Last Friday treated us to a fantastic finale for September on Xbox Game Pass in the form of Cocoon, which racked up one of the best Metacritic ratings we've seen for an indie game in 2023 - finishing the week with a score of 89.
There were some really impressive reviews doing the rounds that led to this, including a rare 5/5 from Eurogamer!
We've seen quite a lot of buzz around this game for the past few months, and most of it came from the fact that the lead gameplay designer of the critically acclaimed Limbo and Inside (Jeppe Carlsen) was helming the project.
The final product obviously lived up to expectations for the majority of critics, but what about you? We're interested to know if you've had a chance to try Cocoon over the past few days, and if so, what do you think of it so far?
Let us know your thoughts on Cocoon down in the poll and comments below.

I finished it on saturday, it's an incredible game, easily one of the best of the year, the puzzles are great, simple mechanics yet complex executions, difficult but not at all frustrating, a must play if you have gamepass
Played and dropped
Bad mechanics. Cheap "death"
Games are meant to be fun, not annoying.
I’ve not had a chance to get back to it from my first session, but from what have played, I’m quite impressed. Without a doubt, it’s my favorite thing I’ve tried on Gamepass this year and I’m looking forward to getting deeper into it. From what I’ve heard, I’m perhaps a quarter of the way through it.
It’s amazing. Probably the best indie game of the year and deserves all the praise it’s been getting.
i've barely been able to pull myself away from starfield long enough to start a horror game for halloween. Starting with silent hill 2 for first time. man i can't believe how antiquated it is, i thought it was ps1 era until i remember there was no voice acting back then. it play just like a ps1 game w a ps2 sheen. Also have re7 gold on the way, barely remember playing it when it first came out
Ive downloaded it ready to go, but so many games! I will make time for this one though...
I gave it an hour or so yesterday and so impressed by it and can’t wait to find a bit more time to play. Going to refrain from dropping a score at the moment though as not given it enough time
What do I think.... it's an amazing game!
I gave it a 10 as the game play is challenging but the special effects when you figure out a puzzle are the best I have seen for awhile… not a lot of shooting zombies though…
From what I've played its fantastic. Love the puzzles, sound effects and soundtrack.😁
Finished it today and amazing game both visually and in the puzzle design. I love me a good puzzle game and this did not disappoint.
Also big shout-out for Game Pass for adding games like these on the service. Have played so many crazy good Indies on the service.
9/10 for me so far. Definitely one of the great games of the year and highly recommend. It's a shoe in for Indie Game of the Year
@Spider-Kev Yeah I agree, it's odd how frustrating game design gets so heavily praised these days.
Not my cup of tea. I gave it a go, only because of the reviews really, but soon decided it wasn’t for me.
Got a second session in and this game is blowing my mind. I’m not sure where the game has “frustrating level design” about two hours in. So far, it’s been easy enough with the occasional stumper that makes you think for a few minutes before your mind goes, “I can’t believe I didn’t realize this right away!” And sometimes when you realize the solution, it’s mind-expanding as well. The game just opens up gradually. It’s onion of a game, unpeeling itself as you progress. Really wonderful.
@Reptilio you and me both. I'm just barely treading water in starfield and I'm not sure what horror game to start. I have RE8 in my backlog but I'm kinda hoping alan wake 1 goes on a sale for switch so I can play that in handheld. And if all goes well and I like it, buy alan wake 2.
Checked out a video of it , those type of games don't appeal to me at all so I'll be skipping this one.
I enjoyed it while playing it. I'm ashamed to say i got stuck about half way through, and with no 'levels' or named areas finding the solution online was near impossible. A gave up looking and gave up on the game. Strange as i always try to complete a game but i've had no real interest at giving it a second go. 8/10
Not my thing, better luck next time.
@Zucaritas Well said. I couldn't agree with you more.
