Developed by Arzest with the assistance of Sonic Team, it will be released later this year. Arzest was founded by Naoto Ohshima, the designer of Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Eggman. Ohshima is creating an antagonist that will make his debut. The producer is Takashi Iizuka, who designed Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles and produced many games, including Sonic Frontiers. The composer is Jun Senoue, who worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II and Team Sonic Racing. Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania) has also contributed to the soundtrack.
The new 2D platform game will be available for Xbox One, Series S|X, Windows, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch later this year and will include a multiplayer mode.
Seems like a cool game. I may have preferred if they kept supporting Origins by adding Spinball, Sonic 3D and the Master System games although they may do both.
I will definitely check the game. Hopefully, it will be crossbuy between this and last gen like Origins and Frontiers.
@belmont Perhaps they will release another collection with emulated games and the spin-off games including the rare Knuckles' Chaotix but yes, please, the Master System instead of the Game Gear versions. I think that the Xbox version of Sonic Superstars will be cross-buy because of what you said.
@Banjo- Well a package with Sonic Spinball (both 8 and 16 bit), Sonic 3D, Knuckles' Chaotix and the Master System versions completes a real "Origins" game. As for the Master System ports to be honest only Sonic 2 suffers a lot from the zooming on thing, but one could argue that the games are more challenging with more memorization required and the graphics are slightly better. Still, I prefer the Master System versions.
@belmont I also prefer the Master System version when available. Sonic Superstars will cost €60 if it costs $60 in USA. It's not official yet but I'm 99% sure.
Have you read this bit of the article you linked?
Some might have believed that initial trailer was for a free-to-play game
