I’m about to purchase a Series X. I see many different model numbers on various sites. Is there a good reason to go with the newest model # available or is there a known best one? Example RRT-00059 is one of the most recent ones I’ve found. I like buying from Best Buy. Their Forza bundle is RRT-00051. Probably thinking too hard about this but it’s a big purchase and your input is appreciated. Happy gaming
@RingRacer007 I've had mine since Day 1 and its had NO issues and I haven't heard anything about any 'known' issues or reason to be concerned.
Its not like the 360 days where you could be at risk from RROD until they revised their build. If anything, as we saw with the OG XB1 and PS5, its perhaps 'over-engineered' at the start to ensure it launches and doesn't develop any major issues. The XB1 VCR design meant that cooling was 'easy' - especially with an external Power brick. The PS5 has 'reduced' the size of its cooling but without any significant increase in running temps.
Point is, I don't think you'll have any 'issues' with whichever 'model' you decide to go for and if you are buying new from a reputable seller, you should have some warranty for peace of mind too.
I personally wouldn't worry about model number.
Enjoy your new Console and Gaming...

@BAMozzy Thanks for the input. I figured I was overthinking it. The next question i would have is there really much benefit to paying up for internal storage or external sufficient. I see internal is limited to 2TB expansion but I’ve seen larger external. Internal is far more expensive naturally.
@RingRacer007 You can use USB storage - HDD's and SSD's BUT that is just for Storage or playing games via Backwards Compatibility.
If you want to play Series X versions of games, you need to consider 'internal' Storage and/or the SSD expansion Cards as these have the same Bandwidth for Data transfer as the internal storage to 'run' games from. The Expansion SSD slot is the 'same' as internal storage.
It really depends on you as you could use a 8TB HDD connected to your Series X to increase your storage - however, you would need to move 'Current Gen' games to the internal Storage to actually play them but all your old Xbox games (XB1 and older games) will run from the HDD.
I have a 5TB HDD connected to my Series X - it had ALL my installed XB1 games on it so was easy to just plug it into my Series X and be immediately playable. However, I had to move games like Gears 5, FH4 etc to my 'internal' SSD to play the Series X updated versions of these. I have subsequently purchased both a 1TB and 2TB Expansion Cards so that as I accumulate 'more' Series X games, I have ample Storage - they are also 'Plug and Play', so can easily be swapped out - much like swapping Carts or Memory Cards (if you are old enough to remember those).
I will probably end up with 'internal' for games I want to be ALWAYS available and swap Expansions as required as its much quicker than moving games from USB storage or redownloading and reinstalling. That's 'time' I would rather spend playing and it takes a few seconds or so to swap an Expansion card and be playing the games installed on it.
There is no 'right/wrong' answer here - it depends on whether you can cope with the 'limited' internal Storage, want to keep 'older' games playable (which a USB HDD is 'adequate' for or an SSD would offer some benefits but won't play Series X versions) or want to have an expanded 'internal' storage to play Current gen games. You can have as many Cards as you want - buy 5x 2TB cards and you have over 10TB's worth of 'internal' storage and just swap them (like swapping Carts) to play the games on each Card...
Hope that helps...

@BAMozzy Honestly wasn’t thinking about swapping cards. Totally forgot about that from back in the day. Very helpful. Thanks Now to find a good deal on some storage!
@RingRacer007 Swapping Expansion Cards is a way to increase your 'internal' Storage as and when required. You can buy Cards if you find you need to expand your Storage - but with both a 1TB card on top of the 'internal', you may find that's 'enough' for the amount of Games you want to keep available - deleting or 'moving' games to a USB Storage if you have finished (or not sure if you'll return) to play them.
With Game Pass Games, especially those that you don't 'buy' or intend to buy, you could save space by playing via Cloud and/or deleting when they leave GP or you finish them as they aren't 'your' games and aren't playable when they leave unless you purchase.
As your own collection grows, you can just add more Storage and swap cards instead of having to redownload, reinstall or move from USB storage to play...
Black Friday is coming up too!! LOL
