THQ Nordic announced today as part of the Embracer Group Q1 Report Webcast Presentation that SpongeBob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated has got off to a fantastic start since its release in June, notching up over one million sales in just under two months.
The success of the game reportedly "exceeded management expectations," leading to THQ Nordic's best quarter to date. In contrast, the recent release of Desperados III was classed as a more "narrow niche," expected to generate commercial performance over the long term.
It's no surprise to hear that the SpongeBob remake has done so well, given the significant nostalgia for the original title that released back in 2003. THQ Nordic recently put out another remake of a classic title - 2005's Destroy All Humans - and while sales figures haven't been released for that game yet, the publisher again says that it has so far exceeded management expectations.

I picked it up for the switch, Part of me wishes i got it for Xbox because i heard that's the best version..
I will be picking this one up for Xbox since the Nintendo Switch port seems iffy. I definitely want the best experience possible out of this gem I missed out on the first time around.

These studio acquisitions are really working out for THQ Nordic.
I also just read they bought the makers of Metro. I’m both, shocked that studio was up for grabs and Microsoft didn’t snatch it. I feel Metro would had been a perfect fit for Microsoft.

@Tharsman THQ Nordic are going in hard. Crucially on devs mainly doing single player titles.
I just hope they dont turn into another Zenimax and let the Devs keep their creative freedom. 4a games are awesome and Metro series was so well crafted.
@Jaxx420 I don’t think they even can turn themselves into a zenimax, at least not until they get a giant GTA or Fortnte level hit (and is they keep shooting, someday they may get there.)
What I see them is becoming more of like the biggest B-Game house out there, and that is great in my book, most the games I end up playing through and enjoying these days are precisely these second tier single player experiences, they are a bucketloads of fun.
Got to add, though, the acquisition was not actually done by THQ, but by THQ parent company, so there might be a distinction there. Maybe like comparing Activision to Blizzard but at a smaller scale?
@Tharsman With you on that. Would love a next gen Metro.
