Update: Microsoft has revealed a couple more games that will leave Xbox Game Pass in the near future, and they're both major titles. NBA 2K20 will leave on September 1st, and Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 will be removed a week later on September 7th.
If you want to pick these up permanently before they're removed, keep in mind that Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently 55% off as part of the Xbox Summer Sale for the next few days.
We've added these to the table below.
Original story: Five more games will be removed from Xbox Game Pass in August, including some major titles such as Metro: Last Light Redux and Metal Gear Solid HD Edition: 2 & 3.
As always, these games are now available to purchase from at least 20% off for Xbox Game Pass members, and you can also pick up Metal Gear Solid at 50% off as part of the Xbox Summer Sale.
Date | Game | Platform |
---|---|---|
Aug 31 | Creature in the Well | Xbox One, PC |

Damn, bit gutted about Metal Gear, but I'll no doubt just buy it.
Never good news when games leave, luckily I own Metal Gear 2 & 3 HD physically and have played the Metro game...
I might play some more Giana Sisters however before it leaves... Quite enjoyed what I have played before..
This, right here, is why I haven't bitten into Game Pass yet.
@AlexSora89 Game Pass is no substitute for buying digital, some games go and some come and you can try hundreds games. It's still the best value in gaming. I mean, you can't ask for owning everything for that price. First-party games stay, though.
This basically means buy Metal Gear Solid HD Edition: 2 & 3/Metro: Last Light Redux now that they're cheaper! I just did. @FraserG Thanks for the heads-up.
I think Game Pass is great, I was unsure beforehand I must admit..
Only issue I have is trying to organise what to play, with such choice it's easy to play just some of the many game's but not actually finish them...
As for games leaving, as long as I have some notice in advance and if I determined to play the game enough, I find the time to do so...
Obviously that's not ideal, but for the price it's fantastic value...
I'm finding it's best to concentrate on just a couple of titles before moving on...
Is metal gear one X enhanced? Duno if it's worth a quadruple dip š¤
Nothing I was super interested in playing. I am wondering what games might be added to replace them!
Luckily the only one Iām interested in is Giana Sisters so Iāll be dipping into that. Iāve never completed Creature in the Well but I doubt I will be jumping back into that ( stuck at a boss fight š).
MGS 2 & 3 were my favorite games on the PS2, Definitely worth a buy if you hadn't played them yet..
Updated! Two more have been revealed - NBA 2K20 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
So glad the first party games stay and are released on game pass day one.
Thatās the value for me, right there.
Wow, Red Dead didn't last long.
Yeah it's not good at all that RDR2 is leaving so soon. These games should be up on Game Pass for at least a year.
As long as the first party games stay on there, I am šš».
I own NBA 2k20, but Red Dead Redemption leaving I was not expecting. That is one game that I want to find time to play. Will try to buy it, if it gets below 20 pounds at some point
I like Game Pass, but I do find I'm kinda scared to start a big 3rd party game unless it has just come to the service. Short games and games that can be dipped in and out of whenever are fine, but I don't want to sink 10 hours into a 20+ hour game and find it has gone. I don't have the free time I used to, so can't just marathon to finish a game when its removal is announced. Still a great value service though, especially at the crazy prices you can often get it for by buying codes online (I think I got something like 3 years at under Ā£4/month for Ultimate).
@Gipsons Same hear, own NBA 2K20 but still not got around to playing Red Dead 2, not enough time to get started now before it leaves...
Wow I cant believe Red dead is already leaving.. This is why i will stick with physical games next gen..
@Medic_Alert up to 20% is not a deep discount. All the big discounts come from XBL Gold.
I already owned RDR2 in disk form (easy to find a cheap copy) but I was kinda looking forward for the flexibility of not having pull the disk out.
Minor rant: I think it can be easy to miss that a game is leaving if someone is sunk on some other games, and not visiting the GamePass app. The rant here is that a sale pops up, like right now, and games say āincluded in game passā and someone might pass on the sale because they think they can just play it for free for months to come.
Kinda wish the store noted the expiration date like āinclude in game pass until...ā
If it wasnāt for these articles, I would not realize, since I been downloading a games in batches and playing through them.
@Gipsons oh man, finding time to play red dead is a talk order. I finished it on game pass, but itās a commitment and I havenāt even touched the multiplayer. I feel bad for anyone thatās only 20 hours into it and accessing through game pass. My advice to them would be to buy it and take your time.
I didn't know NBA 2K20 was on gamepass, and as a coincidence I just bought it yesterday on a flash sale for less than 4 dollars (!!).
As for the games that come and go... at first, I was really annoyed by this. I was like : "Ah ! Told you the gamepass was not a cool offer ! See ? The games won't stay !"
BUT I realise now that the gamepass HAS TO, in a way, operate a turnover. So, I think when you subscribe to the service, you juste have to organize your gameplays sessions. And maybe go to the third-party games first.
@Medic_Alert I Will definitely get it sooner or later.
Probably this is like a push to buy RDR 2.
I assume that there Will be People buying it before it leave game pass.
@Gipsons 'Probably this is like a push to buy RDR 2.' Yep. This all day.
I love Game Pass, but I really see this as Microsoft's long game of sales bumps for external studios...
@AlexSora89 it's no different then renting games in the old days. You don't own them and have to return them but you sure get to play a crap ton of games this way. Question to game pass veterans, do they ever take down the first party titles or are they all there forever?
@Gipsons You should buy it even at 60 bucks, it is easily THE best game I ever played, and I played a ton of games. The story is so good, way more better than a mile than any other movie and game.
@minicar10 I Will definitely get the game
