Microsoft has today released its latest earnings report for the financial quarter ending December 31, 2020, and as expected, various areas of Xbox have enjoyed big increases compared to the same time the previous year.
Specifically, Xbox content and services revenue has grown by 40%, driven by first-party and third-party titles as well as the massive continued success of Xbox Game Pass.
This is also the first quarter in which Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sales have been factored in, resulting in a massive 86% increase in Xbox hardware revenue, even despite the console shortages.
Altogether, this results in a 51% gaming revenue increase for Microsoft year-on-year.

So why did they want users to pay $120 again?
@LiterallyDoNotCare : Presumably either on its own Xbox Live Gold is losing money, or the price hike was meant to encourage more Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions. And that would fit with this article, which says profits are "...driven by first-party and third-party titles as well as the massive continued success of Xbox Game Pass."
Xbox deserves success right now, they've been doing so many things right.
The boost in hardware sales was obviously becuase of the release of the series X/S
@101Force well. I am interested in getting the series x, but ain't paying $120 for gears and halo. The rest of their upcoming games are all sp so.
Seems to be good all round but they need to keep up momentum.
Once Covid disappears people will back out and not purchasing consoles and games as much, which has helped all console sales etc.
Increased series x and s stocks.
Some exclusive AAA big hitters.
Good PR and advertising, for example one of best looking games Hivebusters just slipped in, they should of show cased it more like Sony did Spider-Man Miles.
Xbox killing it, It's gonna get better in the next few years..
Soo what was all that talk about gamepass not being profitable.
@JayJ only thing wrong is lack of games.
@sandman89 Weird, I have no shortage of them.
@JayJ exclusive games then.
@sandman89 Funny I play Forza Horizon 4 more than any other game. I can't say there's any lack of gaming for me, and what exclusives should I care so much about? I got the Nintendo games on my Switch and they're alright, fun when I want something more cartoony/lighthearted. I also got the Sony games on my PS4 and they're okay I guess, really overrated and generally not my thing so I can't say I ever wanted to play them much.
@JayJ I don’t know but it would be nice to be blown away by some amazing first party games wouldn’t it.
@JayJ taking full advantage of series x
@sandman89 I am not complaining, and neither next gen console really has much in the way of amazing exclusives right now. By the end of the year hopefully we might have some great stuff. I know the only thing that could convince me to buy a PS5 right now is Gran Turismo 7 and who knows when that's coming out.
