So, all of a sudden we're starting to see lots of rumours about Xbox's upcoming 2024 summer showcase - including a potential ActiBlizz back catalogue announcement of some sort. This announcement could include Call of Duty in some fashion (we've still not seen any of those titles appear on Xbox Game Pass) but for now, it's all a bit vague until Microsoft makes an official statement.
However, if this announcement goes ahead, we'll be pretty darn hyped - especially when it comes to some of those Xbox 360 classics that haven't arrived on Game Pass yet. That era was special when it came to Call of Duty, and we'd love to see more of our pals be able to easily play old CoD titles with a Game Pass sub.
If something along these lines happens at the Xbox showcase this year and we get a big announcement, which old school Call of Duty game would you be most excited to play? Put it this way: which classic CoD would you get downloaded and re-live the good times with first?
For us, it'd either be the original Modern Warfare or the original Black Ops. Both of these 360 titles seem to have pretty small player bases these days, at least when it comes to finding games online, so we'd love for the two of them to get a big population boost thanks to Xbox Game Pass.
There are lots of other good shouts too, like the OG MW2 or maybe the fan-favourite Black Ops 2, but yeah, it's one of those two for us here at PX HQ. We want to know which you would choose though! Vote in the poll down below and talk more about your choice in the comments section.
Which Classic CoD Would You Play First On Xbox Game Pass? (1,136 votes)
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 3
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Call of Duty: World at War
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Meh, none of them. Had fun back in the day, but won't touch them anymore.
It all depends. If Microsoft fixes the hacking problem then Black Ops 2. If they don't then none of them.
@Tasuki With them closing the Xbox 360 online functionalities soon maybe that will solve the problem so people cannot access the servers with their modified 360 consoles or whatever but something did happen last year with the servers, it did solve some of it but I don't know if it lasted.
All of them, so I can do all the campaigns 😁
BO 1 🥰
@MrConstantina I literally only want to go back and play the campaigns. I will probably play them on a lower setting just to get through the stories again. I don't have the time to frustrate myself with difficult playthroughs anymore. I love games with a story mode difficulty now.
I'll just play the single player campaigns on each to be honest.
I've never played a Call of Duty game, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is apparently one of the best and it supports local multiplayer, so that's what I'd be checking out.
The only CoD I haven't played in the Pre-WarZone Era is Infinite Warfare. I hear only great things about the campaign and I never hated the advanced movement so I'll touch it the instant it's on GP.
Fingers crossed for 🤞Big Red One🤞 & 🤞Finest Hour🤞
None of them to be honest.
I have heard that if you joined a hacked lobby in one of these games - all the achievements could pop but you then can get banned. Even if you didn’t know it was hacked when you joined. So i’m worried about the multiplayer.
I wouldn’t mind trying the Black Ops series out since I liked Cold War. Also want to try Modern Warfare 2019 and its sequels.
Going to play all the campaigns, but no multiplayer!
I'll go back to Modern Warfare 2 because the newer CoD games are utter ***** and maybe Black Ops 2.
Never played a CoD game so whatever one is the first sequentially and go from there….
None of these, as I've played them all. Incidentally, Black Ops II is where I stopped playing COD on an annual basis; I've only played two or three since then. Modern Warfare 2019 and Modern Warfare II 2022 are the ones I'd most likely to see on Game Pass.
COD4 till this day is my fave of them all.
2007 online gaming at its peak
Well, they certainly should be "gearing up" for some sort of COD announcement, they own the franchise.
If any probably black ops 2
Definitely starting with Black Ops 2 then going through the rest of the Black Ops games as I barely played 3 and 4. Then will give Modern Warfare remastered another go.
Most interested in playing the old local offline multiplayer/ combat training.
Really hoping these games include all the DLC, as I’m not interested in buying them again.
@AlwaysPlaying
Advanced Warfare campaign is the best
Then Infinite Warfare campaign
as a sci-fi fan that is. All others are too realistic military murdering for me, dull story.
MW2 is the goat & changed COD forever. sorry COD4 fanboys
I've never played COD before and it's unlikely I'm going to start, even if they're coming at no extra cost to me.
Definitely the first two Black Ops for me...They've never really revived them like they did with MW, maybe because it was Treyarch and not Infinity .. The more recent Black Ops titles seemed to come out during that no mans land between the 360 to One console transistion..at least for me.. I'd love to play those BLOP maps again.. Kowloon was one of my favs for some reason.
It’s shockingly sad how little interest I have in any activision or blizzard property past approximately 2001. Possibly earlier.
Everyone saying they have no interest in playing any COD......until it shows up in gamepass and they hear tons of other people playing it and enjoying themselves 🤣🤣
none its beter the play the originals on pc without xbox drm
you can play on modded servers or not
use whatever graphic settings you desire, on whatever framerate
I would play several campagins. One I always kinda wanted to try was the Infinite warfare one.
@mikecamel Haha! that be true...🤣👍
Not my thing, I don't play COD and have no desire to, but I recognise this will be popular with many and I hope they enjoy it.
I actually own every one of the Call of Duty games starting with CoD2. I have all those in the poll on disc.
The only one I no longer have is the very first one. Is there a reason why the first one is not included in the poll, @Kezelpaso? Is it not backward compatible?
@Fiendish-Beaver Yeah it's not BC, and the Xbox version was a weird Live Arcade release. I'd like to see it get a proper port in some fashion!
@jesse_dylan similar boat, I loved WoW in 2004 and thought Diablo 4 in 2023 was very good. Incredibly short list.
@Jenkinss I had a WoW phase as well! I really liked 1990s Blizzard. And Activision is sitting on an absolute hoard of properties from the 1970s-2000, many of their own and others they purchased and... hoarded. I wish Microsoft would do something with those. For instance, I'm pretty sure they own the rights to a bunch of classic Sierra On-Line stuff. It may be niche now, but it was a big deal pre-2000.
I’d love to play through COD 2 again. I used to own and run an Xbox leagues site back in the day which became popular and we even had a tech wizz who could make a multiplayer server before such things were active. He used some kind of NTL connection and we even came to the attention of Infinity Ward. Those were the days.
And which was the one with the infamous airport scene? I think that was IV Modern warfare? That’s the other one I’d play again…..
The Kevin Spacey just for the sake of curiosity, but I don’t care about call of Duty at all. In my eyes is Fifa with guns and American flags.
Probably Black Ops (the first one), or World at War. I had WaW back on PS3 which was fun (though not as groundbreaking as MW), but I've never played any of the Black Ops series.
