It's the weekend! We're sure many of you will be enjoying Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 over the next couple of days, but don't forget we've also got some Free Play Days titles along with the ongoing Shocktober Sale to take advantage of.
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
Well, I'm actually not around much this weekend, but any time I do get will likely be spent with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. It's the first Call of Duty I've properly played since the early Xbox One era, and I'm definitely enjoying myself with the campaign so far - still a bit nervous to jump into the world of multiplayer though! That's my next mission.
For the bits of the weekend when I'm travelling, I'll be using my Switch - and I've recently been checking out The Plucky Squire on there. I get what everyone says about it being too easy and insistent on holding your hand at all times, but I love the visual style and just the overall creativity that's gone into it. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Have a good weekend, folks.
What are you playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Sci-fi Single-Player Open-World Endgaming, trying to find which has the most fun for me:
Starfield
Avatar Frontiers of Pandora
Starlink Battle for Atlas
With some morning Garfield Kart, my favourite Kart Racer (big Garfield fan).
Easy..
Black Ops 4, Black Ops 4 and........Black Ops 4
Given the imminent release of the new Dragon Age game I have been playing through the previous ones as a bit of a side project.
Worked my way through the first two and enjoyed them immensely despite their age.
Currently working on DA: Inquisition and I forgot how good this one is too. It's been many years since I last played it so I have forgotten a lot of the story & it's been fun to rediscover that.
I am still not sure if I am getting Veilguard yet & will wait on reviews.
Also still tinkering away at Diablo 4 though I have stepped off the gas a little with that game.
No Black Ops for me & zero interest in trying it.
I’m still on with my Durge run in BG3, big battles in Moonrise Towers to come.
I am downloading Black Ops 6, though, and I was pleased to see that the campaign and multiplayer are separate downloads, as I only really want to play the campaign.
This weekend I'll be playing more Batman: Arkham Shadow, which has been incredible so far. Easily one of the best VR games of all time. I'm also still chipping away at Pokemon Xenoverse.
Persona 3 Reload because I'm afraid it might leave gp and 2 weeks notice is not enough. Also unlike in CoD I can brag my headshot stat is 100%.
Currently on a family trip for a few days, Im surprised playing on my Portal is working as good as it is given we are far from home. Very happy with that 😃 Anyways, the games:
GRIS - finished and platinumed. Really enjoyed this game, or experience is perhaps a more fitting description as even though its a platformer of sorts its all about the journey, the amazing visuals, the soundtrack, the emoitions... I was late to this but very happy it dropped on plus so I got to play it, might have missed it otherwise!
Dead Island 2 - Im having a lot of fun with this game, and Im one or two missions from finishing the story. Sure, its not perfect and things like fighting four zombies that look exactly the same breaks the immersion totally but the game doesnt take it self to seriously so I can overlook things like that based on the most important thing for a game like this, its really fun!
Max Mustard PSVR2 Pretty much stumbled on this game and after watching a review on YT I got it. Glad I did, Im enjoying it a lot. It reminds me of playing Astro Bot Rescue Mission, but its not as good. Still, if we cant have Astro in VR (seriously Sony, shape the ***** up already) this will help fill the void!
Finished Under the waves with free play days. Nice indie game. And now of course Black ops 6 ! My first COD game since the 360 era ones and I am having a blast so far with the campaign !
@TheGiraffe I finished up avatar last weekend. It’s pretty. But in all honesty it’s just well meh.
Really disappointing and a lot of repetitive play.
I was going to try Black OPs 6 since it’s on game pass.
Downloaded, installed, then it wouldn’t let me play a single player campaign without making an Activision account.
So, that got uninstalled.
This weekend, I am still locked into my SMTVV playthrough.
I'm nearing the end of the Canon of Vengeance route though so that's something.
Don't think I'll have time for any other game this weekend but might at least be able to squeeze in some Fear 3 tomorrow when a friend comes over(we started playing it in splitscreen like...two weeks ago).
The only CoD games I played were the 2003 and 2005 releases, so it's been a long time. I started BO6 campaign yesterday, it's good fun for now. I'll just finish it and uninstall this whole CoD platform thing.
Then go back to Brothers, or Inscryption.
Or buy Divinity 2, since I got my last BG3 (<3) achievement a few days ago.
@user0 I was also going to rage quit this mess when I saw the login screen, then I figured since MS bought Activision we'll likely see this a few times, so I did it. They don't ask much, only email and password.
The game (campaign) is worth these few clicks honestly.
Black ops pure and simple just wish that replacer dude was real can't jump on till tonight ðŸ˜
Yep, Black Ops 6. What a game and although I’ve always been a fair weather COD player, I am loving this, especially the batsh1t crazy Zombies mode!!
And since the games release , it’s seems that Xbox is no longer dead or dying….. who knew eh @FraserG
@RamiBalek
You do you.
There’s just no valid justification for the requirement. I won’t be creating accounts for single player games ever.
Seems I’ve reached my old man yells at modern world phase.
^^ Fair enough. The king of 2024 FPSs is coming out in a month anyway, let's hope the process is smoother.
This weekend I'm playing:
During this week I've finished:
@redgrave0 lol 🤣🤣🤣 great stat man.
Besides that, I've loved P3R but the DLC was a little bit disappointing
Gonna get back on track with Classified France '44...I got caught up in Jurassic World Evolution 2, and how to make money with amenities 😂
Plants vs. Zombies (Android) - Starting the rooftop levels.
Wordament: Snap Attack (Android) - Playing an offline workaround build.
Free Slots Fun Factory (Windows Phone) - Still watching YT vids on this.
Slowly working through BO6 campaign. May try Zombies or MP just to check them out. I've finished the first 2 campaign missions so far. Also working through the FF Pixel Remasters. I've 100% FFI and FFIV, working through FFVI now.
Hopefully a couple more hours of DAI - I think I’ve wrapped up Western Approach.
Dipped into Fallout 4 last night. Mechanics haven’t aged well compared to similar games of that time. I kind of like it but don’t know how much more I’ll invest in it.
Don't have any interest in COD, but I'll be starting assassin's creed mirage after grabbing it cheap in my local Asda
I’ve gotta try the new Astro Bot level. I’m going to play some Mario Party Jamboree for sure and possibly Silent Hill 2 tonight since the wife will be out with a friend. We were originally going to play that one together, but she hated it and said it was boring and confusing early on, so together gaming waits for Life is Strange, I suppose. I dunno, I think it’s solid, if not blowing me away as much as I thought it would. I’ve got a lot of Trick or Treating in the meantime with the kids in two different neighborhoods this weekend. One today, one tomorrow.
And I’ll admit it, I’m more curious about Black Ops 6 than I’ve been for a CoD game in a long while. Maybe I will get Gamepass for it. I dunno. I’m waiting for more reviews still.
@Retrokingdan Mirage is a very tightly put together AC game IMO. Baghdad and surrounding desert areas are incredibly atmospheric. Parkour is sticky - in a good way - a lot of the time (just hold down one of the buttons IIR). Quest markers and knowing what to look for can be a PITA, and frustrated me the most.
I finally got to sit down and sink a few hours into Metaphor, that game is fantastic. I also fired up the new CoD on Game Pass, I played the first mission, enjoyed it, then immediately went back to Metaphor.
@redgrave0 best/most underrated comment on this thread
@gravelmonkey so far it does remind me a lot of the original assassins creed, which isn't bad, I got far too fatigued with the newer ones
I did just finish Ash Vs Evil Dead last night and that last stage was tough as nails. I'm trying to decide if I want to try out the Halloween game now on RetroRealm arcade.
Assassin's Creed Ezio Collection Brotherhood - Finish Da Vinci levels and Bee Simulator. Then work on the achievements before AC Revelations
Borderlands 2. Mindless and grindy is sometimes the prescription.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna - I just finished the DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 1 (Future Redeemed) and re-watched about 7 hours of cutscenes from XC2 (which is far faster than replaying a 100+ hour JRPG) now i'm onto the XC2 DLC Torna. I want to play Xenoblade Chronicles 3 this year if possible, which I bought at launch, but might need a few palate cleansers after all this. I love this series.
Also replayed Metroid Prime, what a brilliant remaster and hard mode makes the game tough again, each save point is almost like finding a Dark Souls bonfire. Sweet relief.
Lastly finished The Plucky Squire which I was really looking forward to. It was OK. Didn't quite deliver on the promise of the trailers but I enjoyed it regardless. Just felt it could have been a lot better too. .
Black Ops 6 (Series X) Well since it's on Gamepass I figure I try the MP. I am not expecting much since the last few years of CoD have been a garbage. I have also prefered the Black Ops series over the MW series so there's that but I am still not hoping for much.
World of Warcraft (PC) The 20th anniversary is upon us and there is a bunch of stuff to do at the festival. I am working on getting the Judgement armor set so there's that. I also started a new character through the Shadowlands campaign which isn't bad but it just makes me want to play Diablo.
Titanic the Board Game (Tabletop) I recently received this as a birthday gift and will be looking to crack this open with the family tonight.
Pushing through Lies Of P. Fantastic game, but only on chapter 5 so far (out of 11 I think). I have tried out a few weapons but honestly I am still sticking with my starter weapon and I keep pumping upgrades into it. It's worked well so far but hoping it doesn't bite me in the ass later.
I just bought RE 4 remake and Aliens: dark descent. For me october is all about horror games
Backlog continues to grow (not COD) as i work through chronic finger pain issues. If I was playing anything it'd likely be Metaphor, I really loved that demo after never playing a Persona game.
@ChrisR89 I completed Aliens Dark Descent some months ago. Want this spoiler tip 😂? Game is pretty tough until you realize this 😂
When you pull up your weapons menu, you go into a slow motion state. Choose your action, drop the menu and continue.
The key, in tough situations, such as waves of Xenos, corridor sections, and alerting them to you, is to STAY in the slow motion state 😂. Don't pull the menu down.
The AI is disoriented, and a lot less tough in slow motion state 😂. Also, equip ALL of your men with Sentry Guns. This ties into the slow motion mode, stay with me 😂
Xeno are alerted/bum rush-the SECOND you accidently alert them, pull up the action menu to go into slow motion. RUN, in slow motion, to a strategic corner, you get some distance from the chasing Xenos. At the right spot, a corner where they can only come from your front, unpack ALL 4-5 of your sentry guns(slow mo), like a wall in front of you, aim them in the direction of the Xenos! Pull the menu down to go back into normal speed 😂😂! You essentially have the overwhelming firepower of TEN men, with the sentrys and will MOW down the Xenos, until you go back into "undetected" 😂. You'll get the hang of this, and do it in ONE motion! Throw a grenade launcher is there, a shotgun blast...its like the slow mo from the Dredd 3D movie 😂
Youre hiding in a safe room, you go out in the corridor, the Xeno detects you. Slo mo RUN back to the room! You now have a spot where you can ambush them. Set up the 5 sentrys, aiming them at the door 😂. Your 5 men stand behind them, with whatever weapons they have. Trust me, in slow motion, you'll have time to do all this! The Xenos come through the door, barrage, bye-bye
Corridor-run through the corridor in slow motion, firing grenades and making flamethrower barriers behind you.
Get through room of enemies-I kid you not 😂...in slow motion, I was able to run to the back of the room, past THIRTY disoriented AI cultists, get to a strategic spot, unpack the sentrys, turn slo mo off and slaughter them 😂
The final boss has to chase you through corridors...okay 😂? The big swarm at the APC before the boss fight? Slow mo all the way!
@DEATH2SONY Thanks for the ultimate guide 😀.
I just read a few reviews and watched like 10 min gameplay and that was enough for me to buy it. I love the Aliens franchise and the tactical xcom like games an a 1-10 scale how hard is the game?

@PsBoxSwitchOwner
Yeah a visual stunner, but all those random 'main mission' radio calls to hit XYZ RDA outpost got tiring.
Story DLC 1 was more of the same, but the Great Games stuff was different.
I have the deluxe version so am going to try DLC 2 later also.
I knew everyone was gonna be cool and say they playing other games. Or no black ops for me. Or black ops 4 or whichever number. Yeah. My ass. Especially since it’s on gamepass. Not saying all. But I’m saying over half are playing it. Bunch of cool people lol.
@Bleacdemon hot take but black ops 4 has the best call of duty gameplay & should have had better recognition for it. It’s peak COD gameplay/gunplay wise , the movement/shooting etc is all excellent . people really sleep on it , it’s crazy
@nomither6 I really like the multiplayer gameplay. It feels very natural. I like the new omnimovent and gun gameplay feels great.
Dealing with a bad toothache, so been playing a lot of Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life. Thinking of starting over, but I recently started Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, so not sure if I want two startups going at once.
B.O. 6 of course. Great campaign. Just got greater because I somehow have over a trillion dollars in the game.
I'll eventually get to this CoD.. my backlog is growing miles wider every time I turn around. I still need to finish CoD3, picked that up in June!
Black Ops 6 campaign it pretty good and FC 25 💚💚💚 happy gaming everyone
Well here we go with another superb WAYP. Been an absolutely amazing and superb week around here. Most of the week was just the usual games like Dawntrail and Metaphor. Similar plots funny enough and easily two strong GOTY contenders. Didn’t game much this weekend outside of some Dawntrail but that’s because I had yet again one of the absolute best days ever going to the city to see Friday Night SMACKDOWN in Brooklyn. Got some cool shirts from the merch shop and got to see 2 showings as it was a double taping and just had the coolest time. Played some Mario Party Jamboree too and man that game is superb it’s a lot of fun and super charming and I’d dare say best of the Mario Party games. Thinking the rest of the weekend will be some more Zelda and I’m thinking Call of Duty Black Ops 6.Yeah I think I’ll crack into the campaign as I’ve been really excited and interested in it. Otherwise I’m thinking this week is mostly gonna consist of some Ace Attorney, Trails Through Daybreak, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Paper Mario, Bakeru, Dawntrail, Astro Bot, Emio, Star Wars Outlaws, Silent Hill 2, DB Sparking, Metaphor and Visions of Mana.Think on my day off I’m gonna crack into YS X as yes I finally got to buy that and it is absolutely hype. Also got Halloween this week and I’m celebrating in style with some Alan Wake 2 The Lake House leading into Halloween, setting up some scares for trick or treaters and after that a little Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered for Halloween night as my special Halloween game I do every year. And also at some point getting around to watching NXT Halloween Havoc. Only other wrestling thing this week is short and simple. WWE Crown Jewel is coming up and honestly it’s looking kinda hype we got like a possible 7 card set up including some cool matches like a 4 way woman’s tag team match or Seth Freaking Rollins versus Big Bronson Reed. Anime of the week gotta go to Dandadan. Yep just one anime this week because of the SMACKDOWN showing since it was so late to get home. Podcasts of this week gotta go to Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind, Nextlander, Cultaholic Wrestling, Weapon Wheel, Aetheryte Radio and Remap Radio. As always yall stay safe, be extremely superb to each other. Have a totally superb weekend and of course Happy Gaming.
@Ryne-Gaia good lord you are B U S Y. I gotta say though as a fellow fan of FF14 and Suda51, I try to replay Shadows of the Damned every Halloween too. Nice to see someone else shares that tradition!
