Xbox boss Phil Spencer appeared on the 'Animal Talking' show last night, and among the many topics that were discussed during the episode was the huge success of Xbox Game Pass.
As transcribed by Stevivor (the full video isn't currently available to watch on demand), Spencer reportedly teased some "strong" and "really great" things coming to the service soon:
"I’d say the positive for us, both through the May showcase and the summer and the July showcase, has been the rise of importance for us in Game Pass.
Our investment in Game Pass and that portfolio continues to be strong. We’ve got some more… really great, strong, announcements to come about things… coming to Game Pass."
This follows a recent hint from industry insider Jeff Grubb, who suggested that Microsoft will unveil "yet another big reason to get Game Pass in the next 2-3 weeks," and that it won't be any specific game. It remains to be seen what Microsoft has in store, but hopefully it won't be too long until we find out.
What do you think Phil Spencer is alluding to here? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.

Microsoft need a win. It’s been a series of fumbles at the moment.
Excited to find out what these announcements are!
just do it and stop talking....
Well, to be honest, I couldn't care less about Game Pass, even if I tried, so those would have to be some pretty stellar announcements for them to make me even remotely interested.
I'd much rather simply keep my Games with Gold and my own games to play, whenever and wherever I want to, thank you.
can you really trust what Phil says
I'm hoping for xCloud via the browser, similar to Stadia, but I don't know if that's really "Game Pass" related but to for any specific game? Guess we'll see.
@ThanosReXXX I'm one of the lucky ones that never buy games, as there is always something there for me.
Well I got 'first' 2 Wolfenstein digital for £6, which I didn't mind paying! But 1 disc game a year, eg RDR2)
I love Game Pass. Its actually brought me to prefer my xbox over my ps4.
@Porridge2215 Well, to each their own, of course, and it's good for the people that DO enjoy the service, but it's just not for me. I simply don't have enough time to spend on games that will only be playable for a set amount of time.
I am excited to hear what this is. Game Pass is already awesome, so anything else they do is just icing on the cake at this point. 👍🏻
@ThanosReXXX I totally get that. what I've done in the past 2 years is once I like a game, I will only play that game until the very end. So this is good for game pass games, but the other thing is I just getting mixed up between the plot to various games as well is is messing up the controls. I'm getting too old lol.
It's the reason why I haven't really got into RDR2 yet too
I am getting giddy with anticipation!
Finger crossed Microsoft finally convinced Square Enix to pull their finger out and get FFXIV released on the Xbox One
In Phil we trust..
@ThanosReXXX if their first party portfolio increases substantially may be beneficial to you and me as they never get removed.
I am in the same camp as you, but if the first party releases start to stack may be worth it in the long run.
I'd love to see Phil go one interview or Livestream without saying games pass.
@Bowser89 I'm slowly starting to lean in that direction as well.
@HollowSpectre why on earth? Even if you didn’t care about the service, it a core pillar of the Microsoft gaming division. And once xCloud is officially out, anyone playing a steaming game is effectively an Xbox gamer, even if they don’t own a physical console.
@Nerdfather1 Also my ps4 is so loud all the time. My xbox one s is always silent. And the ui is snappier. And prefer the ui overall.
GamePass is great and all, and if this were a normal year continuing X1X, more GP announcements would be pretty cool ammo in the console war.
But in a console launch year where you've just delayed your major launch title past launch.....hearing about more temporary time limited content in the subscription service that already runs on the X1 you already have.....that's not much of a marketing incentive to go buy the new console, is it? They really ought to be building hype for XSeX, but in a lot of ways this feels like it's just a normal (good) X1X year.
If they hadn't already discontinued X1X, I doubt they'd be trying to launch a console at all. They're not even pretending they're interested in their own console launch anymore. They're selling it more as an X1X replacement model than as a "new generation" at this point. Which is fine....I'm even happy about that, and it's sort of how I expected X1X to "X2X" to go before they started hyping the new hardware, but it's kind of depressing how the air has deflated out of the balloon fairly quickly. Their big announcements are now GamePass additions again, not new hardware or new game related. If X1X were still available, guaranteed, that's what they'd be pushing now.
@Tharsman It was called a joke calm down.
Persona 5 right to Game Pass. i truly think i would faint.
i know, i know....pout
@HollowSpectre can’t expect a comment like that to be seen as a joke when too many people complain about GamePass! Use a /s, or a silly emoji 🙃 or something!
This place just been way too full of “ms is destroying gaming with this game pass thing... at least Sony has the decency of sucking at PSNow to preserve true gaming...” (that’s a joke too, although rooted on stuff I seen in other sites 🙃.)
@Tharsman Fair enough! 😁
Given Epic has joined the battle against Apple's policies that prevents xCloud from coming to iOS, maybe the big Game Pass news is Fortnite related?
Sorry Phil, not getting hyped this time. Fool me once.
@Porridge2215 "I'm getting too old"
Yeah, I know that feeling, all to well. Been on this Earth for half a century now...
@Jaxx420 Mind you, I'm still curious as to what they're up to, so I'm open to being pleasantly surprised, as long as it's not just the regular old Game Pass that we already know, because that doesn't interest me at all.
@Thretosix Yeah, I'm also usually always late with both games and even with adopting systems. I'm almost never a release day buyer, save for a handful of exceptions over the years, so I can relate to that.
@NEStalgia Couldnt agree more. Nice to see a balanced view!
Next generation I've decided to only get one console, and the value of GamePass has me strongly leading towards an Xbox Series X. PlayStation may have better first party games in their portfolio, but not having to buy a 60 dollar game every few months is huge. I hope GamePass continues to grow, because I'm pretty close to going all in!
@RadioHedgeFund Absolutely mate. It's coming though, I can feel it haha Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but at some point, it'll come
Phil needs to stop hyping things up now and just let the actual news doing the talking.
Told us we were going to get blown away by Halo, looked dated graphically and ended up delayed.
Keeps saying about the most powerful console, not one game to showcase this point.
Phil, we love you man, but stay silent until you have actual news to announce...
@Bowser89 Same here, the console, services, UI, controller... all seem better.
@NEStalgia We'll see a hype boost near launch regarding (2021) games but, as you said, Halo Infinite doesn't need to be "the" game and, ironically, they delayed it. I prefer that because another broken game launch with weekly 50 GB updates wouldn't be the best start for Series X, not to mention the harsh reviews. Better start with free remasters, backwards compatible games with HDR for the first time and the third-party heavyweights and something like The Medium, Gears Tactics, Scorn or whatever is ready. That's better than a beta of Halo Infinite.
The funny thing is that it's looking like a soft generation start not just for Microsoft that also has Game Pass, xCloud and Play Anywhere but for Sony that has PS5 and no Vita 2 or anything.
@BlueOcean What generation? I see a power boosted X1X competing against DLC...both flailing helplessly against a WiiU game. Where is this generation launch you speak of?
@blinx01 this! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@LocalPenguin it seems like a dead cert because it would also mean you could play it via xCloud as well which would be a huge win for Square.
