The weekend starts here! We've got plenty of good stuff to try on Xbox over the next few days, including a few more Xbox Game Pass additions, the usual batch of Xbox Free Play Days titles, and a special XDefiant test from Ubisoft!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
Well, I've got a game I'm playing this weekend that I can't talk about, but you'll find out about it pretty soon. If I get any extra time, it'll probably be spent with NHL 24 as I'm very much in the mood for the playoffs right now! It's hard keeping track of it all when you're on UK time, but I'll be watching as many games as I can.
I've also downloaded the free Xbox demo for Penny's Big Breakaway, which immediately captured my attention when it released earlier this year. I'm hearing it's an extremely underrated game, so I'm very interested to check it out.
Have a good weekend, folks!

I'll definitely be checking back in with Ubisoft's XDefiant this weekend - the free-to-play shooter is currently undergoing a huge server stress test on Xbox that I'd like to contribute to. This one has the potential to become an FPS mainstay in the coming months and years, so I'm keen to see how it's shaping up!
Otherwise, I'll probably be playing some more Forza Horizon 3 over the weekend. I'm not sure why — maybe it's the sun finally peeking out in England — but I've been back to Playground's 2016 racer this past week-or-so and have been having a ball of a time with it. Off to the Outback we go!
Have a great weekend!
Craig Reid, Video Producer
No point beating around the bush here, I’m fully invested in the Fallout universe right now. I recently started Fallout: New Vegas for the first time and I’m keen to crack on with that. But boy, oh boy am I busy this weekend.
I’ll be head down at my desk for most of Saturday, working away on something for you. But, I figured when my video editing mind gets sleepy I’ll take a break to play some New Vegas, or even Fallout 4. Man, I just want to play them all. Send help.
Happy gaming, folks!
What will you be playing on Xbox this weekend? Let us know down in the comments below.

Just finished the SoLA DLC for Dead Island 2. Poor and short for the long wait. Will start Clash: Artifacts of chaos next.
Hoping that the Fallout 4 update next week finally fixes all the game breaking bugs so I can actually play it years after buying. Worth giving one last shot I suppose.
On PS5: Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
On Xbox: F.E.A.R. and possibly gonna play Tiny Tina's Wonderlands in co-op with friends.
On Switch: Most likely nothing.
On Series X I’m still playing Dragons Dogma 2. Have clocked up almost 40 hours and still haven’t got to Battahl yet! Just this morning I got lost in the Misty marshes and had to use a (costly) ferrystone to teleport myself out of there 😂 I love the sense of adventure in DD2, and it’s probably my game of the year so far. On PS5 I’m playing Dave the diver which is more addictive than I anticipated. I bought Fallout 4 GOTY (on Xbox) ahead of next weeks next-gen upgrade. However, I’m thinking of doing of starting it now to get the opening section (character creation, vault stuff etc) out of the way, so when the update drops I can fully immerse myself in the open world straight away.
I’ve worked seven straight days, but I’m taking this weekend and the subsequent Monday and Tuesday off to celebrate my birthday. I won’t be playing much due to family gatherings and what-have-you, but I did manage to platinum Rise of the Ronin yesterday.
I have to retract my statement from last week — I no longer think it’s Team Ninja’s best game (but it is a great game, nonetheless). The story is extremely convoluted, and the RPG elements, particularly with dialogue choices and story decision(s) have no true meaning. With that said, I did enjoy its open world and activities. Similarly to NiOh 2, the game is way too long. I wish there was a more tighter experience, but I think this trend is going to continue on if the ending to RoTN is any indication.
As of now, I’ll either take a break from gaming until Stellar Blade releases, or I will try Dave The Diver on my PS5. With the acclaim it has received over the last year, I’m tempted to give it a try because it seems cozy and the perfect game to unwind with on my PlayStation Portal. Plus, it’s something different and that’s something I need since I essentially played 200+ hours of third person action RPGs over the course of the last three games (Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth and RoTR).
I also finished the book series Shogun by James Clavell. A part of me feels empty now — the characters and world building were so well realized that it’s difficult to think these are fictional characters. I’ve grown attached to many of the interconnected stories within, and it’s hard to let them go. It’s such an incredible story, and might go down as my favorite book(s) of all time.
Looks like Borderlands 3 to start and using Harold Halibut as a palette cleanser. HH so far feels like a standard point and click adventure but the visuals are so high end that it feels more than that. I finished SOMA before it left GP and wow that story will stick with me for awhile…
Ever since completing Rebirth and Balatro, I’ve been in a weird place with gaming. Things just haven’t clicked. I sank a good lot of time in Dragon’s Dogma, but similar to my three attempts at playing through Baldur’s Gate 3, I felt like I was going through the motions and forcing myself to play rather than having fun with it, so I’m dropping it for a while. Maybe I’ll come back someday.
My wife and one of my children is sick now too, so there’s that. We were supposed to have an event today, but it looks unlikely we’ll attend now due to the illness. Given the circumstances, I’ll likely sink into something low stakes like Dave the Diver for a little bit. If my wife wants to, perhaps some Banishers together. Otherwise, it honestly sort of feels like a waiting time before something else comes out that clicks with me. Will it be Stellar Blade? Indika? …am I seriously waiting for Erdtree or beyond? It sort of feels like it right now. I don’t even have excitement for Erdtree at the moment, given how long it’s been since I played Elden Ring. The rust is real. Lol.
I might finally try Helldivers 2, though I’d be doing so solo as my friend group all purchased it, but no one else seemed interested in it. My social gaming group is considering trying Fallout 76 now, so maybe I’ll try that, even though last time I played it, I gave it a 3/10 review. I’ve still yet to start the Fallout show though. I feel like I’m behind on the entertainment stuff at the moment. I’d like to watch Fallout, that new Walking Dead series, and Sand Land asap, which I typically am not a tv show person, but here we are. Just feels like I’m in a funk. I do enjoy Dave the Diver though.
On Series X, based on the recommendation of a friend I’m playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Game Pass. It’s actually the first Tomb Raider game I’ve played. Very impressed so far! Good fun and looks great. I might also have a go at Dave the Diver on PS5 which looks good and is on PS plus.
And I’ve got Monday off. 🙂 Have a nice weekend!
Harold Halibut has just not done it for me. Kinda bummed about that one. Probably nothing much for me this weekend, but Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is just a few days away. I'm really expecting to sink my time into this one for the foreseeable future.
Robocop - I've finished and platinumed it. Really good game, old school fun and great humor. Can really recommend it!
Synapse - The gameplay in this game is really fun and addicting, and as you play you unlock some cool abilities that makes it even more fun. Like being able to use kinetic powers to grab and smash enemies There are also generous save point making it easy to play in shorter bursts as well as longer sessions, I tend to play shorter sessions when playing in VR.
Immortals of Aveum - Started this after finishing Robocop and I have to say I'm surprised at how much I enjoy it given the mixed reviews. The first two hours are really good imo, it might get repetetive and tedious and boring after a while but after rereading the review here on EG I dont really agree with some of the negative points, at least not yet. Interesting to see how I feel about the game in 10 hours more but right now I'm looking forward to playing more
Dave the Diver - I've played a bit, and can see the appeal so I'll play more but I dont think it'll be my GOTY. But its a nice game to play in between other games
Miasma Chronicles - I liked their previous game Mutant Year Zero and this game is very similar in gameplay but I feel like the setting and story in Mutant was better but I havent played for that long so it might change. Another game Im playing a short while here and there.
Harold Halibut - looks absolutely amazing but plays slow and boring as hell sadly... might give it some more time though, it might grow on me
Still playing (and loving) Valhalla. I think I'm nearing the end of the main story.
Maybe I'll play some Double Dragon Gaiden too, which was really fun.
Finished Wo Long. Loved this game and didn’t expect to - the most fun hack-slash combat I’ve ever played. Recommend playing in resolution mode with no companions.
Fallout 3 for me going to try get the few achievements I missed before hopefully they fix fallout 4 achievements on the update I'll polish that off then ha
Xbox - Diablo 4, mlb the show, fallout 76
Pc - need for speed hot pursuit remastered
Nintendo - pokemon gold (emulation)
Taking a break from CP2077 and playing Forza Horizon 2 on my ROG Ally. Also played a bit of RDR1 which works/looks great on the Ally as well.
Only 3-4 hours into AC Valhalla and really digging it. Visually stunning, bit of hack n slash, bit of stealth, interesting story. One thing I've not heard many reviewers talk of is the ability to climb almost anywhere, ie mountain passes. Makes the game feel more explorative.
Angry Birds Star Wars II (Windows Phone) - Since I'm packing to move to my first house. I'm just playing this one game this weekend.
Dead Island 2, but will likely switch to fallout 4 when the update comes out. Never played fallout 4 so it'll be the perfect time to do so
Xbox: Deathloop
Switch: Valiant Hearts
PC: X-Men Mutant Apocalypse (SNES Emulation)
Just finished A Little to the Left with my wife, such an relaxing game
I've got Dead Island 2 and NHL 24 ready to go on the box but since the gaming PC is up and running I've mainly been on that. Absolutely love the XCOM reboots and now I can play with mods so all my time right now is on XCOM Enemy Within with the Long War mod. Also Helldivers 2 because democracy won't spread itself.
Pretty much only skyward sword on switch and diablo 4 on xbox. There's quite a bit coming out soon, so i don't want to take on anymore games. I also want to play fallout 4 after nearly finishing the show
Definitely toted NHL 24 (though I had purchased outright).
PS5: Street Fighter 6 and Fallout 4 (backlog)
Series X: Witcher 3, my fifth playthrough or something. Havent played it in years but decided to do another run and take my time with it. Such a great game. I love being back in Velen.
Switch: Super Mario Wonder (backlog)
Last night I finished Blacksite: Area 51 which certainly wasn't anything special, but I was curious about it as a big fan of Harvey Smith. It ended up being pretty okay, but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. Too generic.
Today I played a little more of Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, and I'm glad I did because it is starting to get a little more interesting.
I also picked up Lies Beneath after putting it down for about 6 months and played through a chapter. I'll probably just chip away at that one just every so often when I'm in a VR mood. It's alright, but not compelling enough to devote a lot of time to it.
@IGN_Commenter
Really cool game. Combat gets better with new skills and weapons. You can even use one shield on each hand to attack, just for the giggles.
I'm going to finally get around to wrapping up with Tell Me Why this weekend. Still haven't decided whether the title is from a song by the Backstreet Boys or by Taylor Swift, but as an old geezer gamer myself, my vote will always remain with The Beatles.
@Link41x Congratulations on the new house.
XDefiant (Series X) The server test is this weekend so I will be popping on for a few sessions. Still really enjoying this game.
Fallout 76 (Series X) I started playing this again (I wonder why) and yes it's a big improvement over launch. I will continue my exploration of the Wasteland some more this weekend.
World of Warcraft (PC) Still exploring Azerioth and hoping to hit level 70 on my Bloodelf Mage by the end of the weekend.
@everynowandben black site? On 360
I started Ravenlok on Friday since it's leaving gamepass at the end of the month. A couple hours on Friday and a couple hours today, and I think I'll be able to finish it tomorrow. I'm a big fan of the voxel art style, and while the game is simple and pretty easy, I've enjoyed it.
I'll get back Eiyuden Chronicles: Rising after that and hopefully finish it by next weekend.
Started Hogwarts last week, so playing a bit of that around my other weekend plans. I also have COD black ops and Sonic Origins on the go, but now I'm 9 or 10 hours into Hogwarts, it's taking over!!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)

@adderblack39 Yeah, although I was playing the PS3 version (via RPCS3).
I'm currently playing Tears Of The Kingdom, Just passed the 100 hour mark and still finding so many things to do..
@Tasuki Thanks! A long time coming for sure! Alas, I still hate packing and moving
I'm away right now, but will be home this evening to carry on with Harold Halibut. I've only played the first hour or so and nothing has happened yet, so need to give it more time before I pass judgement on it
Also considering buying Back 4 Blood as I didn't get to finish it before it left gamepass.
May also throw a little time into Doom, Brotato and McPixel 3
Happy gaming everyone 👍👍
@FarmDog08 I've put around an hour into Harold Halibut so far and nothing has happened, but I like the look of it so it definitely needs to give more time in my eyes. I hope it picks up soon!
@The-Grezzly-Bear I made it 3.5 hrs and I found it incredibly boring.
@FarmDog08 😂 it's not looking good then!
Alrighty here we go with another WAYP. Gonna be a real busy one this week with everything that’s occurred and everything upcoming this week. Who told the last week of April to be so packed????? Anywho here we go with a packed week of some Dragons Dogma 2 and the FFXVI DLC The Rising Tide as well as some more Princess Peach Showtime and AI: The Somnium Files. AI in particular is just absolutely excellent. Also snagged a bunch of good sales this week like Suicide Squad and Hollow Knight. Even some preorders like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Little Kitty Big City. Even snagged WWE 2K23 for cheap to get some wrestling love going. We love Rhea Ripley. As for this weekend I dabbled in some of the Splatoon 3 Springfest and some WWE 2K23 and the rest of the weekend I’m thinking some Trails Into Reverie and some Persona 3 Reload. Loving both of those games too they’re really exciting RPGs. As for the week ahead oh boi we got a busy one we talking Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, Tales of Kenzaura: Zau, Saga Emerald Beyond, the Fallout 4 PS5 upgrade, the Knuckles show, the full Persona 3 Reload OST on Spotify, and the crown jewel of the week Stellar Blade. To say I’m excited is a bit of a understatement because I am positively hype. Of course I’ll be working with all those games on Switch and PS5 and others already listed like Suicide Squad but I’ve of course still got other ones I’m looking to put more time into as well like Pepper Grinder, Another Code, Mario Vs Donkey Kong, FFVII Rebirth and probably many more I’m already forgetting hahaha. Anime this week are gonna be a shout-out to the standouts of the Winter season before next week we pick out our Spring ones. Those of course being Witch and the Beast, High Card, Metallic Rouge, Shangri-La Frontier, Undead Unluck, Delicious in Dungeon, and my GOAT URUSEI YATSURA. Also might get to go on a ooting this week and get to see the new Spy X Family: Code White Movie. Also in terms of shows I’m gonna try to focus on Twisted Metal and FALLOUT and of course Knuckles. As for podcasts of the week I gotta give it to my usual favorites like Castle Superbeast, Big Think Dimension, Into the Aether, RPGsites Tetracast, Remap Radio, Minnmax, Windbreak and Firelink and just like the games probably so many more that I’ve forgotten. With how my jobs getting with morning shifts I’m getting to cash in on those GOTY podcasts. Don’t think I mentioned this here but I also completed the full smash bros set of amiibos a week or two ago. Extremity proud of it. And of course we gotta give a lovely shoutout to my good friend over at twitch.tv/akibread and their stupendous stunning streams. As always y’all stay safe and be good to each other. Have a great rest of the weekend and week, And Happy Gaming.
AC Valhalla continues on here. Nearing the end but it’s just way too long. Been playing halo infinite online working on achievements and got all I wanted. Now looking forward to start single player soon. But dead island 2 is next on the menu for me. Hoping to start next week. Did pick up fallout 4 dlc ready to play again. Completed once when first released and was really disappointed compared to 3 having been one of my fav games
NHL 24, is course. Still miss 2k sports, though. Especially MLB 2k.
Bit of a quiet weekend to be honest on the gaming front. I played a few hours more of Assassins Creed 2 and a few games of Crimson Clover on my switch.
