Call of Duty: Vanguard, Forza Horizon 5, Just Dance 2022 - there's an extremely varied selection of new titles to enjoy this weekend. There are also some new Game Pass titles to dive into, along with Free Play Days to take advantage of.
Here's what we’re jumping into over the next few days:
Fraser Gilbert, News Editor
I'm always a fan of checking out the weekly Free Play Days games on Xbox, and I actually bought one as a result of the program last week in the form of PGA Tour 2K21. I'm not the biggest golf gamer, but I'm really enjoying my time with this one so far, and I can imagine I'll be playing plenty more rounds over the next couple of days.
Contrary to what you might think, I don't personally have access to Forza Horizon 5 yet, so that'll have to wait until Tuesday. Instead, the rest of my time will likely be spent preparing for the GTA Trilogy with GTA 4's Lost and Damned DLC, which I finally bought for the first time a few days ago. I can't believe it's taken this long.
Have a good weekend, folks!
Daniel Hollis, News Reporter
After last weekend being filled with spooks and ghouls, I'm taking things down a notch. Mainly, I'll be checking out the Call of Duty: Vanguard campaign. I'm a sucker for the blockbuster action each Call of Duty title delivers, so binging the campaign like an action-packed Netflix show is definitely on the cards.
Alternatively, the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update and expansion is out on Nintendo Switch, which means I'll be spending every other spare moment embracing all the new content. It's been a long time coming, but I'm excited to get back into one of 2020's best games.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Will be playing Quantum Break on Xbox One and Final Fantasy 7 on Vita. Absolutely loving both of these games. I'm actually surprised at how in-depth the story of Quantum Break is. Not only are there collectibles where you can read more about the interactions between other characters, but you can also watch a TV show along with playing the game in order to learn more about what the other characters were doing and it's done surprisingly really well. It's definitely the most ambitious Remedy game I've played so far, I'm really enjoying it!
I finished BioShock Infinite last night. Really enjoyed it. Not playing anything this weekend. Looking forward to GTA SA and FH5 next week on gamepass.
Forza. Nothing else will be on my tv for at least the next 36 hours, it's just brilliant!
Forza Horizon 5
Waiting for football manager, GTA and Forza ..oh and also battlefield trial...
@LtSarge
Quantum Break is my favourite Remedy game. Loved it.
@Chaudy
Same. Waiting to get sucked into both next week.
For the time being I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 (2nd playthrough) and loving it.
Animal crossing happy home paradise on switch. Enjoying it lot so far. Put a lot of hours into it yesterday.
Psychonauts on xbox series X. Fun game but mainly playing it to play the sequel after.
Nothing on ps5 this weekend, tho the VR ps+ games do interest me.
Call of Duty after worlds for League of Legends finishes.
Nothing but Forza for me, for a while I think. All the content that was added post launch to FH4 is in the game from the start here. Honestly don't know what they will add next.
Forza Horizon 5!!! And I'll replay the Manchester Derby in FIFA 22🔥
Forza Horizon 5 and a little bit of Hades. Also thinking about trying out Unpacking.
Series S: I'm saying goodbye to Forza 4 this weekend.
Switch: My S/O is hooked on Pokemon again so i wont be playing any games on that system in a while. Lol.
PS5: Death Stranding DC. Going for plat. 💪
Vanguard campaign only, interspersed with Forza Horizon 5, and Gears 5 Horde mode with my mate. Yet another busy weekend...!
I'm on the last chapter of lost judgement 😀 then I'm gonna play some backbone and the good life until Forza comes out
Forza Horizon 5. I’m afraid all the games I was playing - Far Cry 6, Riders Republic, and Guardians of the Galaxy - have all been put on the back burner for the time being!
Needless to say, FH5 is huge fun. Usually in racing games I opt for the 60fps option if available, but after trying out both of FH5’s performance and quality modes, I can’t believe how good the quality (30fps) mode is! It’s buttery smooth. The difference between the two modes is negligible to me, so may as well have the full graphics option. They are wizards at Playground games! 👏👏
I'm playing Halo 5. I've played two chapters so far and gotta say i have no idea why people were hating this game. Maybe it's just cuz I'm at the start but I was very surprised to actually play as the chief....i thought he wasn't playable in the game and that was a big gripe. Now i don't know what the marketing campaign was for this and as i recall people were saying it was misleading but coming into the game with negative expectations I'm very positively surprised...so far. I'll see how i feel at the end but man...it's a gorgeous and fun game so far with great cinematics between chapters.
Yet more evidence that the best review to go by is your own.
Vanguard and saving money for the inevitable digital sales that’ll hit us in the next 2 weeks
Forza Horizon 5 non-stop. Brilliant game. I’ll be playing it in my dreams too. 😃
Q) What Xbox games are you playing this weekend?
A) I will be playing Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water. I haven't been able to progress too far into the game due to my new job and it's better to play a horror game in the dead of night. This means only one or two levels before bed but boy does it go well with the atmosphere of the game to play it in the dark.
Forza Horizon 5 of course!
Forza Horizon and Riders Republic for me, but mostly Forza right now as it's new and I have a lot to do.
Its going to be Call.of Duty Vanguard and Forza Horizon 3 for me this weekend.
I'm just over halfway through the Avengers campaign and am enjoying it at least enough to continue.
Playing some more Back 4 Blood tonight with the guys.
Forza Horizon 5 and Project Wingman.
@Nightcrawler71
Yep, I'm playing Forza Horizon 5 at 30fps.
The 60 FPS looks very bright and sharp (just like FH4 on XSX), which is fine.
But the 30FPS mode seems to have a beautiful and very filmic quality to it that I'm just LOVING (and the playability doesn't seem degraded from the 60 FPS mode).
Thought I was gonna go 60fps, but having tried both I think 30 (quality mode) wins hands down... I appreciate others may feel differently though and that's all cool.
Well I should have continued playing Immortal Fenyx Rising when I got back from vacation recently however I’ve been seriously addicted to Forza Horizon 4. I tried it a long while back and wrote it off pretty much immediately but I came back for those added MS rewards points and can’t seem to stop. I can’t even fathom starting the new one yet because there’s so much to do in 4! I saw that I can get the ultimate dlc pack on 4 any thoughts on if it’s worth it?
Mahjong by Microsoft (Droid) - Daily challenges and puzzle packs.
Bad Piggies (Windows Phone) - This is a fun take on Angry Birds so far.
Burn the Rope (Windows Phone) - Love slow puzzle games.
Forza Horizon 5 - I know I'd really like it, but it's actually blown me away, was worried is find it a bit samey after so much time on 4 but completely wrong so far.
GOTG - man, I love this game so much - actually think it's my favourite release this year so far. Refreshingly simple & relatively linear romp that I can just enjoy a bit of escapism with.
@LtSarge I agree I really enjoyed that game. I actually liked it better than Control.
I'm finishing my Gears 5 run ! I'm playing throught the campaign for the first time and I'm loving it ! But I have to finish it before Forza release, argh !
I tried Unpacking, too. Very cool and relaxing experience.
@LtSarge Yeah, Quantum Break is definitely one of my favorites games of last gen. One of its biggest qualities, in my opinion, is the way its story is so cleverly handling the time travel concept.
I've read countless books about this subject, seen countless movies, too. Cause I love this thematic, and I love this kind of science-fiction stories. But everytime, and I mean everytime, from a scientific point of view, it just doesn't work.
But here, you can tell the scenarists have really studied their subject : by introducing the notion of "chronons", which is a very special representation of time itself, and by establishing right away that no one can go back further than the day the actual time machine was invented. A lot of pretty common paradoxes in time travel stories are just dealt, here, with these two simple facts. It is brillant, pure and simple.
I really loved that game.
@antstephenson @Nightcrawler71 Glad to see that I'm not the only one who'll play in quality mode !
From what I've seen on video, so far, there's something very special about this mode, here. Something very cinematic, I don't know. When the performance mode is just looking like... well, a videogame. A pretty good one, but a videogame anyway.
The quality mode just looks out of this world, in this game !
Guardians of the Galaxy. Excellent game!!
Halo Wars 2 apparently. I had been playing that, but stopped about a week ago because of was stuck on the Hold the Line mission. Played Kena on my PS5 earlier, but had a bit of extra time and didn't want to load that back up for only a half an hour, so I gave the mission another chance and finally beat it.
@Bobobiwan @antstephenson @Nightcrawler71 But does it make that much difference on an HD TV? It's been almost a year and I have yet to plug my Series X into a 4K TV. Probably around Christmas it will be moved but in the meantime I guess performance over quality all day long without 4K?
@Enigk
Personally I would still go with quality, because the 30fps gives a terrific filmic/cinematic aesthetic that looks brilliant in FH5... and the play is so smooth you don't feel like it's a performance downgrade... but try both and see what you prefer.
Assetto Corsa Competizione on Series X, Tetris Connected, NBA Jam On Fire Edition, Star Wars Battlefront II ...
Just got a Series S this weekend. Haven't played my Xbox One in about 5 years so I've a lot of catching up to do. Not sure where to start but thinking of jumping into Gears 5.
@blockfight Have a S also and love it. Enjoy your new purchase.
Been playing more RE Village this weekend. Also some Mario on the Switch.
Forza Horizon 5.
But just another shout out to everyone to give UNPACKING a go, it's really great. Didn't think it would be my cup of tea... but how wrong I was. Memorable.
I'm playing a whole bunch of Animal Crossing..
@StylesT Football Manager 2022 (Windows) has been out a few weeks now. I've been playing it ages, just waiting for the Xbox Edition as well.
@Mamabear not sure about the rest of the DLC but I had a really good time with the island dlc pack. Pretty easy 10 million credits too
@themightyant I fired it up last night to see if I could get a quick Daily Achievement out of the way (I did) and was blown away by how charming the game is. Thoroughly enjoyed putting away my toys and books in the first puzzle. Gonna go through this one slow and savor it.
@blockfight just bought my 2nd Series S on Friday, for my boy. They are wonderful little machines! Congrats!
@Bobobiwan usually the difference between 30fps/60fps in racing games is night and day, but here the 30fps “quality mode” is so good you won’t know which one to use! After trying both out I’ve been using quality mode.
@Dusk_Actual @SpecialT I actually got it for free which makes it all the sweeter. Was contemplating buying one for so long and then I get a free one. Can't wait to dive into all the games I've missed these last few years.
@Dusk_Actual Glad you are enjoying Unpacking. It's a wonderful and unique title, that basically sounds terrible on paper, and is easy to miss with big hitters like FH5, and soon Halo added to the service.
But it's genuinely one of my favourite gaming experiences this year. Short, simple and sweet but with a very clever hook. While it won't be for everyone, I think it may surprise many if they just give it a go - you have nothing to lose on Game Pass.
