Topic: Death ☠️ of Xbox is Misguided or Delusional - Why Xbox is Entering a Bigger Phase

Not a day goes by without a post on social media about how Xbox is dead. I have seen this before with the Nintendo Wii U when time and time again, people said Nintendo was Ninten - doomed!

Let’s be straight about this all - Xbox as a console isn’t doing well, that’s as obvious as it gets. But then as an ecosystem, more people are playing Xbox games than ever before.

I totally understand why some don’t like Xbox games going to PlayStation but I honestly don’t think that is an issue or a cause for concern. After the Xbox One, it was always going to be a long way back and so it has proved to be.

I see the next console as being there simply for being able to have the very best Xbox experience. It will be for the massive Xbox fans who want the hardware and maybe it will sell , say 60 million in its lifetime.

But the money will come from cloud gaming , games on other systems and being able to play Xbox anywhere and everywhere.

Saying that Xbox is dead or doomed is just missing a huge point, and a I mean a huge point. Xbox is growing gaming wise. It is a behemoth that is giving gamers more ways to play, more places to play and more freedom to play.

It won’t be to everyone’s taste, but Xbox isn’t dying. It’s just taking a different path and it’s a path that means I will be playing Xbox for many more years to come!

If we're having the discussion. Let's be realisitc Cloud Gaming is a huge failure that nobody uses or wants. It's a total waste and needs to be ditched and ridiculed.Saying that the Series X has undone any of the bad faith from the One era is also pretty unlikey seeng as how the stated goal was 0 games for the first 2 years.

Jumping ship to Sony also will improve shot term profit and cause the ong term profit to crater since there wont be any reason to upgrade to the 10th generation.

@MjJmediablogger Well said. Xbox is, actually, on pole position now, with the most studios, the most platforms, the most premium subscribers, the most active users... The console wars is what is dead, but some people are stuck on it, especially the most fervid PS fans. However, Sony is following Microsoft's steps because PS5 exclusives don't sell very much. Nintendo will do their thing, but if it stops working, they'll go to other platforms, too.

I've never understood the console wars and how can some fans be as obsessive as being on websites they hate just to bitch about what they consider the enemy of their lives: Xbox. I liked Sega a lot when I was a kid and I was a Nintendo fan.

people mean that Xbox as a strong console brand is dead, not as a gaming service if that makes sense.

MjJmediablogger

Absolutely @nomither6 They will still make hardware but it will be very niche but as a gaming service, the service has endless possibilities

@VoidPunk "Cloud Gaming is a huge failure". Wrong. It is just another optional way to play games.

Fanboys says so. Even if all xbox games goes to ps5, xbox still has: smart delivery, free cloud save, quick resume, gamepass and no region lock. But i agree: seems like MS wants more PC xbox gamers then xbox series gamers. The console seems not a prio.

Cloud gaming isn’t a failure. It’s getting better all the time. It has flaws but it will become one of the main ways to play, whether people want to like that or not.

Xbox is leading the field but needs to be careful not to become complacent.

Defending Xbox's last ~decade is truly delusional.

It’s not about defending them. It’s about where they are headed. And it’s not into death. Far from it.

It’s not dead as if it’s going out of business but it’s 3rd out of 3 by a country mile.

Cloud is a symptom of a larger issue I.e. ignoring consumer demand and adding features to a subpar product instead improving the overall quality.

Sega didn't "die" either, but ask anyone who was a die-hard Sega Console supporter how they felt when Sega became a publisher and you'll get a good idea why there are so many negative comments on social media.

I only bring this up because I think Xbox is in a good position right now. Probably the best it's been in a long time. But it cost them exclusives, relevancy, gamer trust, developer trust, every market outside the US, the Xbox brand, and a giant 70 billion dollar hole in their wallet.
Gamers have a right to feel worried, especially after staying loyal in the face of broken promise after broken promise. At this point it's starting to feel a lot like being in an abusive relationship where we are gaslit all the time.

"Don't worry! This is our biggest year yet!
-Phil Spencer every year.

P.S. I don't hate Xbox. I've got a personal list of things they can do to make me come around, and I have no problem waiting to see if they do.

For me the key thing will be the inevitable native Xbox handheld.
I play Xbox via my Logitech G Cloud all the time but a native handheld at a good price would be a day one buy for me and would be a wise move for Xbox.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a PS5 slim today, a steal at £334. Will finally get to play Last of Us, God of War, Spiderman, etc etc. It'll be sods law these all come to Xbox now, though I somehow doubt it!

My Series X is going nowhere though!

@Dimey you could have played those games on PS4. It would've been cheaper too.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

I'm currently playing Faith The Unholy Trinity, Dead Space( remake) and Dead Rising (2006).

@MsJubilee yes maybe, but I'm a grown up who can afford not to need to buy a second hand 11 year old games console

Xbox dying as console and going to cloud. But Game Pass will live as service. You may call it "a different path".

GOIDA!
