We're so close to the release of Resident Evil Village we can almost taste it, and Capcom definitely hasn't pumped the brakes on promoting the game. In fact, the throttle has been pushed all the way forward as more and more news drops every day. Now, we have a new look at the game's Mercenaries mode, and what players can expect from it.
In an exclusive look from IGN, the mode's first area has been showcased, as well as some of the features players can expect. The main goal is to defeat a certain amount of enemies to advance to the next area, but for those who want the best score, a combination of time and skill is needed to get to the top. You can build combos and find some roguelite elements in the form of ability orbs. These can give you unique perks such as damage or health upgrades which remain until the end of your run.
As mentioned by IGN, the added verticality of Resident Evil Village's level design creates some unique situations. Enemies will jump from rooftops, attack from below, or swarm you in cramped environments. As you replay the mode, you'll undoubtedly find strategies that work for you and build up your score.
Between these hectic firefights is The Duke's Emporium, where players can buy new weapons, upgrades, and ammo to assist them in the upcoming battle. It's a great new feature which encourages experimentation from players as they attempt to build their best character to beat their high score.
Resident Evil Village is looking to be a pretty substantial package of content. We don't have much longer to wait for the full release, which launches on May 7, but if you can't wait, a time limited demo is dropping this weekend, and has been extended for a week following fan feedback.

The enemies look kinda weird, Resi 8 certainly seems less scary than Resi 7
