Oh, we have got a treat for fans of 120fps gaming! Microsoft has revealed today that no less than 13 EA games are getting FPS Boosts on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and 12 of them now run at 120fps on Xbox Series X.
Here's the full list, complete with specifications for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S:

Battlefield 1 | 120fps | N/A | No |
Battlefield 4 | 120fps | 120fps | Yes |
Battlefield V | 120fps | N/A | No |

Titanfall 2 | 120fps | 120fps | No |

These FPS Boosts will be available as of today, but be warned that not all of them are turned on by default on Xbox Series X, so you'll need to activate them under the Compatibility Options in the 'Manage game and add-ons' setting.
"In some instances, because there are higher graphics requirements to enable FPS Boost technology, we’ve had to reduce a game’s resolution to ensure it both runs smoothly and plays great. In those select cases, FPS Boost is not automatically enabled for Xbox Series X gamers."

That is absolutely awesome! Amazing what these new generation consoles are capable of, especially the S.
I was hoping we'd get more games upgraded to 60 FPS like Farcry 5 and Assassin's Creed Origins or Odyssey.. My TV isn't HDMI 2.1 so it doesn't support 120 FPS, So this is a bit disappointing for me.. Happy for those though who have TVs that support 120 FPS and haven't played these games..
This is incredible - Super excited to see this continue!
@Bmartin001 Hell, Titanfall 2’s campaign is so good that it’ll be worth replaying again with 120 FPS.
I am very excited to try Battlefront 2 and Titanfall 2 at 120fps in particular. Mirror's Edge Catalyst is the perfect type of game to get a 120fps boost as well
Just a shame that not everyone can benefit from 120fps right now.
Nice, I just picked up all the battlefield games yesterday for £12
Titanfall 2's campaign is GOAT material, and I'll happily replay it in 120FPS!
Alright. Gonna have to move titanfall 2 to the ssd.
Nothing to see here if you've not got a 120hz display, that's a shame. Was hoping Dragon Age Inquisition might have had a 60fps boost. Still when I do get a TV capable of this it'll be good to have.
@Trotterwatch I believe the team ran into some kind of problem with Dragon Age right at the last minute. It was definitely planned for a boost a couple of months ago.
@FraserG Yeah I thought that too, such a shame as it would definitely benefit from a boost. Don't want to moan too much though, it's great that Microsoft are doing this.
Very nice, thank you Xbox.
Keep these enhancements coming.
This one's a little bit of a bummer for me since my TV - like most standard TVs - only supports up to 60fps. I was hoping for some of the Assassin's Creed games, Dragon Age: Inquisition, or Dishonored 2 to get a boost. That said, this is a wonderful feature so it feels silly to criticize the choices. Glad Microsoft keeps doing this!
EA don't always do things great but now they do (even if it's just agreeing with Microsoft's suggestions)! I expect more companies to join the FPS boost, though. So many last-gen 30fps games!
My comment from Monday:
"I have a feeling this next set of FPS Boost games will be very multiplayer focused to push that 120Hz competitive feel."
Told you so!
What a bummer that Series S is left out in some titles. While 120fps is great, i mainly care about of FPS Boost as a way of enhancing games from 30fps to 60fps. Does all of the titles mentioned above already 60fps on Series S?
120 FPS is a game changer. I’ve been playing Cold War at 120fps since January on series x and it feels like a major advantage. There is no motion blur when spinning around to aim. Milliseconds count in online multiplayer. Can’t wait to put BFV in 120 mode.
Excellent, and this news is after Ive got my capture card working. Problem has been many TVs are 60fps while the ones that do dont come in smaller sizes and are just expensive. My gaming laptop and my capture card fixes that.
dont like the reduction in resolution so wont use it
Is this the next batch from Xbox? Or something EA just did themselves.
Cos these are mostly already 60fps. Meaningless for those of us without a 120Hz screen.
@endlessleep @Trainer I believe they run at 60fps already, so this is just a boost to 120fps for applicable displays.
@Dezzy Yes, its a batch from Xbox.
Dammit, that’s the wrong Mirror’s Edge, but the Series X is worth buying just for 120fps Titanfall 2 alone now!
Some of these games have had their resolutions lowered to run at 120fps, so I don't believe you need hdmi 2.1 for these, just a 120hz display will do. You can always drop the xbox's output to 1440p manually in the settings too.
I have found VRR to not really be worth the effort, my Samsung has a thing called Game Motion Mode. It doesn't increase input lag like other Motion modes I have had in older tvs, which rendered games unplayable. It makes everything look really smooth, even the 30fps games. Not sure how Samsung have managed it without increasing the input lag, but i will take it over VRR.
Just so people are aware, the games that don't have FPS on by default will use the Xbox One S profile to lower the resolution to achieve the 120FPS.
That means;
Considering the resolution, any TV that supports 120hz at 1080p would be fine with HDMI 2.0.
@FraserG that's nice to hear 👍🏻
Good to see these enhancements coming but....I’d much rather see 30FPS games boosted to 60. I’ve not got a 120hz display and no intention of buying one for years. Selfish yes but I suspect a lot of people are in the same boat.
Absolutely fantastic. Been having on a 144hz screen for the better part of a decade now. And have my Series X tied into a 120hz screens. They can't keep these coming fast enough.
@BlueOcean I think EA has learned the value of back catalog of games with campaigns behind them.
They have learned what MS realized long.agl: subscription services are more profitable than selling new multiplayer games.
To keep players engaged on services like GamePass, they need their back catalog running as best as possible. If MS can do that for them, for free, why hold back?
I can’t recall ever even seeing a TV that supported 120hz. Seems they’re really going after a niche crowd here. Would like to see more games get the 60fps treatment, but hard to complain about free upgrades.
@stancratcha5 They're getting more and more common, and this is a great way of future-proofing games for when the adoption rate gets higher, insuring that consumers will have a plethora of supported games to play.
But yes, I'd also like to see more 60FPS games. Maybe in the next update...
@stancratcha5 monitors, and lg c9, cx, c1, there's lot of ppl with those.
@Bmartin001 I agree. Way more people are able to experience 60fps than those with 120 fps-enabled TVs.
@stancratcha5 Sony xh90 (xh900 in U. S.) supports 120hz 👍🏻
Fantastic news! Already played most of the games but I’ll happily give them another whirl on my 120hz TV.
Despite owning a 120hz capable TV, I still agree that they should focus on 30 to 60 fps upgrades. That’s more important in my opinion and I reckon most people don’t have a 120hz TV anyway.
I've tried Battlefront 2 at 120fps - it's definitely smooth, and even despite the supposed resolution drop, it looks nice on a big 4K TV.
I wouldn't say you're missing out much if you don't have a 120hz display, but it's a nice option for those of us that do.
Though the list isn't the games I want to play this time, this is fantastic regardless. 120fps on so many great games. More of this!
@FraserG Isn't Unravel 2 off by default? The article says on. Doesn't it drop resolution?
@BlueOcean I believe you're right, it does drop resolution. Not sure why we listed it otherwise! Apologies.
@FraserG No problem and thank you for answering and correcting it. It's because Unravel Two is Xbox One X-enhanced so it uses the Xbox One version when you turn FPS boost on.
