It's time for another round of Pick One! This week, to mark the fact that Fallout 5 will officially be in development after The Elder Scrolls 6 (which, admittedly, is probably a long time away!), we thought we'd use this opportunity to go and look at the history of the Fallout series specifically on Xbox, which goes back almost 20 years.
We did this poll in October of 2020, and it ended up being a tie between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, with both games getting 34% of the vote. So, seeing as we never had a winner, let's give it another go in 2022!
Let's take a look at what we're working with:
Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (2004)
Welcome to the wasteland where humanity struggles to pick up the pieces after a devastating nuclear war. As a courageous member of the Brotherhood, your mission is to bring peace to this post-apocalyptic world filled with relentless chaos and radioactive nightmares.
Fallout 3 (2008)
Fallout 3 includes an expansive world, unique combat, shockingly realistic visuals, tons of player choice, and an incredible cast of dynamic characters. Every minute is a fight for survival against the terrors of the outside world – radiation, Super Mutants, and hostile mutated creatures.
Fallout: New Vegas (2010)
Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland.
Fallout 4 (2015)
As you step out of Vault 111, you are the only remaining survivor. But you’re not all that is roaming the area. Mutated creatures and vicious animals stand in your way of avenging your wife and kidnapped son. Only you can rebuild and determine the fate of the Wasteland. Welcome home.
Fallout Shelter (2017)
Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault from Vault-Tec. Build the perfect Vault, keep your Dwellers happy, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland.
Fallout 76 (2018)
In Fallout 76: Wastelanders, people are now coming back to West Virginia. Two vying factions are struggling to gain the upper hand as the secrets of West Virginia are revealed. The Settlers have come to find a new home, and the Raiders have come to exploit them.

Fallout 3 as it was my first Fallout Game. New Vegas is a close second but the bugs I encountered when playing were too numerous to be ignored. Fallout 4 was ok... But 3 is my number 1.
I will not vote because the truth is a I never quite fully played all of them. But looking at results; no tie this time
New Vegas runs laps around every other option.
3 and New Vegas are my favourite fallout games! 3 was my first open world RPG besides Pokémon (didn't even know the terms RPG or open world at the time) and New Vegas was my first where I knew what I was doing, taking all the lessons I learned from 3 and feeling like a pro (sort of).
They where also the first games to open my eyes to what dlc could be, those and world at war anyways. Good times, dont think I'll ever be able to repeat those experiences. You can only experience something for the first time once 😭
Easily fallout 3. Amazing game. I’m currently playing through fallout 4, and though 4 does a lot of things better, the side quests just aren’t as memorable as fallout 3.
Fallout shelter is probably my second favourite fallout game. That one really surprised me. Played so many hours of it on the switch.
Fallout 3 had the biggest impact for me but New Vegas was a better game overall in my opinion so voted for that. Before this poll was listed, I'd of said New Vegas is the 'best' Fallout I've played. Fallout 4 seemed like Fallout 3.1 with a wider colour palette and some Clunky 'base building' mechanic bolted on. It didn't feel like a generational leap (like Fallout 3 did) and Fallout 76's concept (Online Multi-player Fallout) doesn't appeal - although my Son who is a Fallout fan too enjoys it now (didn't like it at launch). I can't talk about the Isometric Fallout games or Shelter as I never played those...
Fallout 3 was the first I played so I picked that new Vegas was good but had a lot of bugs at first.
If Bethesda had given Obsidian enough time and resources (or anywhere close to what Bethy would have had themselves with Fallout 3), then New Vegas would have easily been the best game so far.
As is, I still have to give Fallout 3 the win.
(Would love to revisit both with a remaster, hint hint)
I'm currently going back to Fallout 4 to get the 100% on it before I fully move on.
I know people generally prefer New Vagas but for me Fallout 3 is king, i've actually been replaying it this week and its so good. It was actually one of my first 360 games and i remember getting so hyped about it.
New vegas. I loved all the dlc. And then I'd pick 4 as second as I loved the survival mode. 3 was also great. Never completed the first 2 and why are they not on the list.
3 has the best story, New Vegas has the best world and slightly better gameplay, so I’d edge things in New Vegas’s favor a bit. Both games are 10/10 for their era. Loved both games immensely and could honestly call Bethesda the best developer of the 360/PS3 generation. It’s a shame Fallout 4 didn’t come close and that 76 was a disaster at launch, but honestly I replayed New Vegas last year and it holds up better than I anticipated. Curious where the future of the franchise will go
I love both 3 and New Vegas, but Fallout 4 is my absolute favourite, and it’s my favourite Bethesda game to date together with Skyrim.
New Vegas, but was tempted by f76 - for squits and giggles.
It's a tough choice between New Vegas, 3 and 4 but I went with New Vegas. All three of those entries are great, though.
Fallout 76 has votes!!! 😂
Someone must of slipped and hit the wrong button.
Fallout 3 for me, but only just. I loved New Vegas too, and while it did some things better, it did others worse. Shame it was rushed to release and jankier than ever as a result.
Only really liked fallout 3 tbh
Out of these? New Vegas. In general though i would say Fallout 2.
Currently playing 4, only played pieces of 3 & Vegas. Regardless of your fave, a very cool series!
In FO3, I played a cool and mostly introverted and sadistic anti-villain, who resented ghouls (or "Zombies" as he'd like to call them), but had a soft spot for helping those in need, and ended up having a Ghoul as his evil-fighting partner - and even as far as to say - a close friend.
That is until that fateful day, they both got ambushed by some common raiders, and in the midst of the chaos, a car exploded, and I saw my character's friend's arm fly across the screen. I later found him in the carnage, lifeless, with his arm missing.
It's moments like these that you seldom see in video games anymore, unscripted moments where you truly make a game your own. FO3 FTW.
Fallout 3 was one of the games that got me back into gaming after a graduate school hiatus. I could not believe the expansive world and choices. It will always be #1 for me.
New Vegas is fantastic, but it just can’t be first because of all the bugs. I have never owned a game that crashed so much. I even had a bug where the game would crash if I did not enter the strip wearing a specific cowboy hat. How ridiculous. But when the game actually let me play, it was pretty great!
I fully completed 3, 4 and New Vegas. I haven't played the others. 3 was the first game of the series that I played, and I did everything in the game including all the DLC (as I did with New Vegas and 4). I thought 4 to be an improvement on 3, but the 3 definitely set the template.
I voted for New Vegas though. I did a single run of the campaign in New Vegas, in which I did absolutely everything, and which took me 950 hours. Lived and breathed the game, and absolutely loved it.
Fallout 2 is my favourite but on the Xbox Its New Vegas.
@IronMan30 virus with shoes
New Vegas all day long!
I gotta go with 3. New Vegas felt like a perfect sequel where everything felt so right but 3 is still so damn good and was such a great entry to fallout
