Talking Point: With Fable Now Delayed, Which Xbox First-Party Game Launches This Fall?

Well, Microsoft delivered the news this week that its big Fable reboot has been delayed - and before this recent turn of events, the Xbox RPG was probably the team's biggest release planned for late 2025. However, even with this delay, Xbox still has some major games planned for this year including South of Midnight and DOOM: The Dark Ages - the question is, what replaces Fable later in the year?

Admittedly, our first thought goes to Call of Duty, to be honest. Even with GTA 6 potentially still on the cards for a 2025 launch, it seems unlikely COD will get delayed - the series releases like clockwork every single year and is basically guaranteed to sell even with a new Rockstar game on the horizon.

Having said that, if we gloss over Call of Duty for a moment, there's still a decent chance that Xbox wants another one of its internal studios to deliver a big game this year. Will it be Gears of War: E-Day? What about the well-reported Oblivion remake or perhaps something like State of Decay 3 or Clockwork Revolution? There are lots of different places Microsoft could pull from here.

Of course, one other title that's already penned to come out in 2025 is The Outer Worlds 2. Obsidian's next big RPG following this month's Avowed is well on the way, and with how prolific this team is, we have no reason to doubt it can't deliver on TOW2 as well. Maybe, just maybe, The Outer Worlds 2 and a new COD game will be enough for Microsoft's lineup later this year.
