The weekend begins! In addition to Avowed's early access release which is already live, there's plenty to discover on Xbox right now including a bunch of Free Play Days titles, loads of great deals, and a new Game Pass addition!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I gave myself permission to dig into Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 when I was feeling sorry for myself with the flu last weekend, and discovered that I like it more than I'd anticipated! The hype and the great reviews caught my interest initially, but I really wasn't sure it'd be my kind of game - fortunately, it is! I look forward to playing more this weekend.
Beyond that, it's just going to be Football Manager 2024 on PC Game Pass to be honest. Yes, it's a shame that the 25 edition just got cancelled, but I'm deep into a very addictive save in FM24, so there's no rush on my part for a sequel!
Have a good couple of days, folks.
What are you playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Starfield. I started it recently and I love it.
Avowed all day & night 🥱
I love games that reward exploration when you just do it to explore (non quest related exploration.) & this game has a lot to discover off the beaten path. It also has a lot of quest to get stuck into and while they are nothing really deep so far they are compelling enough to keep me interested.
My mage who uses a flintlock pistol, grenades and a spell book is kicking ass & taking names. Once i realised that you aren't tied to a single skill tree but can mix & match from all of them to suit your play style thing really took off. It helps that you can respec at any point so you can fine tune things as you level up & open up more options.
Running in performance mode on Series X I haven't had any issues and the game still looks great.
I am so glad I took a chance on this one as I am having a fantastic time.
Managed to get more playtime than normal this week, always nice 🤓
Sniper Elite Resistance - So, I got in a pickle after an autosave so decided to load an older save. Got in another similar situation with low health, being hunted and an autosave 😬 I realised I dont have the patience for this game as Im rushing to much. But I feel like I've shot enough Nazi balls off to happily drop it, at least for now!
Sayonara Wild Hearts - Having heard so much good about it I had to play it. And wow, what an experience! Its hard to explain what the game is, rytmn mixed with schmup with very cool graphics and a great soundtrack perhaps. Its also short, if you like great but different games I really recommend you give it a try 😀
Warhammer 40k Space Marines 2 - I wanted to play a game with a short enough campaign that I would be able to finish it before Avowed and there was a sale for this 🙂 Having played the trial I knew it was good but damn, I've really been enjoying this. It looks and plays really great and is just so much fun to play imo. I've finished the campaign but I need more! Thankfully theres operations and multiplayer 😀
@Banjo-
Same. I played it at launch on PC and put 70 hours+ into the game. Liked it a lot, but kind of lost interest in the main plot and it kept giving me headaches performance-wise on PC. This time I’m enjoying the game more as it works and looks beautifully on XSX (quality mode in 40 fps rocks) and it’s the best game out there for people who just like to get lost in space exploration.
On PS5 I'll be playing some Dying Light 2 co-op with a mate and maybe some High On Life. On Xbox I'm trying to finish Sniper Elite Resistance and Far Cry New Dawn before Avowed on Tuesday. I've also still got to finish Visions of Mana but got really bored about halfway through and I've not went back for a couple weeks.
I’m getting myself ready for Avowed with some Pillars of Eternity 2. I finally got the new gaming PC I have spent years saving up for and can’t wait to flex its muscles with a big old RPG next week.
Starfield and Forza Horizon 3 for me. Managed to finish Alan Wake 2 on PS5 but started to feel like I was forcing myself to play towards the end of the game.
Oh and I’m close to the end of Act 2 in Gears of War, playing it in coop with a buddy and boy is it fun!
I’m off work now until Tuesday, so plan on spending the next 3 days devouring Avowed! Fun combat and the game rewards exploration. Also love the fact that you’re not class-locked, so can mix’n’match weapons, and can even do the same in the skill and ability trees, letting you spend points in any of the fighter, ranger or wizard trees. The game also has a lot of quality of life touches, like sending anything in your inventory straight to your stash, no matter where you are, or being able to fast travel to any unlocked FT point, again, from no matter where you are. Great stuff.
Only other game I’ll be playing is Ender Magnolia, which though hard at times, is great fun. Have just unlocked the swim ability, so plenty of areas to return to now!
@gollumb82 The first 10 hours are probably supposed to be a tutorial, but you have to learn many of the mechanics through trial and error which would be my only complaint. It was a boring and frustrating experience at first. After getting the hang of it, I started to care about the worlds and characters, and found myself travelling and enjoying the gameplay and space exploration, playing at my own pace and doing what I feel like doing, like I did when I played Skyrim, also on Series X. Starfield looks absolutely amazing here and performance outside big cities like New Atlantis is fine.
Forza Horizon 3 is the first Forza game I played and still is one of my favourites, I only wish it got FPS Boost. Gears of War is incredible, especially the classics. I'm looking forward to E-Day as some kind of reboot.
@RiverGenie @Nightcrawler71 Glad you're enjoying Avowed already and thanks for sharing your early impressions with us!
Son over this weekend. So probably not much, but the rest will do me good.
I'm 30 hours into The Division 2, Amazing game.
@Banjo-
I didn’t really mind the tutorial tbh. Guess it had to do with me trying to buy into PC gaming and I spent a lot of time just trying to get the settings right. Glad I got rid of that PC a year ago.
As for Forza Horizon, I have played the whole series now and FH4 is my favourite, but I like all of them (okay, FH5 the least but the rally add-on saved it for me). I hope we will hear something about FH6 soon.
Yeah, GoW is something I missed out on since I had a PS3 when it had its glory days. The Ultimate remaster plays and looks great so I’m looking forward to finishing it and then prolly play the whole series.
I'll be on Forza horizon to keep the reward streak going I have the Elden Ring nightreign beta so I'll play a bit of that while I can only played one game it's fast paced and fun can't wait to play more and Im playing Hogwarts aswell!
Happy weekend peoples 👍
I started Drova Forsaken Kin on my Steam Deck this week. It’s such an incredible game, the combat is fun, I love the leveling system, the world is well thought out, it’s gorgeous, the story is intriguing, and it has some pretty good humor (looking at you dog that stole my meat while I was petting you). I highly recommend it if you enjoy tough RPGs.
Civ 7. It's going to be hard to pull myself away from it for Avowed when gamepass users are finally granted access to it.
Happy to play some Indiana Jones, great game, I just need to take it in smaller chunks to avoid illness.
Looking forward to trying Avowed next week, looks great!
On PS5 it's Atlus Fallen, I'm very early but it seems impressive so far..
If we fire up the switch it's likely to be one of those ' Artifex Mundi' games, a guilty pleasure playing together with my wife on a chilled Sunday afternoon.
Whatever you are playing this weekend, I hope you have fun...
Slay the Princess on Steam. Cleaning up the various achievements. Such a neat, creative experience.
@gollumb82 Forza Horizon 4 is fantastic, but I haven't played 5 as much. Ultimate is also the version of Gears of War I played. I have played the whole series on Xbox One (X, maybe), but before they supported FPS Boost, so you'll get that! One of the reason I haven't considered PC as a substitute for Xbox is those features and backwards compatibility.
Metaphor Refantazio but also the Nightreign beta and the Monster Hunter beta.
I've managed to finish Tales of Arise yesterday and it was my first game of the 'Tales Of' series. I've loved the story and the combat although it's a little bit repetitive.
Now I'll have to choose what to play this weekend before Avowed comes to Gamepass.
I've been playing Shady Part of Me on Game Pass. Excellent puzzle game (albeit with terrible voice acting). I'm near the end I think now and I've really enjoyed it.
Working my way through Assassin's Creed Valhalla, easily the longest game I've EVER played.
Slowly going on with Shady part of me,the voice works strangely annoying and I'm not sure I'm enjoying the puzzles,I'll finish it eventually
Still grinding on Siege and Blops6.
May start Avowed when it's ready for us peasants
This weekend I'm most likely going to continue to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout/Tales of Graces f Remastered, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 and Balatro.
Finished Evil West yesterday, so I'll be continuing with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
I almost always have multiple games going but right now it’s avowed and only avowed
I'm hoping to finish Indiana Jones and the Great Circle this weekend, I'm up to what I believe is the last mission now so just trying to get extra ability books before I go take on the final boss.
Playing though Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, despite never watching an episode of dragon ball in my life, it's really good. Also, grinding out some achievements on 2016 Ghostbusters.
Currently running FF2 Pixel, myself.
BG3 Durge run - past the point of no return for the final showdown, but it’s beer o’clock now, so I’ll save the last battle for tomorrow. Not sure what I’ll play after that - I bought Kingdom Come 2, but I’m tempted to play a palate cleanser-type game and wait for Avowed.
Solar ash , waiting game before Avowed.
I plan on starting Wo long fallen dynasty tonight. Let's hope I can get through it before Feb 28th!!
World of Warcraft Classic (PC) Continuing the grind on my Tauren Shaman. I just hit level 25 and I am starting to feel pretty powerful lol.
The Sims (PC) Messing around mainly still trying to do a no cheat run but I am starting to get tempted to do the money code.
Indian Jones and the Great Circle (Series X) Working on Siam which I find somewhat annoying but it's mainly because the boat travel. Storywise it's still great. Just navigate this damn boat is annoying.
Madden 25 (Series X) Well now that football season is over I need something to tide me over till the UFL starts and with this being on Gamepass....
I might also play some Diablo this weekend as I have the itch too just trying to figure out which one.
Having finished Ninja Gaiden II Black a couple nights ago, I'm back to focusing on *Visions of Mana for Xbox, and WWE 2k24
On switch, still slowly working my way through DQIII HD2D
It's been a bit of slog so I might try to hammer this out as quickly as possible to move on.
Microsoft Wordament (Android) - Dailies and Adventure mode is usual.
Halo: Spartan Assault (Windows Phone) - I dare say I'm enjoying this more then normal Halo...
Microsoft Minesweeper (Windows Phone) - Still slowly making progress with this as well.
Nightreign when it works and a bit of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Marvel Rivals if I’m feeling social.
I feel like KCD2 and Marvel Rivals may be my gaming ritual for the foreseeable future (even if I’ll briefly break that ritual up for Lost Records during the week next week).
Avowed and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 this weekend! plenty to get my teeth into.
Final chapter of my Legend run on Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
Played (almost non-stop)
Literally can not be more happy
@adderblack39 thinking back I enjoyed it but it’s just too long and feel draining in the end. Will go back for dlc one day
Finished lonely mountain. Still playing Indy just finished Nepal. Do I start avowed next or hold for atomfall
GI Joe Rise of Cobra, Prince of Persia Lost Crown, Suicide Squad, MK1, Tetris 99 and various arcade game compilations
