I am wondering what did Xboxers play before Xbox existed. Xbox was released in 2001-2002 so, in case you are in your twenties or thirties, Xbox was released when you were a kid/teenager. What did you play before that time?
Second question: Was Xbox your first Xbox console?
My first Xbox console is Xbox One and I used to be a Nintendo boy since the SNES was released.
It went in cycles for me but from the time I started gaming in the NES era until I bought an Xbox in 2004, it was a healthy mix of Sega and Nintendo (preferred Sega but loved plenty of games from Nintendo). With the exception of the Master System, Virtual Boy, 32X and Saturn, I had everything those companies put out. I bought a PS2 the year before I got an Xbox, which was the first non-Sega, non-Nintendo console I ever owned.
Actually for some of us in our 30s Xbox was released in our early 20s.
Anyway before the Xbox I was mainly Nintendo and Sega until the Saturn debacle then I got a Playstation One and was a Nintendo and Sony. My main console of choice has always been a Nintendo since the NES days and my second console was either Sega, Sony or MS. However after the Wii U and I begin to think of just dropping the Nintendo and mainly going Sony and MS.
I never owned an original Xbox during its lifespan but a friend of mine did (at that time my consoles of choice were Gamecube and PS2 and I barely had enough time for those two) so I played quite a bit of Halo and PGR over at his place. I now own an original Xbox, and enjoy it.
The Xbox 360 was the first Xbox I actually owned and at that time once again the Wii was my main console but due to Sony's arrogance at the beginning of last gen I went with the 360 over the PS3 mainly cause the games I wanted to play like GTA, and a few others were on both the 360 and PS3 but the 360 was cheaper.
I will eventually get an Xbox One especially with the price dropping like it has its just a matter of when.

First console was a Teleng Colorstars (bet ya never heard of it!). Later on I got a Sega Megadrive, then a PS1, PS2 before switching to Xbox 360, now Xbox One.
You don't stop gaming because you get old, you get old because you stop gaming.
So from what i recall first old school gaming console from my childhood was The Odyssey 2100 but that was my farther. From there i went on to play with Atari 2600 and few other Atari console over the years also my farther got the Vectrex did love play than lol it had is own wee monitor for it, Before I got Nes i got a Commodre 64 and to this day i still have it. Then i got ZX Spectrum the best game for me was V the game also had the light gun lol 007. Then i went on to the Nes with a light gun, Super Nes, Nintendo 64, 007 lol and the game cube also the WII that all Nintendo console, oh also Nes gameboys. As for Sega i got the Master System then Mega Drive 2 also so Sega CD add on and Sega Saturn than was last Sega console i got. Dam still good few more console to name as you can tell i love playing games lol. Back to what consolse. As for Sony i only went from PS1 and PS2 did not buy ps3 or the ps4 lol. For Xbox i went to the 360 to the One as for the first Xbox my room mate at the time own one so i try few games on it. As for the next console i buy will be Xbox one S and the new one next year what xbox will name it as. Not sure miss a fews lol
The first 'console' I had was actually my dad's and it was one of those bat and ball ones from late 70's and my first taste of gaming was my ZX Spectrum 128+ in about '84. After that I got an Amiga and then my brother got several Sega and Nintendo handhelds with the SNES and N64 and Gamecube. I got an original Xbox after I tried Halo on my brother's and then 2 360s and an Xbox One. I will be missing out the One S but getting the Scorpio. Oh, I had a PS1 slim that I picked up so I could play Gran Tourismo in about '01 or '02.
Stones we placed in holes in the sand. Post evolution, dice. After that ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro, PC then Xbox, Xbox, Xbox. I also had an MSX which Sony (amongst others) produced in the 80's and an Amstrad CPC128, PS2 and a Wii.
Now that some of you mention old gaming platforms, I have to say that my father had a Spectrum. He also got computers when they were expensive but because of his job he needed them anyway. I used to play some simple games on Spectrum and the computers. I could not have beaten anything like Sabrewulf, I remember F1, pinball and graphic adventure games. I loved graphic adventure games because my imagination was flying free and they made the player think. Complicated gameplay was not my thing. Going to the future, "Next" generation I'll probably pick up a Scorpio or a PC, I don't know, but I'm not in a hurry anyway. Not excited about NX nor PS4Neo and I want to use my Elite controller.
@Gamer83: Not until this generation did I buy a PS and an Xbox, but as a kid I played Sega's games at my friends'. I loved the 16-bit Sonic games.
@Tasuki: True, I didn't do the maths right. Interesting, Nintendo has always been my only choice until this generation when I was disappointed by Nintendo's decisions, hardware and even software, although I was a bit disappointed last generation, too. I got a PS4 in 2014 and the Xbox One Elite in February, but I prefer Microsoft's current (since Spencer) understanding of the business, not to mention Xbox users are, generally and in my experience, more friendly and open-minded than Nintendo and Sony's.
@sorethumbed: Did you use a stick? That could be considered the first joystick!
@sorethumbed: No, I don't know what they say about sticks and stones, what is it? I was imagining a guy with a stick trying to put stones into holes in the sand.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!
@VanillaLake It goes "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me", not sure if that is an English saying or if it is in other parts of the world.

Oh yeah, like saying words don't hurt me, right?

@VanillaLake: I don't know about Xbox owere being more open minded then PS owners. It's probably more about even then we notice since we as a race seem to remember the bad more then the good. I will say though that both are more open minded the Nintendo fans.

@Tasuki: This is the first generation that I'm dealing with PS and Xbox users, so I'm not really sure yet. To be honest, I have seen some very radical users and staffers on PushSquare. On Nintendo Life too (but I've been on Nintendo Life for longer).
Started with a Grandstand bat and ball console, then an ~Atari 2600, Spectrum, Megadrive, Atari Lynx, SNES, Ps1, PS2, PSP then went to the dark side with the 360, then the Xbone.
And I've seen fanboy wars since the Spectrum/C64 days. War. War never changes...
Here's my order. Excluding Nintendo & Sony's handheld lines, as I've played them all
NES
Sega Genesis
Phillips CDi (yeah. I was pretty cool)
Playstation 2
Playstation 3
Playstation 4
Wii U (yep, somehow this is where I jumped back on)
Edit* Nintendo Switch. Somehow I forgot this.
XBox One X (this is the first one I had, Gamepass is a heck of a selling point)
XBox/Steam/Epic: owendershot | Switch friend code: I don't remember, these codes are crazy, I'll check later.
Playstations are fine, but I don't have one.
