The team behind last week's Xbox Game Pass title The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has announced that over one million players have already experienced the terror of the Sawyer family in video game form. That's a healthy amount of horrors for one 24-hour period, and we want to know if you were one of the players facing those horrors!
If you've been playing some Texas Chain Saw Massacre since it launched last Friday, how've you been finding it so far? Are you happy with the game at launch, or does it need some improvements before it becomes a Game Pass rotation regular?
We were hoping to dive in over the weekend and get plenty of playtime in, but unfortunately, we've run into a fair few server errors since Friday's launch. Once we've gotten into games it's been good fun, but simply doing that has proved a tough task in weekend one. We'll keep trying as the team no-doubt improves the experience in the coming days.
If you've been more successful than us, how are you finding things? What do you think to the game so far? Vote in the poll down below and let us know your early scores!

No because I aren't playing it on series s at 30fps so I'll wait till I get a series x then I might give it a try but I aren't a fan of live service games full stop they should be free to play
It's not bad. My last session was only able to get about 2 matches since the lobbies kept waiting for people to join and the start menu kept loading. Other than that, the actual gameplay is decent. I can tell it'll get tedious for me after a while where there's not a whole ton of variation. Fun tie in to a movie franchise I enjoy though.
@Dan1283 it plays just fine on series s. It's a perfect GP release since you don't have to pay extra for it.
@NintendoByNature me personally I can't play things anymore at 30 fps everyone's different but I'll play on it series x maybe then again it's live service so I probably won't bother
@Dan1283 understood. If you're subbed to GP it's a well worthy addition to the library.
@NintendoByNature ok thanks for that 👍
Have to say it's a been a miss for me. Waiting to start a game takes faaaaar too long and you can be kicked having already waited close to 10mins with zero game time.
The world design and attention to detail from the film is amazing! But the gameplay is average and it's so multiplayer focused it encourages Microphone usage (something I always stay clear of)
I'm sure a select few fans will find lots of joy in this title, but despite going in with relatively low expectations it still feels underwhelming.
I've played 3 matches the other day. It's good, scarier than Dead by Daylight because the environments are full of corridors and claustrophobic. But DBD is more entertaining and has great variety. I don't know if a game of that kind, based on one franchise only can be sustainable.
I played a few games. I thought it was horrible.
Terrible, stupid tutorial video and took me forever to get in a game.
Reminded me why I don’t really bother with live service.
Sadly it’s ended up being another middling GP title
I’ve played quite a few matches. I haven’t had any issues getting into a game as others have mentioned. I thought the game was pretty good. I love horror games and movies. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the scariest movie when I saw it for the first time. I remember being so scared. Well… that carried over into the game. It got so intense that my watch alarmed me about my heart rate going up lol. It’s claustrophobic, gritty, and over the top at times. Not the greatest game ever, but I’ve been enjoying it so far.
@Kaloudz I don’t know about cloud specs as I don’t really do much cloud gaming. I tried it once about a year or two ago and didn’t like it. I had issues then with the game I was playing and the controls were very delayed. That was Viva Piñata, so controls weren’t that important on delay, but a game like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, delayed controls would be your death. But again, that was about a year or two ago. Maybe the cloud experience is much better than the one I had.
@Kaloudz ye it's 60fps on series x I couldn't play it that way my Internet is that slow at the minute I can barely play anything online but I'll wait for a while don't mind to be honest in no rush at the minute till I get a series x
@Kaloudz looks like someone answered you. Tbh, frame rates never bothered me unless it's at a crawl. Youre talking to a guy whos main console is switch 😜. So series S at 30fps is just fine. Besides, at least for victims, you're taking things rather slow. You're creeping and crawling through corridors 80% of the time. I haven't been a family member yet but i guess a higher frame rate would help? I doubt much, but who knows 🤷
It's not a genre that I typically enjoy but I might try this one at some point. What score is winning the poll? I don't want to vote since I haven't tried it.
@Kaloudz it's decent fun. I'm sure we have a major time difference or I'd say we can hop on a match or two together. I don't think online gaming too seriously, so you wouldn't have to worry about me dogging you if you get us both killed 🤣
@Kaloudz well the movie has definitely aged, but it’s still truly terrifying. I saw it when it was already considered old as it was made in the 70s. I saw it many years later and though I knew it looked older, it also has a realistic feel to it. Like a home movie. It’s one of those where you’re stuck in the middle of nowhere and you happen to end up with some psycho family chasing you, hunting you down. You liked resident evil 7, that’s where they got their inspiration from with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Definitely a watch for a horror fan. I’m not big into gore, but I can appreciate what they did with the movie back in the day.
@Kaloudz whenever you're ready my dude. I'm getting better. Out of about 20 matches, I've escaped 3 times. And 2 times in a row in my last 2 matches! It'll be fun playing with people I converse with here for sure.
@Kaloudz I think you had meant “first movie” in your post? If so, I’d go with the first movie, the original one. There’s been multiple remakes over the years. You can watch those later if you feel like it, but they weren’t as good. The original is so frightening. It’s very much Resident Evil 7 in the Bakers house. The family is so messed up it’s tough to watch at times. Now that I’m older, maybe I’d be able to handle the movie better, but that setting is what nightmares are made of. It’s dark, gritty, raw, powerful, violent…. Makes other horror slashers seem kid friendly. You don’t have to watch it to play the game, but I think the game did a good job capturing the feeling of the movie. It’s so unsettling at times.
@Kaloudz I hear ya on not getting enough sleep. Seems like so much is going on at the moment, there’s just not enough hours in the day.
The Alien movies were good. There was one or two of those I haven’t seen and I also enjoyed the first Prometheus as it falls in the Alien universe. The second one I thought was just alight. I currently am rewatching all the Conjuring universe movies but in order of when they happened, not released. Maybe I’ll give all the Alien movies a go after that.
I did see The People Under the Stairs years ago. I remember liking it but it’s been so long, I don’t remember much of it. I’ll have to rewatch that sometime soon.
Another good one that came out around that time was The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. If you haven’t seen it, that’s a good one. Nothing truly scary, more suspenseful at times. About a pregnant woman who goes to the Dr. She feels the Dr. did something to her that he shouldn’t have. She and her family press charges. The Dr. commits suicide. The woman and her family move on from the event. They hire a nanny to watch the baby and help out with their other kid and around the house. What they don’t know is the nanny is the Dr.’s widow. It’s a bit slower pace so you start to care for the characters when things start going crazy. But definitely give Texas a go. Again it’s old so be prepared, but definitely very unsettling.
@Kaloudz I haven’t heard of anything new in the Prometheus/Alien series. I hope you’re right that they are working on something new. I thought once Disney got the rights, the series was done as they are more about family movies.
I did hear about Friday the 13th getting a series. I’ll see it but I don’t have high hopes for it. That way I’m not disappointed if it’s not good. That franchise really needs something as it’s been too long. I loved the game, even though it was so buggy, I thought they captured the spirit of the franchise with that game. I hope they decided to make a second game as now the rights to the franchise isn’t in jeopardy anymore.
The Nun and The Curse of La Larona weren’t that good. I rewatched The Nun, it was better the second time. Maybe because I went in thinking I was still going to dislike it. It’s the first in the timeline of the Conjuring universe. The second nun is also coming out soon so I wanted to see it again before seeing that movie.
@Kaloudz the last Friday the 13th movie had more of a Texas Chainsaw vibe. You’ll understand that better when you see it. Yes, Jason did act different but what bothered me more was the script. It was pretty stupid at times. Especially the sex scene when he tells her she has “perfect nipple placement.” LOL LOL I was like seriously? That’s a line bad enough to go in the original RE.
Yes I think the Conjuring universe is one of the highest grossing franchises. I think because they can keep it fresh by going with new stories from The Conjuring. It doesn’t get stale and it can go in a completely different direction. Pretty smart of them. If one turns out bad, they can try a different haunting.
@Kaloudz Jason taking a prisoner didn’t make any sense. He was a killing machine. The first four from the series I really liked. There were a few here and there I liked as well. Most later on were a miss. It’s a shame because you don’t need some creative storyline. Counselors come to Crystal Lake… simple. Kill ‘em!!!
I never thought about how much the Warrens would make per film. I know they’re both gone now, but I would imagine the family should be making something off the films. Annabelle was based off a real incident. The real Annabelle doll was an old raggedy Ann doll. So do they get more off the ones based off of a haunting they had? It’s a good point you made.
As for the insidious movies, they could go on if done right. I haven’t seen the newest one. I think that’s part 5? The first two I though were so carefully created. If they continued like that, they can keep going.
@Kaloudz Ed Warren died in 2006. Lorraine Warren died in 2019. The first movie was released in 2013, so Lorraine was still alive then. She actually made a cameo in The Conjuring. The actors that played Ed and Lorraine were talking to a group of people, showing a video of an exorcism. The real Lorraine was in the audience and can be seen in the movie. Now I’m starting to wonder which ghosts were based off some of their real haunts and which ones are made up?
I’ll keep that in mind when I see part 5. I saw the reviews weren’t that favorable to the movie.
Let me know if you watch or play The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and what you think of it. If you play the game, give it a few rounds before giving judgement because it took me a few to get an idea of what to do.
@Kaloudz the killers do have the upper hand and now as you know, there’s 3 against 4. Then they start to outnumber you. The maps are confusing but you start to learn them. Keep quite and out of site. Sometimes there’s long pauses where I don’t move. Try and be as stealth as possible. Once you start learning the maps and the exits, it gets a bit easier. Jason was over powered at times in Friday, but I still felt like I had a chance. In this new one, the killers in Texas sometimes even give up and start quitting. Makes getting to an exit even easier. As you level up your characters, I’ve found upgrading their proficiency and stealth to help me out best. Proficiency will help you unlock locks faster. Stealth will help you go undetected and you can search for lock picks faster. If the killers are blocking all the exits, I sometimes get them to chase me to a well. I’ll jump down and get them to come into the basement. Then I try and sneak back upstairs and outside without them seeing me. Sometimes takes a few tries, but it’ll give you a chance to unlock or do what you need to do. Keep exploring because some exits are a bit out of the way and those are the best ones to try and escape. Keeps you hidden and away from the baddies.
@Kaloudz according to the game, grandpa was supposedly the best hunter. I don’t remember if they said something like that in the movie. I saw it years ago. Maybe I’ll rewatch it again when I’m done with the other movies we mentioned… and if I’m brave enough to watch it again lol.
@Kaloudz I have played quite a few games but I never played as the family, only the victims. I should try the family, but I didn’t like playing as Jason in Friday the 13th. It felt more like a chore to me. Maybe this will be a different experience.
I don’t remember if they gave the grandpa blood in the movie. Again it’s been so many years since I’ve last seen it. Let me know what you think of it after you see it. I thought it was so scary but I don’t think I was even a teenager yet lol. Now I may not find it as scary.
@Kaloudz lol I have to admit, I jump down the well a lot. It has saved me so many times. I think it might be too late for me to start playing the family. I’ll be bad at it and I think it’s going to match me up with people at a higher level now?
@Kaloudz yes, I am one of those well hoppers. If you played with or against somebody named EvilSilentFrame that keeps jumping down the well, you know it’s me lol.
There are 3 maps at this current time. The basements look a lot alike. It’s hard to sometimes tell the difference lol. Once you’re out of the basement, it’s easier to tell which map you’re on. The screen where everybody picks their character will also tell you what map you’re going to get and what time of day. If it’s a nighttime game, you have an easier time as a victim as you can hide easier. The three maps are the family house, the slaughterhouse, and the garage. The garage I think is the easiest to escape from. I personally find the house to be the hardest though I’ve escaped from all the maps multiple times.
@Kaloudz hmmm…. Hard to tell which map that is. They all have patches of grass or flowers you can hide in. You can watch some videos on YouTube to see what the differences are. I’m going to take a guess that it’s the slaughter house, but it could be any of the three.
