Again, arising from a conversation on a Game Night (TM) (you should join them!) is a thread about things that you have done, or achieved that not many people know about.
Heres mine:
I have represented the UK in the sport of R/C Drifting.
Proof:
(I'm on the right)
And don't drift with noobs.............
I went through the bush in botswana for 4 days looking for some lost people with a tracker. When we found them (starting from the same point) we had one more mile on our odometer than they had.
I was taken out of school at 3rd grade and didn't do any other schoolwork until I got my general education diploma and entered college as an adult. Now I'll soon be graduating college with a bachelor of science degree in computer science.
Once broke my back while playing soccer. I was in goal and landed backwards over the crossbar of a steel training goal. A fair few folks know that but what they don't know (my family still don't know, as they would have gone nuts!) is that I I went "on holiday" last year to Poland and had an operation while I was there to fix the residual problems, thanks to the NHS cancelling my operation over here no less than 7 times. Didn't seem to bother them that there were periods of time where I literally couldn't walk or even sit at my desk. Private docs in the UK wanted to charge the planet, so I worked like crazy for a few months to make enough spare cash and went to lovely Poland to get it done.
Was scared to death, laying on an operating table surrounded by nurses who didn't speak a word of English. Not saying that I would have expected them to be able to of course, but it was properly scary. Most professional procedure ever though and totally worth it. Least I can like...walk...and stuff.
I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was big in martial arts when I was in high school so people who meet me now don't know this. I have also studied other martial arts including.
Tai Chi
Pwang Gai Noon Ryu karate
Okinawa Kobudo (weapons)
Jui Jitsu

On the medical front, I've had cancer several times (2 minor & 2 major). I'm down a kidney and a chunk of a lung (kidney cancer spread there), have a mesh in my stomach holding me together and had a heart attack (major). Hard to kill springs to mind πππ

That's interesting. I haven't heard of many horror stories with NHS but that sounds pretty bad. I'm glad you found a way to have it taken care of.
Before the wife and I reproduced and we actually had some spare cash, we used to have many fish tanks. We have taken part in the world of competitive fish showing, and won certificates as well!
Its a cut-throat world.........

Damn... Congrats for overcoming all of that! That's amazing to hear. For the past three years I've been dealing with serious health issues that doctors haven't been able to figure out, and it's been a scary time. Hearing what you've been through and have survived has just eased my anxiety a bit. So, thanks for sharing!
Med science has progressed a lot. Things that once were a 'death sentence' are now, no longer, immediately so. I've passed the 5 year mark twice and am immensely proud (and relieved lol) of that. It'll probably get me in the end, just not yetπππ

Yup, that reproduction will flatten your wallet every time. Just wait, when they hit student time, I was paying for one in Paris and one in London simultaneously!
In my yoof I was the Royal Air Force Junior Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion (runner up the previous year). Funnily enough, both fights with the same guy in the final. In the second fight, I fought the last round with three cracked ribs (which he did with his head lol).
I once got through to the next round of a Karate tournament when my opponent tried to kick me, I blocked with my shin, and his big toe dislocated with an audible "crack!" When he put the foot down, he fell over and the his big toe was stuck out almost 90 degrees from the rest. Best bit was he tried to crack it back into place, and passed out as soon as he touched it. Bit of excitement having the ambulance and everything!
