The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase is all done and dusted for another year, and while we did see some rumours coming to fruition such as a new Minecraft game and the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC, one of the things that we really expected to see but didn't make an appearance is an Xbox port of the classic N64 game, GoldenEye 007.
We know this thing exists, because the achievements have even been displayed publicly on the Xbox website in recent days, but for some reason the announcement continues to be held back. What are we waiting for?
Well, it could be that licensing issues are still causing a problem, or maybe the announcement is being held for a separate event in the future - possibly even the Xbox Games Showcase Extended event on Tuesday - so for now we're just going to have to sit tight. Regardless, it's fun to speculate about when we eventually might see it!
So, when do you think we'll hear about GoldenEye 007 for Xbox? Let us know in the comments below.

These articles are nice so the world (people browsing and getting Bing and Google feed) and Microsoft know that we're still waiting for Goldeneye but I'd also love more articles requesting classic IPs such as Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Viva Piñata, Conker... I know we have unofficial confirmation about Goldeneye's comeback but it's a shame, in my opinion, that some of the greatest IPs that Microsoft owns are in a coma. We need Phil Spencer to know it's a shame and he admitted that he'd like more games like those.
I reckon that it'll be an announcement made by Eon / Danjaq rather than being tied to any one console, as part of them marking 60 years of Bond. Microsoft and Nintendo will then do an announcement afterwards (because part of the deal probably involves having the game available on both their consoles). Hopefully Nintendo will have the remaster on Switch as a dedicated release and not just have the original as part of the NSO Expansion Pass. When? Well obviously the sooner the better for me but I thought earlier "ooh, I wonder if they'll use the release date for Dr. No as their marker for when it all kicks off?" ... but that isn't until October urgh.
With Nintendo as the original publisher and still required for getting the game out (on both Switch and Xbox) GoldenEye's announcement might be held back until their non-E3 showcase, whenever that is.
@Retron That's the only thing that makes sense to me, otherwise I'd just assume it's not coming.
Hoping for a little bit more on the extended event. A couple of unexpected nuggets would be nice.
I'm eagerly awaiting on what the second batch of June games will bring.
TMNT Shredders Revenge and Naraka Bladepoint are already confirmed but what else?
Haven't heard anything on that TimeSplitters project that THQ Nordic was supposedly working on in several months. Personally I'd be thrilled to see an announcement on that as well.
What happened to that crap about "banjo is coming back"
That was a load of rubbish too
I think Nintendo's going to announce it in a Direct, June's NSO Expansion Pack game ends up being the already announced Pokemon Snap (the last NSO Expansion Pack game that was revealed in September 2021) and then the next batch of games includes Goldeneye, Banjo-Tooie, Perfect Dark, etc.
There’s still time for this one to come out. I’m wondering if Xbox is holding back on the announcement for this either for Tuesday or closer to the 25th anniversary date.
@EvilSilentFrame what's happening on Tuesday?
@G1lbo they have an “extended” Xbox showcase tomorrow June 14th. Personally I think they’ll be going over games already announced, but it’s possible they’ll announce something new. Everything from Sunday was coming out in 12 months, or so they say. Maybe they have more they want to show outside that 12 month window.
Hopefully might hear something tomorrow but not holding my breath,although they did say some new announcements/surprises would be among the deep dives and gameplay in Tuesday's event.
@EvilSilentFrame didn't know that - cheers! I want to believe it'll be ASAP, but I really think we're talking 60th Anniversary of Dr. No. to coincide with everything Bond-on-screen related's anniversary.
@Banjo- yea but you biased as heck! 😉
@BBB Goldeneye's a masterpiece, and I for one appreciate remasters & remakes more often than not.
Watched the show yesterday hoping that we would see Goldeneye be announced and perhaps even brought out that day. Let’s hope it gets shown tomorrow but there’s always the 25th anniversary and also the Bond 60th anniversary later on this year.
It’s probably the same as how it’s always been for that game. They likely have it finished and ready to go but licensing will always hold that game back from being released again.
@Tharsman I like many kind of games, I just support more the franchises that should be supported more. I'm sure that there are enough Forza and Halo supporters already 😉.
@I_Go_by_Many_Names Yep, it's weird that they're not making the most of their legacy when they have genres and styles gaps, when Phil Spencer admitted so, when new AAA games take 5 or more years to be developed and when Game Pass is perfect for the variety that many people is asking for. It might be related to how Phil Spencer gives studios too much freedom which sometimes become chaos like at The Initiative.
Not gonna hold my breath (exhales...letting go)
Over waiting so putting this out of my mind.
Wasn’t there a leaked Nintendo direct thing for Wednesday? Or later this week? I’m guessing it will be announced by Nintendo and then Xbox will drop same day.
Got tired of waiting, sold my Series X , and decided to just play all upcoming Xbox games in my head right now while sitting in bed. So far the new Perfect Dark is pretty decent, although the writing sucks and it crashes constantly. Also, a clown with with fangs shows up and chases my character from time to time. On the plus side, I can play it in bed whilst staring at the wall!
If it were ever to release it would have been addressed recently. I don't think it's ever coming out.
@Leuke yeah, I also agree with @Retron.
We'll wait and see what's NIntendo saying on this.
