@Dpishere: Yeah, I just added my data to my profile, too. To add somebody to 3DS you have to go to Friend List and type the 3DS code.
The only issue I had with Okami was that the visual presentation sometimes confused me to the point I got dizzy, but as you said, it was intuitive using the Wii Remote. It reminds me of Cursed Mountain (Wii), where you had to move the Wii Remote and nunchuk in a certain way to perform "fatalities" against the ghosts. I enjoyed that, too, and I think @BAMozzy would enjoy it, too, although perhaps it's too dated for him . The Wii Remote pointer was also great in Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles and Metroid Prime 3. I had a lot of fun with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, too. What I didn't like at all was when it was used in a weird, mandatory and pointless way, like in Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Donkey Kong Country Returns, etc. You could not use buttons instead and the shaking was totally out of place. I remember how frustrating were some levels because of combining buttons and motions, I was hoping Wii era to end soon.
@BAMozzy: I still don't consider those games belonging to the same genre. Of course, they share elements, as I said earlier. Ocarina of Time included platforming sections just one year after Super Mario 64 was released. And, yes, I know Ubisoft obsession with climbing things. But yes, you have a point. And what is BF?
@VanillaLake Oh man if there was one game that absolutely didn't need motion controls I would have to say that Donkey Kong Country Returns is that game. Time trials were made especially difficult because of them though admittedly they did work most of the time but when you are trying to speed through a level there is little to no room for mistakes. That said I love the game but definitely prefer Tropical Freeze's standard controls.
@VanillaLake: Okami wasn't a game I enjoyed but certainly appreciated its artstyle at the time and its not because its too old - maybe because I am though.
Currently I have an XB360, PS3, XB1 and PS4 all set up. I moved a few years ago and either scrapped or donated all my 'old' consoles, computers and games for 'space' reasons. My son ended up with my N64 and games. I kept my original Xbox and a big box of games although that's buried in a cupboard now.
Like I said, those games may not belong to 'platforming' now but have evolved from the 'platforming' genre. As you point out, Zelda: Ocarina of Time has 'platforming' elements to it too and came out 2 years after - probably built on the same engine as SM64 and had the same 'designers'. Birds are assumed to have evolved from lizards and they appear to have very little in common today. Point is just because something doesn't fall in to the same genre/classification now, doesn't mean that it can't have 'evolved' from it. Banjo Kazooie had more focus on its platforming where as Zelda put more focus on its story and minimised its platforming roots. It also added other elements too in keeping with its origins. It may be hard to see what Assassins Creed has in common with SM64 now because of all the other things that have been mixed into it as well. Game genres tend to be 'born' by mixing 1 genre with another. 3D maze games added shooting and gave us the FPS for example - that's basically what Wolfenstein and Doom did. Talking of FPS games, BF (in this case) was referring to Battlefield - although Battlefront would also fit.
After 40 years of gaming, I have seen how games have changed, evolved and/or merged to become something 'new'. Destiny has taken elements from a number of genres - including Platforming - and built something that is not quite a FPS, not quite an MMO, not quite an RPG etc. The Division is classed as an RPG because that's its 'dominant' genre but also has a secondary 3rd Person cover shooter element too. Uncharted is an action/adventure yet has 3rd person cover shooter combat mechanics, platfotming elements to it as well. The last Tomb Raider added some RPG elements to the mix as well. Games tend to be classified by the 'dominant' element but that doesn't mean that they can't or don't have elements from other genres. Its this mixing that has led to the evolution of games - that and technology.

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@BAMozzy: Yes, I agree in that the dominant element should be used as the genre definition, as most of the games share a lot of elements and clearly inspire each other. I guess you haven't played Cursed Mountain as you didn't have the Wii and have you got Resident Evil 0 & 1 remakes?
@Dpishere: I have to say I hated Donkey Kong Country Returns; not that I don't like Retro Studios, I loved Metroid Prime Trilogy and Tropical Freeze. Do you remember that Super Mario Galaxy (1 or 2, I don't remember now) level where you have to wall jump and shake the Wii Remote according to the platforms around and Mario... I was willing to write Nintendo about those stupid modern ideas of theirs.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!
@VanillaLake: I had Wii - But it rarely got used - the occassional 'family' games with Wii Sports, Mario Kart. My youngest used it more as the games in general were suited to his age (Super Mario Galaxy 1,2, SM Bros Deluxe, Sonic Unleashed...) although I did enjoy Super Monkey Boy Deluxe and played some of the games predominantly bought for my youngest. As soon as Kinect came out (made dancing games SO much better), my daughters moved away (so stopped 'family/party' gaming and requiring basic controls - they couldn't cope with an XB/PS controller) and my son didn't want 'cartoon' games (he beat SM64 at 3 - over 100 stars too), the Wii became a dust collector so I got rid of it. I didn't play Cursed Mountain and haven't played any RE remake - mainly because I played them first time round and don't hold up to modern games. Knowing what to expect also takes the edge and tension away. Dead Space is a far better 'game' and the Evil Within is a much more modern RE game and probably 'better'. RE has the nostalgia and memory but its dated mechanics and predictable too. Its not going to make you jump when you are waiting for the dogs to hump through the window...
@BAMozzy: Resident Evil Remake is probably my favourite survival horror game. Any of these games don't scare as much when you have already played them, but still can be thrilling and scary, at least for me. I really feel them. Besides, I love this series huge background and became a fan. Same for Project Zero/Fatal Frame, although they are very different. Actually, what is certain is that Project Zero is unique in the gaming universe.
@Dpishere: I don't like Japanese anything, but Okami is truly something special. Did you play the sequel on the DS? It looked weird and I never got around to it.
Okami truly deserves a wonderful sequel
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: Actually yes I did and it is ALMOST as good though much of the game is going through the same areas as in Okami but that doesn't change the fact that it is just a well made game, and one of the best looking ones on DS too. I definitely recommend it if you are a fan of Okami.
@VanillaLake: Yeah I didn't have too many problems with the flip switch levels in the Galaxy games myself but I also didn't mind that they were motion controlled either. It just depends on the game for me because Skyward Sword just wouldn't be the same without the one to one sword motions but platformers just don't need motion controls in my opinion, it just feels like they put them in there just to make use of the tech. I am kinda glad the Wii era is over since I have always been a traditional gamer at heart.
@VanillaLake: Its very traditional and doesn't look that bad - Last gen quality visuals and game-play. It reminds me a lot of Ratchet and Clank on the PS3 - certainly better looking than a LOT of 'indie' games available. Just thought that if you like 3D platforming and wanted news on a 'new' 'old-school' 3D platformer, this could be it.
