The new patch notes for Apex Legends' Old Way Event are live, and in a blog on the EA website, it's been noted that Solos hasn't been added to the game for a selection of reasons. Primarily, Respawn says the limited-time mode "negatively impacted the game" when added last year.
The statement indicates that Solos had a negative effect on player retention following its introduction back in August 2019, and some Legend abilities became redundant after Solos was added due to being developed for use in teamplay. Respawn suggests these "are just some of the reasons" Solos hasn't been added in the game's most recent update, but also says it's "still exploring ways to allow a Solo experience."
However, the Old Way Event update sees Duos added permanently to the game instead, with Respawn noting that its limited-time introduction previously had "a positive effect on the game's health in regards to queue times and gameplay systems in addition to reinforcing teamplay". You can see a full rundown of the latest patch notes over at the EA site.
What do you think of the decision to skip over Solos in Apex for now? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

Just like with “live service” games, I am not interested in these battle royale games much. And this is one of the reasons. If you play solo in games like these, you tend to get smoked & it just isn’t as fun of an experience.
Not to mention, Apex Legends has no campaign to speak of. I hear it is quite good, for the type of game it is, but I won’t be playing this.
I don’t really want duos, but whatever. Apex is great as trios. It’s not hard to see how solos would ruin the game in a lot of fundamental ways.
There are plenty of other multiplayer/BR games for people that want solos. Not every game can be all things to all people.
