It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dead Space 2 (January 25, 2011), we're looking back at the history of the beloved horror series on Xbox.
Including spin-offs, there have been four Dead Space games on Xbox in all, and all of them are included with EA Play on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Which game is your favourite? Remember, you can only pick one!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Dead Space (2008)
When an immense mining ship, the USG Ishimura, comes into contact with a mysterious alien artifact in a remote star system, its communications with Earth are mysteriously cut off. Engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to repair the Ishimura's communications array, but he arrives to find a living nightmare-the ship is a floating bloodbath, the crew unspeakably mutilated and infected by an ancient alien scourge. Clarke's repair mission becomes one of survival as he fights not just to save himself, but to return the artifact to the planet ... at any cost.
Dead Space Ignition (2010)
Dead Space 2 unlocks activated after completion of first hack and game save in Dead Space Ignition. In Dead Space Ignition you must survive the initial Necromorph outbreak on The Sprawl. The game blends a comic presentation with three unique hacking games. You’ll receive unlocks in Dead Space 2 including an exclusive suit. Can you survive the events leading up to Dead Space 2?
Dead Space 2 (2011)
Engineer Isaac Clarke returns for another blood-curdling adventure in the sequel to the critically acclaimed Dead Space™. After waking from a coma on a massive space city known as “The Sprawl”, the lone survivor of a horrific alien infection finds himself confronting a catastrophic new nightmare. Battling dementia, hunted by the government, and haunted by visions of his dead girlfriend, Isaac will do whatever it takes to save himself and dominate the gruesome onslaught. With an arsenal of tools to dismember Necromorphs and new determination, an engineer will bring the terror to space.
Dead Space 3 (2013)
Dead Space 3 brings Isaac Clarke and merciless soldier John Carver on a journey across space to discover the source of the Necromorph outbreak. Crash-landed on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis, Isaac must comb the harsh environment for raw materials and scavenged parts. He will then put his engineering skills to the ultimate test to create and customize weapons and survival tools. The ice planet holds the key to ending the Necromorph plague, but first Isaac must overcome avalanches, treacherous ice-climbs, and the violent wilderness.

The first one, obviously. It was the first introduction to this new kind of sci-fi horror game, and it was great. Later installments were basically more of the same with added features, so for me, the novelty of it had already worn off.
The first one was amazing.
First one. Second one didn't add much to it except for quality of life changes. Final boss was better on the 1st one. Those velociraptors acted like stalkers* so I am guessing that's where ND got the idea from, but the kids and babies didn't add that much and I think they removed some enemies (holy ***** fast necromorph)
Yeah Dead Space 1 is in my opinion the best game in the series. Dead Space 2 had too much action, too repetitive environments and didn't do enough to push the series forward.
Oh the first, by a mile.
I was blown away when I played it at launch and played through it several times for the 1K.
With EA Play added to Game Pass I played it again recently on my Series X to see how it is. It looks and plays perfectly all these years later. Incredible game.
@Grot agreed! It still blows a lot of new games out of the water. They can release a remastered version and it would be a fresh game for a lot of people.
I loved the first game! The second is good too but a lot less scary! The third game is cute but nothing exceptional, in my opinion
I like 3 because of its COOP feature.
They’re all great in their own ways - except Ignition - that game is just, not good, hahaha..
Extraction is also pretty good - I recommend playing it on Wii for the best experience - with component or hdmi, it’s actually pretty comparable to the PS3 version visually.
Also, the mobile game is surprisingly decent as well - try searching for it if you have Android as it’s definitely still aquirable if you look in the right places. And even though it’s simply titled “Dead Space” it is not a port and is 100% different than the original game.
Part 1, no ifs, buts, ands or maybes.
This is a dumb question. The first one without any qualifications. It is the best survival horror game after the first RE. I always say that Dead Space is the only survival horror game that knew hoe to improve and modernize the RE formula. Something that Capcom is still struggling to do. Although, both 2 and 3 are also good games.
@swagbag713 The Wii version was also surprisingly a great game. Best light gun game I ever played.
Haven't played deadspace before, Hopefully they do a remake on current gen
Hmm... While I'd say the first one is the better horror game, I think the second is superior overall. More polished and refined, better pacing, and more variety. I also think it got the balance of action and horror spot-on, better than any game since Resi 4. There was still a strong horror atmosphere and you still had to manage your resources carefully, much like the original, only this time there were some great action beats thrown into the mix which to me never detracted from the overall Survival-Horror experience. I've always likened it to Alien and Aliens.
Given how well Capcom has reinvigorated Resi over the last few years, and the resurgence of the Survival-Horror genre in general, surely there's been no better time for EA to bring back Dead Space? Be it Dead Space 4 or a reboot, I'd love to see the franchise make a comeback.
Definitelly second one. The first one was too repetetive. Second DS is 10/10 from me
First one for sure. I've always seen a bit of a parallel with the Alien/s movie franchise
The second one was also a very good game, and perhaps even the better game in many ways, but it spoiled many things too, most notably: The atmosphere by making it more action based. (Alien vs Aliens), The lore by making it more spelled out with a heavy anti-religion theme. I like both in different ways but prefer the first.
The third (Alien 3) was an above average shooter with a semi-interesting story... but was a terrible Dead Space game.
2 for its visual variety and better pacing.
Just recently bought them all in the sale on the XSX. First one definitely. Second one was ok I guess.. but the third was seriously the worst. You could just tell by how it progressed that poor old Visceral had ran out of idea's. It also had EA plastered all over it... micro transactions, crafting and heavy on the action. EA's interference ruined the whole IP.
