There's been a lot of talk over the past few months about the potential of Xbox Live going free at some point in the future, and while there's been no official sign of it happening any time soon, trusted industry insider Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat appears to be hinting it's still very much a possibility.
Asked about this topic on Twitter, Grubb gave the following response:
Grubb is referring here to various delays that have reportedly affected the reveal of the Xbox Series S and X to date, along with more Xbox Game Pass news that he originally suggested would be announced back in August.
Previously, Grubb has commented multiple times on this rumour, even definitively stating that "Xbox Live Gold is going away and playing online multiplayer will be free," so let's hope it all eventually comes to fruition!
Do you think free Xbox Live multiplayer is still a possibility? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Itβs all about the perfect timing. ππ π
MS needs to at least relax the rules on f2p games soon, because they are the only ones blocking f2p from truly being f2p.
They want every advantage they can have at Series launch date.
It seems to be obvious that Microsoft is going with free Xbox Live. PC gamers donβt have to pay for online play, so why should we on Xbox? And we know Microsoft is bringing everything into one ecosystem.
Not to mention, it would completely make Sony & Nintendo look foolish in the aftermath. Why anyone would give Nintendo any money for their horrific online service is beyond me, regardless.
@Xiovanni That's very true, but Microsoft did say at the time that there are "no changes being made to the experience of the service or Xbox Live Gold."
We'll have to wait and see...
It doesn't affect me either way, but it would be a good perk of being an Xbox fan if it came true.
