Today, we've been putting a spotlight on the incredible 2025 roadmap for Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, Activision and others, and while there are loads of amazing releases on the way, Fable is one that absolutely stands out at first glance.
It was all the way back in July of 2020 that Playground Games' new Fable project was first revealed to the world, and although we haven't seen much of it since, Xbox has it penned for a 2025 release - seemingly late in the year.
There's just one problem with that though, and it arrives in the form of GTA 6. Publisher Take-Two has insisted on multiple occasions that GTA 6 will release at the end of 2025 — despite speculation that it'll get delayed — and if that ends up being the case, it could ultimately spell disaster for whatever ends up launching alongside it.
The difficult part for Xbox, along with many other publishers with games to sell in late 2025, is that there's no way of knowing whether GTA 6 will stick to its intended release window or not. If the game were to be delayed in summer, for example, then Microsoft would still have time to slot Fable into October or November.
If GTA 6 retains its 'Fall 2025' window right until the last minute though, Microsoft will need to pick a date and stick with it. Avowed seems to have really benefited from the delay that it was afforded recently, being pushed back into the calmer February period, but what if that happens to GTA as well?! There's every chance of seeing that in 2026.
So, what are your thoughts on this? What kind of window should Xbox be targeting for Fable - especially considering GTA 6 might land around the same time? How would you handle this situation? We're very keen to hear your thoughts!
What do you reckon? Let us know down in the comments section below.

I have zero interest in GTA 6, but even I know that anything releasing close to that is doomed to fail. So yeah, even if it's two different genres, it would need to get as far away as possible from that release date.
Just drop them same time. Very different games. Sure there will be some overlap of people who want both, but I don't think it will be all that significant. As long as it's marketed so the people know it's out there while they're getting slapping and gagged with GTA 6 propaganda.
Just move it a month or two away.
I will handle the situation by playing them when ever they release & I have the time for them. If they clash well its not like they are going to delist them any time in the next few years so i can wait for one or the other if necessary.
My hobby is to play the games that look fun to me not fret over marketing strategy, financials & sales.
@Lup I could care less about GTA either. Just give me Claire Obscure: Expedition 33!
It probably doesn’t matter much as it is of course a GPU release.
Depends I guess if fable is multi platform day one on PS5, as that could affect sales on PS5.
There is no GTA6 PC release.
If it’s ready just release on Xbox and maybe PS5 early in 2026 when a good time is available, that’s what I would do.

Just release it around Christmas or something i don't know 🤷
Fable should still release this year it's a completely different game to GTA so just release it I'm looking forward to it if GTA was coming or not even if it releases about the same time id still find time to play it with GTA!
I'm dying to kick some chickens again!!
No interest in GTA6 so please don’t delay Fable because of it. My advice would be to get it out the door ahead of GTA6 - otherwise how long do you delay?….a month, two months, a year?!….GTA6 will have insane demand and the longest of long tails (however little I think of it).
@FarmDog08
That one releases close to my birthday! So it'll be an amazing early birthday present. It looks so good.
Maybe put both games physically in a specially-marked box bundled with an Xbox console and then get this, market it, and sell it in "stores".
@Lup Mine is in a few weeks. The Suikoden 1 and 2 Remake is coming out and I'm really interested in getting that.
obviously gta is the big dog at the table, but if I had to choose between the 2 fable wins everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. I bet there is a large crowd of Xbox people who feel that way. Currently I have no burning desire for gta 6. I'm sure it will be the most successful game ever but I really do think Fable has a pretty big market if it's not a mess when released.
They are two completely different games, two completely different experiences. I have no problem with them being released even close to each other. Fable will be on gamepass anyway.
Maybe it's even a good thing that they come out at the same time, it will probably push some people to get it via Game Pass rather than buying it since they will have to buy GTA 6.
wait for GTA 6 to release so more people buy an Xbox series S because thats the cheapest entry to GTA6, more consoles more games more gamers more fable sales.
@Ricky-Spanish will you be playing fable / gta 6 before or after your poultry punting practice period?
@RiverGenie What??
I don't get what you mean mate??
Hahaha 😂🤣 just got what you meant there bud haha 😂 you can kick chickens in the fable games so during fable would be the answer 👍🤣😂
Just launch them at the same time, I doubt the crossover between players would have a big impact on fable.
They need Fable to fill out the late 2025 Game Pass lineup. Delaying it would hurt Game Pass. Game Pass is their golden goose. So I don’t see Fable likely to be delayed just because of GTA.
I have no interest in GTA6 - especially not GTAO and certainly wouldn't pay more just because its 'GTA'.
GTA no doubt will be 'big' but I don't think its competing with Fable. Its a different game, different world, different style etc and won't be on Game Pass Day 1. There will be many that may choose to play Fable for 'free' on Game Pass and may wait for Christmas or Sales for GTA - especially if they do charge more.
Personally, I prefer Fable to GTA. I also think that Game Pass does make a difference on Xbox and being able to play games like Fable Day 1 at 'no' extra cost means you don't have to 'budget' or try and decide which game(s) to buy (or budget for), which to wait for reviews/sales, which you can skip. You don't have to buy any game Day 1 when its at it's most expensive and often at its weakest (in terms of Content, polish etc) - you can 'wait' for sales, patches/fixes, additional content/features etc and still have 'new' games to play.
If Fable was purely competing for 'sales', then you'd imagine that some would have to choose between buying GTA or Fable and GTA is certainly much more popular today. Many probably never played Fable - certainly not when they were 'new' so would seem more unknown.
But like I said, Fable isn't costing Game Pass Subscribers to play and therefore many Subscribers could well choose to play Fable rather than spend $70+ to play GTA - its not 'competing' with GTA on Game Pass - which is a 'Platform' too of course!
Well, people aren't just going to say "it's fine, Xbox, don't bother releasing anything for our game pass subs q4 - we all know GTA vi is out and understand."
These games are literally apples and oranges in comparison.
First off, I don't think Fable will be out this year.
Secondly, maybe the reason we've yet to hear any more about it is because Sony have bought it as an exclusive... 🤣
I think both might be 2026 haha. If they both do release in fall 2025 then I can imagine Fable will shift either a month before or after GTA6. I hope for everyone's sake T2 and R* give us a date before the summer so other developers can actually make some commitments.
I would let it go whenever it's polished and ready and not focus on what other people are doing. Gta won't be on pc, gta is not a fantasy rpg. Fable can exist in the world at the same time as Gta6.
No reason why they can't come out at the same time. They're completely different games and people seem to be ignoring the fact that it is possible to buy and play games at the same time, buy and play games at different times, and play games after they release.
Haven't played GTA since GTA 4. The premise of 5 just didn't do it for me at all. That said, 6 does look interesting (two spouses? Yes please!!). Will anything that releases alongside it survive? Probably, but if a game wants even a subtle piece of media spotlight or word-of-mouth internet hype, they'd be best released at another time. Fable included.
GTA is just, by default, going to swallow everything across the world wide web for at least 2 weeks prior and post launch.
On the topic of Fable, though, am I alone in thinking that this is one of the few IPs that would make a stellar movie adaption? In the same style as the Honor Among Thieves movie from a couple of years back.
I certainly wouldn't launch anywhere near GTA 6, but it's probably fine because Playground could probably get away with pushing Fable back to this time next year. This looks like a year where we will have tons of games to play.
@MonsterMike I read the first sentence of your comment, glanced at your profile pic and all I can here is that sentence being said in the same tone as 'let the boy watch'.
Not sure Gta VI will have any impact honestly. Unless they release the same week, then maybe.
This is a tough one, cause on one hand it’s Fable coming back after a long lay off. It would shine a lot easier in its own slot. But GP and the rest of the year could use its services. GTA 6 is going to be a monster for years or even a decade to come. My gut say’s avoid GTA, my heart say’s i really want to play Fable this year. One ting is for sure this is the best attention Fable has gotten since part 2. I expect it to be good. But we have seen good games get blown out before by a mega release.
Dont delay fable! That is my most hyped game, even more than GTA.
There is little to no cross-over here, as long as they are not in the same week I dont think sales will be affected too badly.
I'm hoping for fables success, but I have no idea at all if a different studio can continue the legacy convincingly. I hope so.
GTA6 on the other hand will continue to define AAA gaming space and be a real experience to play, the whole industry is looking forward to that and that's my most wanted by a huge margin.
If GTA really costs $100 at launch, I'm tempted to say go ahead and release Fable as planned. I want to believe even GTA can't get away with such an outrageous price tag. Keywords 'want to' I've been disappointed by consumers before.
Game’s gotta come out some time. Obviously don’t release same month but other than that it doesn’t matter as GTA is an evergreen title. But for the few of us with no interest in GTA (hi) then it means losing a game if MS delays it to avoid GTA. Avowed is already a miss for me (I didn’t realize it was a spinoff/sequel so I gotta go play those games ) so short of starfield, coral island and street fighter 6…not much on my docket right now.
Some of us couldn’t care less about GTA6. I hope Fable recaptures the magic of the original. Fingers crossed.
