Welcome to the first weekend of June! There's plenty to enjoy on Xbox over the next couple of days, including a bunch of recent Xbox Game Pass titles, some Free Play Days offerings, and lots of great deals on the Xbox Store!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
It's all about Baldur's Gate 3 for me at the moment. I started getting back into it properly again last weekend, and now I'm hooked and really looking forward to the adventure ahead. It's one of those games that I wouldn't usually be enticed by, but BG3 feels like it's in a league of its own... a truly special game that I'm going to savour!
Elsewhere, my Football Manager addiction has kicked back in again - so if I suddenly disappear from Pure Xbox, you'll know why! It's the kind of game that I could play for 24 hours straight without barely noticing the time...
Have a good weekend, folks!

This weekend I’m planning on revisiting the Gears 5 campaign with some friends (if I can wrangle any of ‘em up). I just think now might be the time to…y’know, remind myself of some things. But mainly because I’ve been craving a blasting locust to bits gnasher in hand. Might even take Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for a spin on the ASUS ROG Ally too. Craig just wants his Gears fix I think.
Outside of this I’ll no doubt spend some time sweating it in XDefiant casual lobbies. The achievements were fairly easy to get so far. The only two I’m missing now are the level 50 ones, then I’ll have another cheeky 1000 gamerscore banked. Nice!
And finally, when I’m not feeling all ‘shooty-shooty’ I’ll be tucking into the retro spooky vibes of Crow Country. I blame PJ for this one, he talked it up and now I’m having a good time with it. Your fault PJ, your fault.
Happy gaming, folks!

Maybe I’ll finally actually play Banishers this week. I’m caught up on the backlog, so technically that’s all that’s left for me on my to-play list til Erdtree (unless I decide to get Still Wakes the Deep or we get some Summer Game Fest surprises).
I’ve been fluffing about in Elden Ring mostly, regaining my skill, but the stuff I skipped is stuff I’m not able to beat. Lol. I was Elden Lord long ago, but now… Man, I can’t beat Commander Niall… Was I that dependent on others to help me through the game? Yesterday I was having a great time clearing Farum Azula though. Really fun area to practice in.
I might watch my son play Hauntii for a while. He quite likes that one.
On Xbox: Mainly Red Dead Redemption, I'm getting closer to being done with the Mexico chapter thank god, 99% of it has felt like padding for the sake of padding.
On Switch: I dunno to be honest.
On PS5: I started playing Rise of the Ronin "for real" and man, it feels great.
I'm already liking this one a lot more than Team Ninja's previous games(Nioh 2 still great tho).
I'm playing Sand Land, which I'm really enjoying about 5 hours in. I'll also be playing some Halo MCC campaigns co-op with my nephew, which is always a good time.
Hellblade 2 - finished the game, really enjoyed it even if some parts were a bit weak perhaps. Looks absolutely gorgeous, sound is top notch and I liked the story even if it wasnt as good as in the first game imo. Basically though, you have to enjoy this type of game to find Hellblade 1&2 any good, but if you do you´re in for a treat!
Viewfinder - picked it up in the sale, been om my wishlist for a while. I´m only on level 2 but this is a fantastic puzzler imo. Really clever use of photos and perspective when solving the levels which makes it unique and very fun to play.
Tales of Kenzera – ZAU - Pretty good platformer, enjoying it and a nice break from other games.
Destiny 2 – waiting for The Final Shape, want to finish the story which I hope is really good and conclusive and then leave Destiny behind again with some sweet final memories. Meanwhile Im enjoying the PVP a lot more than I thought, especially Trials of Osiris which is great fun. Tried some raids but my GOD I dont have the patience nor time for that ***** anymore. That said, the gameplay is still some of the best ever, if not the best. Too bad they ***** a lot of the other stuff up.
I made a start on Chants of Sennaar but I have to say I’m struggling to get anywhere with it, so mostly just messing about in Fallout 4.
Final Fantasy XIII that is 4K on Series X and that I'm loving.
Humanity has been a good quirky laugh. So I’ll mostly be playing that when I get a chance.
The last few weeks have to produced little to no gaming for me as I've been way to occupied with real life!
Had a couple of family birthdays, a stag do and I got married after a 6 year engagement!
Now that life has settled down again I've got my self a list of games to look at throughout June
Open roads
Dordogne
Somerville
UFC 4
Ghost recon wildlands
Turbo golf racing
Jedi fallen order
Botany Manor
Inside
Contrast
Happy gaming everyone 👍👍
On Steam Deck I fired up my favorite game of all time, Nier Automata. Besides that, my son and I jumped into Hypercharge Unboxed and I’m continuing my journey through Stellar Blade.
xDefiant and Skull and Bones free2play.
Might be AAAA but I'm pleased I'm playing for £0!
@The-Grezzly-Bear Congratulations! 🙂
I enjoyed Open Roads - don’t expect a challenge, but I liked the story. Botany Manor is also very good.
I’m playing sand land and having a lot of fun.
10-Yard Fight (NES) - With CFL starting up again, I figured I'd play a few games of this today.
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (Windows Phone) - At the end of this now.
Paper Mario TTYD and Evil West/ Fallout 4 on xbox. Can't decide what smaller title to play in my backlog. I tried out Gimmick Special Edition but I did not like the slow combat mixed with the fast enemies. So I might give kudzu a shot from the backlog, or buy tiny thor.
Continuing Jedi Survivor, and really liking it. Maybe some matches of XDefiant as well.
Earlier this week I beat Animal Well, which was amazing. If you were considering it, I would highly recommend going in as blind as possible and seeing what it has to offer for yourself. You won't be disappointed. It embodies the refresh the metroidvania genre needed.
I also went to an arcade a few days ago and played through the entirety of Luigi's Mansion Arcade for the first time. The machine itself was a little inconsistent with tracking the reticle, but it was still a blast. Took maybe 30 minutes or so and I spent about $12 on credits to get from start to finish. The arcade also had Mario Kart GP, but I didn't get to play it there. However, I found "alternate means" of playing that, and have been racing through Mario Kart GP 2. I didn't realize the cups are just the same track 4 times in a row with slight differences like rain, or item limitations, or the items are in a different spot, or the track bends left instead of right and maybe there's a "new" aspect to it like a bridge instead of a tunnel, etc. So there are technically 32 tracks, but really there are only 8 tracks and they just change sometimes. Some of the items are interesting though, like the black shell, which explodes like a bomb when it hits something. I think that might be the only instance of a black shell in the Mario universe. There are actually a ton of items that are not in the main series of Mario Kart games. Some of the more interesting examples are tacks that flatten your tires and make your kart veer off to one side, and other more imaginative items that will lock your steering wheel, or prevent you from jumping, or make your tires square. There's a lot more than that too. Kinda neat, and way more creative than the track design is.
Last night the guys and I played a few rounds of Helldivers 2 which is fun, but I personally don't find it to be the masterpiece that other people seem to think it is. It's pretty repetitive and I'm not a big fan of some of the mechanics such as how reloading works or the way it forces you to buy things you don't want in order to unlock the possibility of buying something you do want. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, and good, just not a "great" game in my opinion.
Also still chipping away at Warhammer 40k: Boltgun and Mortal Kombat 9.
Dragon’s Dogma 2. My maxed out Thief and trusty Sorcerer, Schemer, have just reached Battahl. I sneaked in by pretending to be a slave on a phantom oxcart. It was a good time. And now we are on the hunt for a Medusa’s head in order to petrify a griffin for a sculptor. This game is an all-timer for me.
There's a few metroidvanias in my backlog so I tried starting The Last Case of Benedict Fox but it crashed on me. I uninstalled and installed again but while I was doing that I said "well, I'll try F.I.S.T" and man I got hooked. Really, really good. Thanks, Game Pass
I'll probably continue with Jedi Survivor too.
Brotato is my quick fix when I gave only a bit of time to play … Assassin Creed, the big con and many others started but not completed…
Yep, Lords of the Fallen. This is the most Soulslike of any Soulslike I've ever played but I'm quite enjoying it despite it being so derivative. So far I would say it's my 2nd favorite non Fromsoft soulslike, behind the Remnant games. The graphics/environments are breathtaking and live up to its inspiration. There is some slight framerate issues in transition areas but definitely better than ER at launch (I have a VRR display). I played Dark Souls on 360, what we nitpick has changed a lot over the years. Blighttown's slideshow still haunts me.
Went back to Redfall after the last update to try and work through to finish, will probably play some Street Fighter 6 and Agents of Mayhem
Finished Hi-Fi Rush and Diablo 4
Dropped Sea of Stars, Stranded Deep and Everspace 2. Sometimes trying games you're not 100% interested in can burn you out a bit.
Playing Psychonauts 2 next
Final Fantasy 14 as usual. The minecraft Realm I was on fell apart so I started a new single player world so will chip away at that in small bursts. I've been hooked on Slay the Spire the past week and bought Balatro yesterday so rotating runs on those two. Finally, will also play some Diablo 4 this weekend to continue working through Season 4.
I'm also awaiting the list of games leaving Gamepass for first half of June so all plans could change if there is something I want to jump on there.
XDefiant (Series X) Double XP weekend time to grind out some guns.
World of Warcraft (PC) About to hit level 70 with my Troll Paladin in MoP Remix. Never thought I would enjoy playing a Paladin so much.
I'm on an MW spree: MW3 and Cold War. I'm also running some Cyberpunk and Back 4 Blood.
Taken 7 months but Startield has finally sunk its teeth into me. The symbols on the minimap is such a worthwhile, simple quality of life improvement that makes a not hugely intuitive game that bit more welcoming and easy to find your way around.
Little Kitty, Big City of course! That is all.
Completed Cocoon yesterday which I found pretty interesting. Now, going back in time and giving Blinx a try. Also, finishing up Coffee talk 2

@somnambulance Elden Ring IT IS!!!! Btw, funny thing Im just trying to beat that boss. I know it's quite easy one but annoying.
Im gonna go for Elden Ring and after I have died something like 56 times I'll continue My earthly agony with Snowrunner, The slouls game with wheels.
@Jenkinss I allso like remanants and lords of The fallen. For some reason I still went Back to Elden Ring. Got frustrated I guess..
@The-Grezzly-Bear wild lands was awesome. Maybe The best ghost Recon game I think
Online shooters are usually not my cup of tea, but I felt curious to try XDefiant and now I’m hooked!
I’m currently at player level 53. I have unlocked most of the Battle Pass, as well as all characters except one of the Echelon guys, and every weapon except a shotgun and a marksman rifle.
Also playing some retro games on my Miyoo Mini+, after finally getting around to installing OnionOS on it.
@Fishysensei Dude, that is my favorite Switch game!!!
@Mirwais I will be back on June 21
Is XDefiant worth trying on X? I've read a lot of complaints about PC players having a steep advantage in crossplay
Lords of the Fallen has me smitten. Ive played and enjoyed dozens of soulslikes. Only elden ring, bloodborne, and ds3 are better than this imo.
Plays so smooth. World is grand and it pays aesthetic homage while adding a huge dose of its own identity with unique mechanics and super satisfying combat. Also I've quite enjoyed every boss so far, and that consistency is worth gold to me.
I won't be playing anything else until I'm done.
I have about 15-20 hrs so far and can't wait for more.
Away this week so no game time. But left on needing last two achievements like Craig on xdefiant.. also working off dead island two… looking what to start next and will be tell tale Minecraft story or Jedi survivor
Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours on AC Valhalla last night. Think I'm going to focus on the main story and avoid the side bloat.
Well this is a bit of a late WAYP this week but you gotta forgive me it’s what occurs when you gotta deal with the state of Maryland. Yes I’m officially back home and done with vacation. That’s where I wanna start actually as I just feel really sentimental. Got a lot of cool stuff that happened over the vacation. Beat loads of games like Another Code and Princess Peach and the FFXVI DLC. Got to start cool new ones like Paper Mario. Stuff like experiencing Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261 in the midst of a brutal sunburn just absolutely destroying me making me feel like I was in the chapter will be memories for years. Getting into X-men or seeing King and Queen of the Ring equally as awesome. But really yall the thing that was the best was quality time with my stepdad on the beach. The most beautiful beach you could ever imagine. The most delicious dinners you’ve ever had. The most relaxing times you could ever imagine. I guess I’m saying all this to encourage all of yall to take a step back from games sometimes and enjoy a beautiful thing like a beach. Anyway onto the games like these things are meant for ahaha. Weekend was chill with just some Nayuta before Trails Through Daybreak and yet some more Persona 3 Reload before Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. Honestly in between going back to work this week I’m thinking this weeks gonna be kinda chill with games. Just some Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. Some Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth. Some AI:Nirvana Initiative. Some Stellar Blade. Some Sand Land. Some Star Ocean 2. Next big game I’m working on is gonna be Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and I wanna get that done before the launch of FFXIV: Dawntrail at the end of this month. Only other real plans is Furiosa on my birthday on Saturday. Oh and Summer Game Fest on Friday too ahaha. Got these excellent Japan only Monster Hunter Stories amiibos too they’re absolutely beautiful. Anime of the week gotta go to Kaiju No.8, The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio, Delicious in Dungeon and Urusei Yatsura of course. Simply excellent shows that always make me smile. Podcasts of this week gotta go to the usuals of Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into The Aether, RPGsites Tetracast,Minnmax, Jeff Gerstmann, Kit and Krysta, Last Stand Media, Easy Allies, Second Wind and Cultaholic Wrestling. And of course we wouldn’t be quite done without a big amazing shoutout to my dear friend over at twitch,tv/akibread and their superb streams please give them a watch. As we head into the Summer Game Fest streams by all these different companies I gotta admit I’m pretty dang excited. Oh and Happy Pride to all. But as always yall stay safe, be kind to each other, have a excellent week and weekend and Happy Gaming.
