So, now that we got the release details, who's getting this? I'm there day one for all the hardware improvements and being able to play Xenoblade on the go. $200 seems fair and Gamestop is doing some decent trade-ins. Also judging by the Direct it seems like after a somewhat down year in 2014 the 3DS in general is back with Majora's Mask 3D, MH 4, Xenoblade and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker. If those were the only four games released for the system this year that'd be enough for me.
Only downside I see to upgrading is the New 3DS doesn't come with a charger. I've got a deal lined up to sell my current older 3DS, but I have to give up my charger and I don't have a spare. I'm going to have to buy a new one. Sure I could get one for cheap, but really Nintendo?

Yeah I read that, what an odd business decision! I'll likely give my "old" XL to a family member and let them find a charge cable
I might get one, but without friend messaging and the ability to substitute friend codes with NNIDs it doesn't seem like a must have. Few games to take advantage of the additional processing power is another thing that makes it less tempting. When I could get Windows 10 & an Xbox One controller for my PC & still have money leftover, I'm hard pressed for a reason to get a New 3DS XL when it comes out. Might as well wait for the next thing if this doesn't feel next gen enough, especially in spite of the other options. If Nintendo can make some technical marvels on this thing and make networking improvements, they have me on board, but if not, I'll be upgrading my PC instead.
I would've pre-ordered a New 3DS this morning if there were better color options available in NA. I'm seriously bummed about the choices. I would prefer white, but the blue that's available in EU and Japan (I think) would also do the trick for me. But red or black? Lame. Not sure what I'm going to do now. Possibly just wait for a LE model that I like.
If I'm able to get the MM Edition then I'll definitely be upgrading. I, too, am thinking of taking advantage of EB Games trade-in program. Not packing the charger is definitely an odd decision but I don't mind shelling out the $15 for a new one.
Also if anyone does a lot of digital purchasing on 3DS like me, don't forget the New 3DS supports microSD cards this time around, so you may need to purchase a new card too.
Probably, yes. My 3DS needs a new charging port anyway, so upgrading is a feasible option. I bought a decent sized micro SD on eBay for less than a tenner to go in my MP3 player, so not too fussed about changing that, although the decision to not add a charger bugs me. We're already sharing one charger between a 3DS and the kids' 2DS, so I'll probably have to fork out on another one.
It's been available here is Aus since November, but I didn't see any reason to upgrade right then and there. I was hoping that Xenoblade Chronicles would've launched with it - but alas...
Of course, now that I want a Majora's Mask version, it's already sold out everywhere! Gah!
...And yes, having no charger is still a BS move, Nintendo.
I would upgrade, but aside from a new Fire Emblem, I'm really not seeing anything in the 3DS release lineup that I'm desperate to play. I've got a 3DS sitting here and for the rare times that I want to play handheld games, it does the job.
My plan was to get one but I forgot there are a good number of games coming out early this year that I need to get. The Order this month, RE Revelations 2 and MLB The Show in March, Mortal Kombat X in April and then The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight in May and June. Crazy first half of the year, but that's great. I think most, if not all, of these games will deliver. I'm still unsure of RE Revelations 2 but I liked the first one a lot. The Order is another that could go either way, certainly has potential and PS4 needs that one big exclusive (Xbox One already has a few) so I'm rooting for it turn out well.
I tried one at the store; It was everything I expected. The 3D works good this time, there's a small, stiff 2nd stick, new shoulder buttons, etc. Nothing beyond a Xenoblade port and faster loading times for exclusives. Nintendo did great on the hardware, but they aren't supporting it with software this time around. I swear, it's always one of the two with them. If your 3DS is in poor condition or you don't have one already, then this is a great deal. But unless they can make more exclusives, make better use of the new CPU and RAM (such as better draw distance and textures in new games), and make an actual network (Nintendo Network is far from optimal as it is on 3DS), I won't get one. Better to wait for the next one that will have all that. For me at least, my money is best spent on my PC or saved up for the time being. I will get Ironfall however. I have a Circle Pad Pro, but there's an obvious advantage to having the new 3DS for that game.
