Since Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard there's been lots of talk about what Xbox could effectively 'bring back' from the annals of ActiBlizz history, with Crash, Spyro and Guitar Hero amongst some of the most common suggestions. However, in the background there's always been a little bit of noise about Activision's take on Transformers making its big video game return - the question is, would you like to see it come back?
We bring this up today because, well, it's been 10 years to the day since Activision wrapped up its 'War for Cybertron' series in the form of Transformers: Rise of The Dark Spark. The team did drop Transformers: Devastation the year after, but when it comes to the traditional Transformers games that ActiBlizz fans are yearning for, it's been a whole decade since we've seen one.
Admittedly, Rise of the Dark Spark didnt land quite as well as earlier entries in the War for Cybertron series, especially critically, but there's still a fondness for that series amongst fans. We wouldn't say no to an ActiBlizz Transformers revival - anything that adds a bit of variety to what the company brings to the Xbox portfolio is welcome!
Another wrinkle to this that we'd love to see remedied is the availability of these older Transformers titles. None of the old Activision entries are available digitally anymore, and of course, none are backwards compatible or on Xbox Game Pass either. We get that partnering with a license like this could be hard work in this regard, but still, why not try and get them back and playable for fans in 2024?
As we still hope and pray for that big Activision Blizzard Xbox Game Pass drop to arrive, maybe we can also hope that the team is working on making this sort of stuff compatible with modern platforms. Lots of developers worked extremely hard to develop these games back in the day, and we hope Xbox manages to bring Transformers back in some form down the road.

Really enjoyed both 'Cybergron' games. I never realised Rise of the Dark Spark was related to these two games, I assumed it was a bad movie tie in of an equally bad movie. Despite the awful reviews (43 on Metacritc) i'm kinda intrigued.
Isn't that Hasbro? I thought Hasbro owns Transformers. So maybe they'd have to speak with them to get that license renewed.
I would love to see a Transformer Adventure RPG game where you are a new bot that grows and interacts with existing transformers and teams up however the story is around your creation and what it means to the transformers universe. I love transformers and one toughest thing with these games is what robot do you play with. Something like Hogwarts where the lore is all around you and interact-able but a unique and focused story independent of the films and comics.
It's the one thing I wanted from the showcase that I didn't get. Well, that and Everwild. Anyway, I think it's easy money for everyone involved and the fans surely want it. I know I really want to play War For Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron on my Series X!

If you are talking about this one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NqTcha4vK5U
Yes i really enjoyed this take on the Armada universe 👍
@Aniscape yes I’m sold on that idea for one
The only Transformers game I played was the one developed by Platinum Games, Devastation if I remember correctly. And it was quite good.
Didn't play either really that I remember anyways and it would be nice if they made more of them but there's the simple matter of those pesky licenses bit of a stumbling block
If Microsoft, Microsoft ABK and Hasbro got together at a table and went 'Hey, let's rerelease/remaster the Cybertron Trilogy', surprisingly, Hasbro are just waiting for them to ask!
Multiple sources close to Hasbro are seriously baffled as to why Microsoft (or Activision) never approached them earlier.
Also, I wish to correct the article. All three games ARE backwards compatible and have been for god knows how long.
I know a lot of people didn't like Rise of the Dark Spark. And while the Campaign was garbage both in story and being cheap in difficulty, the Escalation Mode was the best of the series. It had all the best aspects of both Escalation Modes from WFC & FOC along while improving them and adding new things. Choose any Autobot/Decepticon on their respective Maps, being able to choose from all previous Maps along with new ones, loadouts, the equivalent of Skulls from Halo to make things more difficult in exchange for greater rewards, various defenses to build upgrade and repair, Wave Bosses different for each Map, and good scaling in challenge to the Wave number + Difficulty Setting. They could cut the Campaign and just sell the Escalation Mode by itself and I'd buy it full price.
@ValentineMeikin They're not Backwards Compatible. Fall of Cybertron, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2, had a digital-only Remaster, and RoTDS was a cross-Gen title. So no way to play WFC outside original hardware and only FOC if you bought it while it was still listed.
@shoeses Fall Of Cybertron and Rise Of The Dark Spark are right now listed as XBOX One/Series compatible on the XBOX store.
They just cannot be bought digitally, and have to use an original disc.
@Mustoe
So you have played the greatest Transformers game to ever be developed.
If we ever got a remake of that game it would be day one for me.
All this talk about Transformers Armada makes me want to play it. Looks like i will be popping it in tonight!
@CutchuSlow it is indeed, and Activision only had a licensing deal with them.
Activision lost , or didn't renew the licence and I thought those games were delisted so can't be bought today (unless you can find a physical copy used somewhere). Therefore I really don't expect these to comeback or some 'special' deal being made to let the 'few' who still own a copy, still on Xbox and still going to play this game because they 'can't' sell new copies to new gamers in their store without a full licence...
They don't 'sell' Goldeneye - its part of 'Rare Replay' and can be played on Game Pass. That kind of gets around the 'making money' from anothers IP.
@Mustoe
Still have a copy that I play to this day.😜
