Starfield is an enormous RPG that's stuffed to the intergalactic gills full of planets to explore, enemy camps to raid, huge spaceships to steal and magic powers to discover and wield. There's plenty to be getting on with, is what we're trying to say, and there's also lots of very cool little references and missions thrown into this stellar mix for players to discover on their travels across the cosmos.

We're well into our first run through New Game Plus now, with tons left to discover, but we've decided now is the time to put together this list of the ten coolest things we've seen so far on our journey. Of course, we'd also like to know the best things you've come across on your voyages thus far so, once you're done reading through our list, make sure to drop your recs in the comments!

[Note: There are minor spoilers for a late game location in this guide, so be careful if you don't want any surprises spoiled!]

Starfield: The 10 Coolest Things We've Found So Far

The Apollo Landing Site

This is a great little easter egg in the game and a nice way to pay tribute to the brave astronauts who helmed the Apollo 11 lunar mission.

To visit the site, you'll first need to head to The Lodge and find the book "Sir Livingstone's Second Journal". on a table in Khatri's room upstairs. Once you've read the book, the location of the site will be added to the Moon.

London/The Shard

Another cool Moon-based place to visit, this time we're off to London innit. To mark the location of the city on your Moon map you're gonna need to find a copy of Oliver Twist and read it. Not all of it, haha, just open it in your inventory.

Like all books in the game, Oliver Twist will show up randomly all over the place, but you can find a guaranteed copy at Sinclair's Books in Akila City. Just head in and speak to Sinclair to browse their wares and nab it.

The Mars Opportunity Rover

Starfield: The 10 Coolest Things We've Found So Far

Another reference to humanity's first steps into the cosmos, you can find the Mars Opportunity Rover via a late game quest that gives you its coordinates.

To mark your route to the Rover on Mars, you'll need to interact with the Mars Rover exhibit in the NASA museum late in the game, during a main campaign quest.

The Mantis Quest

We've been through the entire game and this side mission is still one of the highlights. Not only is it a cool superhero story, but you get some very sweet rewards in the form of a spaceship and awesome armour as a reward. Make sure not to skip this one as it becomes available very early in the game. Check out our Mantis quest guide for steps on how to activate it!

Ulfric Stormcloak Returns

Starfield: The 10 Coolest Things We've Found So Far

OK, so it's not the actual character of Ulfric, that would almost be too awesome, but the Skyrim character's voice actor returns in Starfield as Evgeny Rokov in the Crimson Fleet factions questline. So make sure to keep an eye, or should we say ear, out for that legendarily gruff line delivery that's so instantly recognisable.

Plushies

We're suckers for a good soft toy, and Starfield has lots of very cool ones hidden all around its world for you to collect. Heck, they even make a cool noise when you first pick them up. We particularly enjoy sticking them in all in the cockpit of our ship as we collect them so that it looks like we're crazy hoarders.

The Pyramids of Giza

And we're back to exploring real world locations now with the pyramids. Again you'll need to read a book to add the location to your map, and this time it's "The Ancient Civilization of Egypt", which can also be found at the Akila bookstore where we nabbed Oliver Twist.

The Empire State Building

A final real world location to go and ponder at, this New York icon will be added to your map by reading the book "Our Lost Heritage", which you can find at MAST HQ in the President's Office. Head to Central Command to find the room you're after.

Tribute To John Williams

He's one of the all time great composers, and he's provided the soundtracks to so many of our favourite sci-fi experiences. Yep, John Williams is the man behind the iconic music from the likes of Star Wars and E.T, so it seems only fitting he gets a little shoutout here. We found this one via the Reddit post linked below, so search out posters for the Sol Symphony Orchestra, and you'll find that the conductor is one William Johns. Nice.

This isn't the only connection to the man either, as you'll find lots of other references to a certain movie franchise within the game. We'll leave you to guess which one.

Alex Hay's Note

As you enter The Eye space station, you'll find a note from Alex Hay on a table to the right side of the entrance. Alex was a huge Bethesda fan who sadly passed away from lung cancer at the age of 35. The letter is a touching tribute from Alex, and it's great to see that his love for the devs and their games has been forever immortalised in Starfield.
