This is a thread that arises out some idle chit chat on one of our Game Nights (tm). Basically, I was waxing lyrical on why the old Tomb Raider games were amazing. This led on to chat of a "Do you remember when....?" and "What about the moment in .?"

So basically, we can chat about gaming moments that blew your mind!

Mine are:

1) Street Fighter 2 on the SNES. It was SF2.....on the SNES! Amazing in its day, I still remember playing a Japanese copy on my PAL SNES with the dodgiest looking adapter and Mario plugged in the back of it!

2) Gran Turismo on the PlayStation. Blew me away, I has never seen graphics this good before, and teamed with the Dual Shock Pad, a revelation! And that intro sequence..........

3) Goldeneye/Turok on the N64. Apart from the dodgy controller, amazing games and the multiplayer on Goldeneye was awesome.

4) Devil may Cry on the PS2. First time I remember actually seeing a game character and thinking "Yeah, hes cool!"

5) Bayonetta on the 360: Wins the award for most mental game I've ever played. Killing angels with your hair? Why not!

And so many more.......The T-Rex on the original Tomb Raider, the world when you stumble out of the dungeon in Oblivion, killing Emerald Weapon in FFVII (I never could beat Ruby!) right up to one I found just today........when playing Lego Batman 3, if you fly with Superman or Wonder Woman, the game plays their old TV themes! Had a massive nostalgia hit from hearing the Wonder Woman theme.........

So, what are yours? Chime in, community!

The one that sicks out in my mind right now was the first time I entered a capital city in World of Warcraft. Seeing all the characters running around going about their business going to the auction house and bank and trainers, characters on mounts it just awed me and then what even awed me more is that each of those characters was a living person on the other end. I knew the game had a big following but I didn't imagine that big untill I walked into Orgimmar.

Another moment for me was when my friend and I first played Metal Gear Solid on the PS. Both of us were like OMG it's like an interactive move lol. Just the opening scene alone with the credits scrolling we just couldn't believe how far video games have come.

Of course my greatest amazing moment was when I first saw Super Mario Bros on the NES. Before that I played a few Atari games over at my cousins house stuff like baseball and Freeway but this was different. I was 6 at the time and I was so amazed at how you can control a cartoon character. I remember how amazed I was when I jumped over the first Goomba. Its hard to describe it with words but I am sure everyone knows that feeling.

I also remember a whileago, back in the mists of time, thinking these "polygon" things would never catch on............Until I played Starfox on the SNES. That changed my mind!

The first person to get a 16-bit console in our family was my Grandad, so he could play Arnold Palmer Golf on the Megadrive. It came bundled with Altered Beast, and to this day I remember "Wise fwom your gwave!"

I love fun topics like this, few of mine would be

The ending of Metal Gear Solid 3, having to shoot the boss and then finding out she sacrificed herself and big boss standing over her grave. Was such a great moment in a truly great game.

The garden battle in Final Fantasy 8, especially the scene after you safe Rinoa then run across the screen with a CG battle happening in the background.

Fighting Ganondorf in a pretty epic sword battle in legend of Zelda twilight princess

The death of rhaknam in skies of Arcadia

The intro to devil May cry 4, where Dante turns around covered in blood, looking menacing as hell.

The death of Aeris! The music, the emotion...........Still makes me well up now.

I know that I say this every time the topic comes up, but the first encounter with the dogs in Resident Evil is an image I can't shake from my memory. My sister and I each had a friend over for a sleepover, and we were all sitting on the floor huddled around the TV. When the first dog came crashing through the window, we ALL jumped. Then the second dog came into view and completely broke up our formation on the floor. That was our first experience with survival horror and our introduction to the PlayStation. I'll never ever forget it.

By the way, let's keep this thread going strong. I really enjoyed reading what everyone above me has shared.

Those dogs, man..........Just about wet myself the first time. Even when I know they are coming, it still makes me jump.

More things I'm remembering.......... The opening cinematic in FFX blew me away at the time.

Tekken: For showing that fighting games didn't have to be 2d to be fun. I'd played Battle Arena Toshinden, but that was gash.

In an opposite sense, the phosphorus section of Spec Ops: The Line has stayed with me. I'd just become a father, and playing this bit and then having to walk through the aftermath, and finally finding the mother trying to protect her child.......I put the controller down and never played that game again. Really genuinely hit me right in the feels.

All of it.

And how I sobbed like a little girl as the credits rolled.
