If you're anything like us, you probably use the YouTube app on your Xbox console fairly often, and so it's pleasing to confirm that the app has recently introduced support for displaying HDR content on supported displays.
We actually think we noticed this back in December - but we couldn't confirm it back then across every device - but now FlatPanelsHD has officially tested the Xbox One and Xbox Series X with success.
"YouTube HDR has finally arrived on Xbox. FlatpanelsHD can confirm that it works on both the Xbox One generation (confirmed on Xbox One S) and the new Xbox Series X/S generation (confirmed on Xbox Series X)."
If you're not sure what HDR actually does, it's a technique for improving the lighting and colour of videos, ultimately improving the quality. Most modern TVs can display it, and it's commonly used in games as well.
Have you noticed this as part of the YouTube app? Let us know in the comments below.

This is cool! though I will say with a tv that auto detects the Xbox and switches to game mode, it’s a hassle to watch video content and get all the settings how I like. It’s very nit-picky, but will likely prevent me using the Xbox for streaming videos very often.
@Nermannn
My TV only use game mode when playing a game. If YouTube or a 4K blu ray being watched it should revert to standard setting, nit game mode.
My tv have an Auto Game Mode so it switches between the two modes. It’s is called ALLM.

"Watch videos at their highest quality"
Erm... that should more than likely be "watch videos at the highest YouTube quality", because no matter what, YouTube videos are still compressed, so there isn't a single video available in its original format and/or quality. The best you can get, is around 90 percent.
Of course, objectively speaking, that's more than good enough for most people, but factually, it's most definitely not the highest possible quality.
The article says just update the App...
Wouldn't that happen automatically?
EDIT: I tried a video after doing an HDR search. It works.
