQ Nordic and Experiment 101’s long-awaited action-RPG Biomutant will finally be with us on Tuesday, May 25, and in an interview with Gaming Bolt, the game's developer recently revealed how long it'll take to complete.
According to studio head Stefan Ljungqvist, a rushed playthrough will take around about 12-15 hours, although this completely ignores side-quests, exploration and even dialogue in some cases. Here's the full quote:
"Our estimation for a 'rushed' run-through of Biomutant is at about 12-15 hours. This means: focus on the main story, skip most dialogues, don’t go wandering off for exploration and ignore sidequests. On the other hand, one of our team-members is just giving Biomutant a go the way he usually plays games. He isn’t done yet and has about 65 hours of playtime. So it really depends on what type of player you are."
Ljungqvist also noted in the interview that Biomutant features two endings "depending on which tribe you allied with and how you acted towards other tribes," and your other choices will also be reflected on when the game ends.
We're just two weeks away from the release date now, then, and if you want to get ahead of the game and pre-order Biomutant right now, it's available from the Microsoft Store with free Mercenary class DLC for £54.99 / $59.99.

When I was younger, I preferred longer games, but now, I prefer shorter ones. It is good to hear that it is possible to finish the game under 20 hours.
Ouch @ locking an entire class behind a preorder bonus.
Other than that this game looks and sounds great. Could be a sleeper hit!
I can't wait to spend at least 65 hours on this game. I love long games and the longer the better. Short games are ok if they are made correctly, but games like this, need to be long. I have been waiting for this game for years and it's finally here! Hopefully they come out with a Series X update soon. Also, extremely happy that an Entire class gets unlocked because of a pre-order (which i did)
I love being able to decide how long of an experience the game is. AC Odyssey was a perfect example. Many people thought it was too long, but I put in 135 hours and enjoyed every minute. Other games I wouldn't have put that many hours into.
@Axlroselm I'm big on shorter games as i was notorious for never finishing games. I've greatly improved in this field since jumping back into gaming but knowing a game takes 60 hours to play (likely 70-80 for me) I'm put off of even starting it. I'll be starting the Outer World's shortly so that will be a bit longer and then i think I'll try and play FFX after that. If i finish that game it will be a massive milestone. It will be the longest game I've finished and also the first FF game I've ever finished!
Reading here that there's a bunch of pre-orders, do all pre-orders get that extra class? Just wondering as in the digital age I don't get why you would pre-order when you can just downloaded it day one and you can get reviews to see if it's a finished product actually before spending your money. Not bashing just trying to understand the motivation for pre-orders in a digital age.
I love a long game so long as it keeps me entertained and doesn't become too repetitive. My two longest games (for just one playthrough) are Skyrim at 920 hours, and New Vegas at 980 hours. Both games done right, and thoroughly enjoyed. It is very unusual for me to not finish a game, but I have played a fair few where I started to get bored and just wished they would end.
I always complete every side-quest, and explore everywhere on the map, and that, together with attempting most games on the hardest difficulty, means it's pretty much a given that I will double any time the Developers say it will take to complete a game. In fact, if you include having to redo sections of a game because of having died, or missed something (which isn't generally reflected in the time shown when making a save), I dread to think how long some games take me to finish...
I have Biomutant on pre-order, so if the Developer says 65 hours, I'm probably looking at around 100 or so...
Ahh those young folks.... Now working, marriage and with kids... shorter is better.
Jokes aside, this is the perfect scenario, main campaign relative short and long if you really want to explore/collect/craft everything.
@fabiotc I'm at the opposite end; retired, divorced (happily!), kids grown up. Plenty of time to game...
@OliverOwen out of curiosity, why would you want things like a class locked behind a pre-order? I completely get cosmetic enhancements or a special item or XP booster. Just not sure I can get behind the idea of essentially punishing future players who buy the game post launch. It's literally a core part of the game.
@fabiotc I have a wife and 2 children actually lol. So i know what its like to only get a few hours of gaming in... However, i still prefer games that have a long story and take at least 40 hours to complete without doing a single side quest or without exploring anything at all. The longer games have more meaning to me personally.
@Generik It is an incentive to pre-order. If you want the bonus, and are planning on getting the game anyways, there is you reason to pre-order.
For an open world game that's a little shorter than I'd prefer, but if the game is as good as it looks then it won't even matter, and if the side quests are good i won't have any problem putting 35+ hours into it
