A couple of weeks ago we asked you fine folks about EA Play - more specifically about how important it was for you as an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate perk. The majority of Pure Xbox readers made it known that EA's subscription service was rather important, and that EA Play titles are regularly engaged with as part of your time using Xbox Game Pass.
However, in recent months Ubisoft's new subscription service has become a much more appealing prospect. It launched with a bit of a whimper, but recent day one releases like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Skull & Bones are seriously making us consider checking out Ubisoft Plus on Xbox.
The thing is, it's quite an undertaking to pick up Ubisoft Plus alongside Xbox Game Pass right now. At £14.99 a month here in the UK, it's just a little bit too expensive as a long-term subscription for us. The occasional free trials and single-month signups are great, but at full price we can't quite justify a lengthy membership at the moment, even despite some great new additions to the library.
However, if Microsoft worked to create some sort of new 'multi-subscription' tier on Xbox then we'd seriously reconsider. Maybe some kind of option where if you subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate at £12.99 per-month, you could add on Ubisoft Plus for an extra £10 a month? That would be quite good value for the amount of content that's now coming to Ubi Plus.
All in all, what do you think to this idea? Would you consider upping your Game Pass subscription cost to add Ubisoft+ into the mix, or aren't you that interested in the service? Vote in the poll and tell us your thoughts in the comments!
Would You Pay For A New Xbox Subscription Tier? (1,049 votes)
- Absolutely, I'd love to get Game Pass and Ubisoft Plus as a package deal!
- I'd be in for this, depending on Ubisoft's upcoming release schedule
- I'd consider it, for the right price
- I don't think I'd increase my sub cost, unless it was a really small fee
- Nah, there's too many games on Game Pass already!
- No way, Ubisoft Plus just isn't good enough right now!

I would actually pay money to not be subjected to anything Ubisoft.
For the right price sure. But As Ubisoft+ currently costs more than GP Ultimate I can't see this being a good deal. Would rather get Ubisoft+ on a month by month basis separately.
As you know this has been my personal protest to not ever subscribe to Ubisoft+ but advocate for it to be on Gamepass… just look at their recent games and they are already on sale and I would rather buy then subscribe for any length of time… hold the line!
I would rather just purchase Ubisoft on an as needed basis. This past month I beat Prince of Persia, AC Mirage, and The Crew Motorfest for $18 and then cancelled. I’ll do it again for another single month after both SW Outlaws and AC Red release. I can’t imagine I would pay less by having it bundled with Game Pass.
Ubi+ it's like a third of GP's price where I live so it's an amazing deal. I would pay a little more for it, even.
I would pay an extra £5 per month maximum to add UBI+ to game pass and that’s it.
Seems like a good idea. But i buy all my games digitally. Not sure the subscription thing is for me.
I havent even resubbed to gp since October, and thats fantastic value. Certainly not interested in ubi, skull and bones is awful from the 2.5 hours I wasted on it.
If it were £4 a month more, I can see some people going for it. Just not me 😁
I will NEVER pay for a subscription model as a means of accessing games. If I want to play a game, I BUY it so I can enjoy it on my own schedule and terms. EVERYTHING that publishers have pushed since online went mainstream has been aimed at training consumers to surrender more and more basic rights (EULAs are a direct affront to consumers' rights to the PRODUCTS...NOT "LICENSES"...we legally purchased), and control/gating/exploitation after the initial point-of-sale. Subscription models and online-centric games are the most heinous examples because they've created a throwaway culture with zero care about game preservation; the plug can get pulled at any time from their end and be gone forever whether you are okay with it or not. We are in the midst of the slowest pace of genuine (and genuinely finished and bug-free) "AAA", must-play releases in console history, so naturally M$ and $ony want you to invest in $500 hardware with nothing on it you actually own on top of that.
Stop letting these mega-corporations tell you what you "want" or "what's a good deal" (if you need a reminder, look back at certain remarks made by bigwigs at Square and Ubisoft over the past year or so); they've grown so arrogant and full of avarice that they've already started to destroy the very hobby that made them rich in the first place.
Pretty much every Ubisoft game is down to a fraction the price with in 6weeks. And they often appear on subscription services.
MS isn’t going to subsidise this on top of GPU, it’s just too much per month.
It starts becoming like TV subscription services after a point, in that there would just be no time to play what you're paying extra for.
I love Game Pass but cancelled my subscription for a couple of months when I bought Starfield and Mario Wonder, as there just wasn't time to go to work and play more than this. I've got it back now.
im sick of fees fees fees. got about a year left of gp then im done with all these fees.
Nah, not enough new Ubi games in a year to pay for It monthly. But I played and finished Avatar and PoP in the same month using the service so it can be an amazing value in certain circumstances. 25$ Canadian (with taxes) for a month for the most expensive edition of each game VS +200$ for buying them both. Did the same for Mirage last year.
Nah, I’m not too fussed about paying extra for more services.
Can I pay less and have the EA games removed? That’s what I’m interested in.
Nope. I have zero interest in Ubisoft games.
I can see a package deal for some people, but I personally wouldn’t want it. There’s so many games on gamepass as it is. My back catalog is full. If I was younger with no responsibilities, I might be able to get through these games faster so I’d consider Ubisoft+, but no I don’t have a need for that now.
I think subscriptions would benefit from more packaging with rival services. I just exited the TV streaming services completely. It got to the point where there are too many to keep track of.
If I could add ubisoft easily and at a discount I would grab a month here and there.
I'd rather have the option for a cheaper tier that excludes the EA stuff but has all the first party games to be honest...
Absolutely not. Ubisoft nose dived after the 360 era. I honestly couldn't care less if they stopped making games all together.
There would need to be a new tier inserted; Xbox...Penultimate?
Historically, I have bought most Ubisoft games that interested me. There is not enough in their service to warrant a subscription for me. Maybe the option of adding a discounted Ubi Plus as a "channel" (as some streaming services do) would work for some.
Well, at the moment I'm playing Assassin's creed mirage and 100% will not put anymore money in the coffers of UBISOFT until they stop being Munts, and making excuses about miss poor games, Valhalla CRAP MIRAGE AWFUL!!!!, I've seen indie games written better than the bugfest call Mirage! ,noooo to ubisoft! Love my gamepass ultimate. just updated it for another year and cost £48.00 winwin that isn't even one AAA game!
Most games of Ubisoft are discounted so deep after a few weeks that Ubisoft+ is definitely not worth the subscription costs.
Prince of Persia is on deep discount in Europe already! 40% off. Within a month.
No, Ubisoft titles get insanely cheap very fast so it’s always better to wait a couple of months and buy the game or if you REALLY want it just sub for a month and buy the game 6 months later for no more than $20.
People are wising up to subs. Gym, TV, phone, printers???
It's become too much. Gaming after the initial outlay has always been relatively cheap. Let's keep it that way.
I would pay £5, not £10 extra a month. I don't understand how Ubi+ is about the same price, if not more than game pass...
My household likes Ubisoft games. It's more cost effective to buy them on sale considering the game lengths. Fenyx Rising is considered one of the shorter Ubi games. Some household members took months to finish the campaign.
Id be more interested in a mmo bundle. Add ffxiv and wow subs in and raise it a reasonable amount
Nope. I like gamepass as is. Split by where you play.
I don't play much Ubisoft, but even I notice their games end up on sale quickly.
As for tiers, the Sony version is terrible. It's a constant bait and switch unless you sign up for the premium tier already. I'm not optimistic.
After all the ubi games I've purchased over the years ,I will stick to having a month or two around December to complete the games I've missed , I'm still kicking myself for paying full price ( with rewards points) for AC mirage
The problem with Ubisoft Plus, aside from that long term it's just cheaper buying the games on sale, is that the past 10 years they've almost exclusively focused on Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, & Just Dance. So they don't really have the catalog of old games to take up space regardless of new ones coming out, and they can't possibly output enough games to get people to use it for anything more than an occasional rental of something new.
@AtlanteanMan
“Stop letting these mega-corporations tell you what you "want" or "what's a good deal"
I’m sorry, but I found that entire post so far off base, that I am having a hard time finding words for it. Game Pass has in no way hindered my ability to buy games and it has in no way pushed on me what to play or the kinds of games I enjoy.
What Game Pass has done is given me a never ending supply of new games to try out, many of which I never in a million years would have purchased and many of which I wound up absolutely loving. It has saved me money and given me much more information and ultimately power in regards to which games I deem worthy of buying. I am no longer buying a lot of my games utterly blind. I get to play them first.
Been on Game Pass for 3 years and have played a TON of games through the service that I have absolutely loved. I for one couldnt imagine going back to gaming without it and the reason for that has nothing to do with being trained by the corporate overlords in gaming.
I hate all the different tiers that different services have these days. I let PS Plus expire because of the prize increase that went into effect that I believe was put in place to keep the price of Sony's top tier from increasing.
@Moby
The PS Plus Premium has nothing to offer aside from a very select retro (PS 1,2)games. Those PS1,2 games could have been bought for next to nothing in 2010 and not need to rely on subs
I'm not seeing how PS Plus can bait and switch
PS Plus Extra = Gamepass Ultimate
PS Plus = GP core
PS Plus Premium = bullcrap
@cardcrusher29 agreed. Over priced as hell.
Not really. I’m all subbed out
The subscription model suits myself and when I feel the need to unsub, I can do so. Currently playing AC Valhalla which I bought awhile ago for €17. Its now on game pass so I get the points when playing and unlocking achievements. I decided to sub to Ubisoft+ to play the new Prince of Persia game and what I didn't know, was that for Valhalla, it unlocked all the DLC. Valhalla is going to take me well over 100 hours to clear and now the DLC is going to add even more. The sub was worth it and will keep it for 2 months.
When doing some money budgeting, I looked into what is worth keeping and how many hours do u need to work to afford both Game Pass and Ubisoft+. Luckily enough I only need to work 2.5 hours of a month to pay for these. Breaking down my bills like this, has made me much more happier. Have saved so much from these subscription models and most importantly, have played great games. When I love a series of games like Resident Evil or a Fromsoftware game, ill splash out cause I'll replay those game over and over. Play what you want, do it the way you want it and enjoy gaming how you like it
@Carck haha, you speak for many of us.
If it were around £15 a month for GP AND Ubi+ then yeah...otherwise nah.
The fact that Ubisoft has such a small catalogue but charges more than Game Pass is a slap in the face. The more these models and pricing structures are encouraged, the higher the pricing and the lack of physical content owned will increase.
I recently stopped subscribing to Disney+ and I won't go back to Netflix either because I end up paying money every month for the possibility of watching several things...most of which I end up not watching so I'm literally throwing money out of my window. This is how they want everyone now, paying for the OPTION to do things which mostly you don't or can't have enough time to even do.
As people stated above, there's too many subscription models around already on TV and now Ubisoft have decided to jump on and offer an overpriced service which only encourages others if people support it.
If it's going to happen, then ONE service like Game Pass should be it. Going higher than £15 though would be too much in my opinion.
No, subscriptions are useless to me, I'd rather just buy my games and own them without the worry of a time limit for something I don't own at the end of it.
No, but I would literally pay more for Gold/Core if they stopped allowing other publishers' ***** accounts to be mandatory in order to play games on the platform. I don't want an account with EA, Activision, Bethesda, IOI, 2K, Rockstar, Ubisoft, and whoever the ***** made Second Extinction. I literally refunded Second Extinction for that very reason. I won't buy anything that expects me to make another account anymore. The only account I should need to play games on Xbox is the one I ***** buy them with.
I resubbed to Gamepass about 6 months ago for another 3 years (got it cheap) but I haven't played anything on it since. The other consoles have had more to offer me so I've been playing there. I'll probably play one or two big releases this year on Xbox and everything else will be on Switch and PS5. So I'm definitely not interested in more tiers.
I’ve never wanted anything less.
Probably a fair deal but even as a non-subscriber of anything but has access to PS+/Gamepass via people that do use it I still don't care to use them. Physical or 'some digital'. But mostly physical and what interests interests, if not it's B/AA grade retro games then formuliac modern games I'm not into or certain Indies/AA games that do with their gameplay ideas.
Ubisoft adding support was rumoured a while ago, fair if it is to be/has been added besides just a separate sub for Ubisoft on Amazon Luna or whatever the case and I also just don't find their current games that appealing so no it's not for me at all but is for some audience out there.
The Nintendo console ones aren't offered for obvious reasons (controllers/inputs to work around, they won't rework them or port them even if they could put Red Steel 2 in VR but won't) and their older games prior to PS4/Xbox One (any remasters are on there then the PS3/360 versions have been unless on Xbox back compat of 360 titles probably anyway or certain titles are then all published ones) then no thanks.
Not a reason to sub at all if back compat or no interest in their current or 'particular selection of old games to a certain point' then other older games by the publisher/developers I'd rather play that they don't offer.
If we have been gaming so long between publishers games for the past PS3/360 and PS4/Xbox One gens we already know what appealed to us or what they have offered on these services besides what's new.
If they don't offer enough of the past we haven't played but do have an interest, why should I sub? Their current stuff has some appeal for sure to some people but at the same time the account obstacle, whatever business models, they get cheap quickly physical or digital anyways, pass.
Ubisoft/EA and Gamepass is fair but at the same time there is tons not part of these services people would be into as well. They aren't being offered for their reasons.
Even PS+ Extra is fine but most if not all PS Deluxe/Premium if you can stream them you either have the PS1/2/PSP games or hope the PSP version is there if not the PS2/3 version for Deluxe users. Or you just emu them or just pick them up if cheap or reasonably priced on original hardware then the streaming or probably fair changes of official emulation but even still. Not that hard to access really.
