We mentioned here at Pure Xbox earlier this week how Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was shaping up to be a Game of the Year contender following its excellent reviews - so we're keen to see if you'll be picking it up in the near future!
This is obviously the sequel to the 2018 original, and we reckon it's a "brutal and brilliant medieval epic" that absolutely improves upon KCD1 - in fact, we're going to have to find a spot for it in our Best Xbox RPGs list very soon!
Here's a sample of what we said in our Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 review here at Pure Xbox:
"With top-notch writing and voice acting, one of the most convincingly real worlds we've ever roleplayed in, and an absolutely filthy line in humour, violence (and foul language), this is every bit the sequel fans of Henry's first outing will have been hoping for."
There's a bit of a caveat to all this though, and it's that the game is far from a casual experience. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is a difficult and time-stealing RPG that you'll really need to become immersed in if you want to get the most out of it, and it's not an exaggeration to say that it might take you tens of hours before you get to that point!
In other words, KCD2 is one of those amazing games that definitely isn't for everyone. That's ultimately why we're so intrigued to hear whether you're planning to buy it - along with your early impressions if you have picked it up already.

Nah. Not my kind of game and nothing about it seems interesting. I would be willing to try on gamepass but honestly my backlog is too big to play games I don’t care about.
Yes, but waitng till summer. It’s just too big of a timesink. I did the same with Baldur’s Gate 3 and it was a good idea.
This is one I will get eventually but I just don't really have time for it now. I have watched a couple of YouTube vids & i am still a bit concerned about combat being clunky which is what stopped me in the original kcd.
Still folks seem to be enjoying so I will give it a chance at some point.
I will be doing eventually, but it’s so big, there’s no point yet, as avowed is dropping soon, then wilds at the end off the month. Bought that ready.
@Isolte I'm already at the point where I am never paying full price for a game again, it has got to be at least 50%off to get my attention. There are literally too many good games I already own in the backlog to play.
Plus I have 2yr+ of GPU remaining & I'm accumulating PC games at around 300 games/yr on PC from EPIC (1-2 games/wk & daily games for 2 weeks during Christmas) & Amazon Prime games (approx 20 games/mo). Those 300 games/yr are not all gems, but even at 5-10% good games I would want to play, there is an insane accumulating backlog to work through... There is zero point in buying any games.
At this point the only "new" games I am getting is to put something on my wish list so people have something to buy me for Christmas, Father's day, & Birthdays, otherwise there is no point in adding to the ridiculous backlog.
@GoldenPants I made the same mistake (getting a PC). From the incredible Steam, GOG sales, Epic and Prime giveaways to free online gaming and Gamepass being cheaper, it's just a terrible terrible place to game. Infinite backlog, not enough time. I wish I just had a Megadrive and 3 games like I did in the early 90's.
Not a chance I’m hell not my type of game.
Read lots of reviews etc.
won’t slate some of things but definitely not for me.
Those that like hope you really enjoy.
AVOWED next week GPU.
When it hits the bargain bins (or gamepass) I will grab it. Too much other stuff to play to justify full price.
I am struggling with not purchasing it. I’m really curious, but not sure I’ll like it. So many people are calling it a masterpiece though…
I’m literally waiting for Avowed’s reviews and the potential State of Play to decide if I’ll purchase it now or wait. I’ve got store credit ready to burn and I just need to know what and when things are coming out to know how I’m spending that credit. I mean, realistically too, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is in a similar spot. I can’t preorder that one without knowing if Ghost of Yotei is going to launch on top of it.
I suspect I’ll probably have a decision when I’ll slate it in the year next weekend.
I have bought and downloaded it and it’s on the ‘to play’ pile. God knows why I do that when I could pick it up cheaper when I’ve finished the other games I’ve still got to play! 🤷♂️
No, the devs lied about its content and Hans being only 15 is beyond unacceptable.
I'm away this weekend and I'm itching to get back on it after around 20 hours played so far. The world is so dynamic and immersive. It's definitely one of those 10/10 games like an Elden Ring. I don't really like souls likes as they are more about the gameplay that the role playing or story aspect but I appreciate how well crafted they are and how many hours you need to sink into it to make it worth while. I aim to be juggling this with Avowed (which I'm very excited for) until AC Shadows drops.
I'm definitely interested in it but currently playing Indiana Jones so maybe when I'm done with that
It will be a definite buy at some point, but at the moment I just can't handle another huge time-sink game.
Between its huge time sink and its choices regarding saves I'll be waiting till a quiet period and which should mean it'll be more stable.
Buying the first one when it's next on offer then going from there to two if I enjoy it.
Exactly the sort of game i would have bought 6 months ago with it being so critically acclaimed and all.
But I'm being way more fussy these days. My backlog is probably a lifetime's worth already and to be honest my tastes are narrowing in the current market.
Games for me have become too complex and take too long to get to the point I'm enjoying playing it and not learning every system.
If I want complex I'll pick up a medical book for work. For my relaxation, give me simple to pick up and play with a nice amount of depth attached to a gradual learning curve.
Yes I've bought it ...haven't played to much ..seems decent but same time don't know if I will see it through ...I hope i do but ATM I can only play it in small doses
I’m still undecided. Have just bought the first game for about £6 in PS store sale, so shall see how I get on with that, even though everything I’ve heard says the sequel is better in every way. I’m hoping for a trial/demo for KCD2 🤞
No, mainly because I don't think it's going to be my sort of game. But also, I'm in the same boat as @GoldenPants; I've accumulated so many PC games in the last two years, it's ridiculous. So I'm being very selective about what - if anything - I buy this year, and instead look to actually play some of the games I've amassed. I'll be honest, it's not going great so far because Helldivers 2 has been all encompassing for me.
I'm surprised there aren't more positive comments here, to be honest. I've bought it and I'm absolutely loving it so far. That said, KCD1 is comfortably in my top 5 games ever, so I kind of expected to like it. It's exactly what I wanted it to be: more of the same but on a grander scale and with far more polish. Part 1 was a kickstarter, and I think a lot of the stuff that they couldn't do because of budget have been realised here.
@VoidPunk Are you talking about the same-sex relationship possibility for Henry? If so, that seems to be something that is really easy to ignore unless it interests a given player.
Henry was shown to be in a relationship with a girl in the first game (depending on player choices), and Hans Capon - who was a real historical figure (and was indeed actually only 15 at the time of the games) went on to marry and have children, so to me the 'canon choice' if you will, is clear.
I definitely will get it, but I'll wait for a complete edition with all the DLC.
I played about 7 hours of the first one, so I might just resume playing that for a few months and maybe get this when it's knocked down to like £20-30
No. I play games to escape the grind of daily life, not to recreate it.
Just ordered from CEX, with a voucher I had it cost me £11.
@FraserG it looks too janky and cringe writing
I seriously hope this game also comes to the switch 2. Perfect for that.
Wi get it eventually for PC loved the first one.
@Eejay
“went on to marry and have children”
This means underage sodomy could not have happened. Also the game isn’t historically accurate, Mansa Musa has been dead for decades.
The gold edition of the original game had frequently been like $3 on sale. Now it goes on sale for $30. Kinda crap.
Anyway I’ll be busy with avowed.
I can't remember ever enjoying an RPG more than this. It's an absolutely fantastic game.
I picked up the original on sale and I didn't like it at all, seems to go in the wrong direction for what I would want in a medieval action RPG game setting. It just takes it's self too seriously and feels too needlessly slow and punishing to play. So definitely not buying the sequel as sure it's better in some areas but still essentially the same game.

I've started the original about 4 times, but never made it past a few hours. It is an incredibly unkind and janky game to the player, and not much fun (although, I did like the writing).
I've only played it on PC, as the Xbox version always crashed when I opened the map for some reason.
I'll probably try the original again, and if I finally like it past a few hours, I'll pick up the GOTY in a few years' time (when it is 75% discounted).
@GoldenPants yep me too, i rarely buy full priced games these days, although i’m very tempted to buy Monster hunter wilds. I usually just wait until its at least half price
Been playing the crap out of it. Great game
I didn't like the first game at all and I'm sure I wouldn't like this either. Most unsatisfactory combat ever imo.
However, plaudits to the Devs, who had a strong vision of what they wanted to deliver and appear to have nailed it!
I've downloaded the first game to give it another try but i don't think these games are for me just find it too frustrating and don't really have the time to properly get into it.
Somehow managed to set aside some time last night to do the prologue in KCD1 (which I bought months ago for about £3). Didn't connect with it at first but reminded myself to slow down and acknowledge it's a slow burn. Started to get it at the end of the prologue (those who've played it will know which scene I'm referring to), so I'm going to continue when I can and see how it goes. This seems the most logical approach rather than throwing £50 at KCD2 for now.
@VoidPunk What games pre 1900 timeframe have you played that are historically accurate? And is that important to the enjoyment of a game for you? Not being salty just a genuine question I am curious about. I don't mind if games are historically accurate or not as long as long as it makes a baseline sense.

No. I'll have to to play the original first that Epic gave away for free. I'm more in the mood to try the first Dragon's Dogma. The latter was easy on the wallet at $5.
