Over the past 23 years of Xbox, we've been fortunate enough to experience some absolute classics from Halo: Combat Evolved to Gears of War, and many of us have cherished memories of these games that we'd love to relive again.
Alas, it's never quite the same the second time around, especially in linear single-player games where the experience doesn't change all that much from playthrough to playthrough. With that in mind, we thought we'd use our weekend "Talking Point" feature to ask which Xbox game you'd particularly like to play again for the first time!
For this writer, it's Telltale's first season of The Walking Dead. If you haven't played it yet, I highly recommend checking it out on Xbox Game Pass, as it takes you on an emotional ride that'll stick long in the memory!
But what about you? Are you thinking of an Xbox exclusive, or something multi-platform? Is it part of a major franchise like Halo or Call of Duty, or is it perhaps a smaller indie that some of us might not have heard of?
Let us know which Xbox game you'd love to play again for the first time down in the comments below!

I would love to play morrowind for the first time.
BMX XXX
Just kidding
I don't really think I have a game I want to experience for the first time again
Halo combat evolved!
Mass effect trilogy and gears trilogy for defo
Morrowind.
It’s one of my favourite games and it’s still the best out of every modern Bethesda/Todd Howard game.
Even better than Skyrim, Starfield and Fallout: New Vegas (which, yes, wasn’t from Todd Howard or the main Bethesda studio, but it’s practically an officially-licensed standalone Fallout 3 total conversion).
I choose Elden Ring.
@Kaloudz TIL buffy the vamp slayer games are a thing lol
@Cakefish +1 what a glorious experience that was
Probably Witcher 2. I hated it at the time. I just didn’t “get it,” and it took me forever to embrace Witcher 3 too, but once I did, I felt so foolish in my futile resistance. Never got a chance to go back to Witcher 2 though. I loaned my copy out and it never came home, as I moved shortly after that.
Outside that, perhaps Child of Eden. Man, that game blew me away and I feel like it’d blow me away now going into it blind too. There’s always D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die as well… what a ride that was….
Halo combat evolved is the best xbox exclusive ever for me and uo the there with the best games ever made it made fps from pc to games consoles the norm before halo we all we got were half arsered conversions I'd have gears of war as a close second that was an amazing game at the time as well
The original Halo combat evolved and Gears of war one.
There were amazing for there time and lead the way so much.
I don’t think Xbox has matched that feeling since.
So many friends at the time picked up an Xbox360 after playing gears of war at my house back then.
World of Warcraft, it counts now doesn't it?
But seriously I would love to play WoW for the first time again. Just the scope of the game, the lore and of course meeting a good group of people to share adventures with from all over Azoroth. I have never been able to match that feeling with any other game since.
Lollipop Chainsaw. One of Suda's most bonkers titles and an absolute joy to play.
Such a shame it never got the BC treatment and I'm stuck waiting on the remake to play again.
Gears of War and Halo CE.
Gears of War, Skyrim, fable.
I would love to experience the ubisoft formula for the first time again. Far Cry 3 and assassins Creed 2 for the first time was an incredible experience. Battlefield 3, bioshock, left 4 dead, red dead redemption, halo 3, tomb Raider 2013, are some others.
Arkham Asylum and Bioshock
Why is Pure Xbox not reporting that the Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Beta has been announced for mid January - February 2024 at today's Final Fantasy 14 Festival 2023 in London
goldeneye
the og resident evil 1,2,3,cv
the old medal of honor games up to frontline
skyrim!
fallout 3 and 4
the first metal gear solid
death stranding(its on pc game pass right?)
world of warcraft, it was my first mmorpg and blew me away.
and my all time most played game, ark survival evolved.
Now that Microsoft owns Activision Blizzard it be nice to see Games Pass get Lionheads Studios The Movies. But I'd love to see Black & White get a HD remaster/remake.
I have a few:
Mass Effect Trilogy
Gears of War (the entire collection)
Halo (the entire saga)
Dead Space (all 3 of them)
Divinity Original Sin 2 (I would love to get the achievement for doing an entire run without dying again. That was intense!)
and
Baldur's Gate 3, which is simply amazing.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Wet. Both great and underrated games.
Asuras Wrath. That game was so gonzo, and over the top. Blew me away, despite not much meat being on the bones. Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes is my runner up, for taking something I knew well, and making it (even more) over the top and silly. I'd love remasters of both.
@Kaloudz ahh man I loved the Buffy games, I got the first one bundled in when I bought my OG Xbox.
I’ve only been playing since last December so everything is on the first go… I did have a lot of fun with Pikmin so I will go with that!
Definitely Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
"Halo 2"
"Lost Odyssey"
"Dark Souls"
Rocket League or competitive shooters like Destiny / Halo.
I didn't understand what it takes to get good at the things when I was younger and I'd get super scrubby and flustered really easily. I didn't try and enjoy the journey or understand that here things take a lot of time.
Halo Combat Evolved on and also The first Forza Horizon! And then Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2. Those would be amaizing to experience again for the first time.
I'm confused. What does it mean to play again for the first time?
Elder Scrolls Oblivion as it absolutely blew me away.
@CutchuSlow I'm assuming they mean which game blew you away the most the first time you played it.
Shadowrun the shooter.
Honestly I can't say enough how incredible and ahead of its time this game was. Of all the games could remaster or reboot. That's the one would vote for any day, every day.
@MaseSco Wet was pretty awesome. Wasn't that eliza dusku or Mila kuniz as main character?
Hmmm…. Either Grand Theft Auto 4 or Assassins Creed 2.
Blood Omen 2. I still pop it in to my original Xbox to play it from time to time. Great extension to to Blood Omen series. Loved Soul Reaver on the dreamcast too. Wish they could bring all those games back. And put out a new one!
Beatles Rock Band
Mass effect trilogy
Bioshock
Both due to the stories
As a wildcard choice - Clive barkers Jericho - I loved the switching between characters and abilities!
Forza Horizon 1. Easily my favourite of the series, this is confounded more by the fact that I can never start again or I will lose all my custom car paint jobs. Microsoft turned the servers off and so my copy of them is the only one that will ever be there.
Fallout 3, the sense of isolation and wonder as you leave the vault for first time. Dragon Age 1, a real rpg on the consoles! And Lost Odyssey such a moving game
@GuyinPA75 Eliza Dushku. Wet was great, hope Bethesda/Xbox can work out a remaster.
Fable 2, Jade Empire (which needs a remake), ME1, Assassin’s Creed 1(and Odyssey), Azura’s Wrath. I’d put Dragon Age Origins and TES:Oblivion but those games play best on PC for me.
Especially as many games on the list I went on to dislike the eventual series but had so much hype/investment before the sequels disappointed me.
Halo 2 - Still my favourite xbox title. It made me excited for where xbox gaming would take me.
Lost Odessey - I hoped this was to be the vanguard of xbox quality jrpgs and loved my time with it.
Oblivion - still bethusdas best imo. Walking through a firey portal gate for the first time, I'll never forget it.
Sunset Overdrive. Loved the game through and through, and there is no NewGame+ feature. You actually have to delete your main character/save to start over again. Otherwise you can't play the first missions on a replay level list, and that list that does exist is only in alphabetical order.
But the story was such a joy that I would enjoy playing over again as if it was the first time again.
Hardly an original comment, but.
Halo CE and Gears of War. Lost some hours to them in the day!
The Original Ghostrecon, 1, & 2,
Nascar Heat 2,
From The O.G.C.
Would be out of Mass Effect, Morrowind, KotoR, the first PGR or JSRF.
Hello there fellow gamers.
There are quite a lot of games I would love to play again for the first time, so I´m just going to name a few:
That whole sequence, that plays homage of the first game, with the amazing score from Martin O´Donnell kicking in.....
It is one of the most amazing gaming sequences I´ve experienced in a videogame, hands down. It is so good.
Cheers and happy gaming everyone
Morrowind, Mass Effect 2, KotoR, Fable 2, Dragon Age Origins, GTA Vice City, Halo 1 - Reach, Project Gotham Racing 1-4, Crackdown, Burnout 1- Burnout Revenge, Street Fighter 4.
Tom Clancys EndWar one of the best and original games I've ever played... would love to play again... thay and Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution or perhaps Ruse
I would like to play Need for speed underground and underground 2 on Xbox series x please!!!
Halo CE! Not sure I have a better memory than my first time playing that. Maybe Splinter Cell or Manhunt.
Easy, Deadly Premonition.
Advent Rising, I seem to be the only person that loved that game, but I truly adored it. I wish someone would pick
It up to make a sequel for it.
Without question for me the answer is The Outer Wilds (obligatory disclaimer I'm not referring to The Outer Worlds), that game is a once in a lifetime experience that you cannot replay.
Halo CE and gears of war 2 .
2 mind blowing games even today
Halo Combat Evolved.
Amped - the best snowboarding game ever made
Jet set radio future
Halo Combat Evolved. I’ve still yet to experience the same feeling I had when I played it for the first time, most likely because I was a kid and was in awe with the game, especially when I landed on the Halo ring planet (second mission).
Bully. The first time I played that game... I got sucked in.
Crimson Skies!! (one of the very few games I've played from start to finish repeatedly)
star wars : kotor from og xbox in 2003 and xbox360 gears of war 2006 which was an epic first experience
F.E.A.R, Condemned and Fallout 3
I still haven't played a Gears or a Halo game (because I'm new to Xbox)
@Hydra_Spectre i just bought a copy of morrow wind off ebay, was cheap, had the map and i've been kind of collecting. does it still hold up/ worth playing you think?
Knights of the Old Republic
@Reptilio It's really janky, much jankier than even later Bethesda games, but it turns into a masterpiece once you adjust to the jank.
Razes Hell. That game would be awesome to see for the newer generation of systems. PLEASE MAKE THIS HAPPEN, MISTER PHIL SPENCER
