We've got some unfortunate news to share about Rare's upcoming IP Everwild, as according to a report from Video Games Chronicle, the game's creative director Simon Woodroffe has resigned from his position at the studio.
In response, Rare has confirmed that Woodroofe has left the company, with studio head Simon Duncan thanking him for his efforts on the project and reassuring fans that the game remains in "good hands" with the rest of the team.
“We thank Simon for all his hard work on Everwild and wish him the very best of luck for the future. The Everwild team are in good hands and passionate about building a game that will give players unforgettable experiences in a natural and magical world.”
No reason has been provided as to why the creative director reportedly decided to leave, but according to VGC, Woodroofe has actually been absent for a while after submitting his resignation earlier in October.
Our most recent look at the mysterious Everwild arrived back at the Xbox Games Showcase in July, with GM of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg later going on to state that "what Louise [O'Connor, executive producer] and the team at Rare is building with Everwild is something really unique and special."

How can the game be in good hands when they don't even know what kind of game it's going to be?
Also I wonder if the Halo Infinite incident has forced Microsoft to reconsider the leadership of all first-party game projects. It's weird hearing this after yesterday's announcement of Chris Lee leaving the project. Maybe they're being cautious as to not have a repeat of that incident again but with another game.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago they said they hadn't decided what the gameplay for this would be...?
I love the new studios Microsoft has acquired, but this paints a troubling picture of ones they already own when put alongside 343i as well.
Here's an idea Rare.... Make Banjo Threeie, Perfect Dark 2, Blast Corps 2 or even Conker 2. Stop with the living environment game thing. This seems to be the common denominator with Everwild and Halo Infinite, both appeared to be games that would be around for a while after launch....
Oh dear, I hope this isn’t a case of all these studios not having any ideas of what new games to make? The second person leaving an MS studio in what 48hrs?
@S1ayeR74 @Kefka2589 If that's indeed the case then at least they're taking measures in making sure that the games uphold a certain level of quality before revealing gameplay. I get the feeling that Microsoft has been too soft with their first-party studios up until now and I doubt that they're going to keep doing that now after the Halo Infinite incident. The last thing they want is for their games to be received poorly because the first-party exclusives are going to be the main appeal of Game Pass. I'm certain they're going to do an inspection of all their studios now and make sure that everything's good.
Which makes me think, could this be the reason why we haven't seen gameplay of most of the first-party output? I remember the Games Showcase a while back where they primarily showed cinematic trailers instead of actual gameplay. Perhaps a lot of studios are having the same issues as 343 and Rare. Either way, it's a good thing that they didn't show gameplay. Hopefully Microsoft will make sure everything goes smoothly for these projects within the next couple of years. I mean, it's not like they don't have the resources to spend on Q&A. They spent 500k hours on BC so I'm pretty sure they can assign people to inspect these studios.
Ugh just make the games we want with the IPs we love Rare.
