My favourite Horizon game is called Test Drive Unlimited 2 🤔
While I'm loving Horizon 5 (I love the stories, scenery and graphics) I picked Horizon 4. A Moment Apart has been my ringtone for 2 years and I actually preferred the changing seasons to FH5 biomes. Apart from that, the OST in FH4 is way better and the world feels more alive. When I'm playing Horizon 5 I sometimes feel like I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 on XB1/PS4- no car traffic, the world feels desolate apart from the hubs fiiled with fans.
I voted for FH3. Yeah FH5 looks great, but from someone who mainly plays single player FH3 was better as it had lots of championships to complete. Unfortunately they ditched these from FH4 onwards in favour of the seasonal championships.
Of course it's five. The only other Forza Horizon game I played as much as 5 was FH2. So 5 is #1 and 2 is #2 😃
I picked 4 as It really Wowed me the first time I played it. It was fantastic!
5 although good I'm feeling more of the same, different setting, improved graphics.
Gotta add I've only played the last 2 games as the others aren't available digitally.
Only played 3, 4 and 5 and 5 is souch better than the last 2 imo. Would love to find H2 somewhere to dl though to try.
I'd go with FH3 as the best though dependent on how the expansions turn out for FH5, FH5 could overtake it. Points that FH3 do better than the others:
I voted for fh4. 4 was my first forza game, I hadn't played a horizon or motorsport game before and it was my first racing game since gran turismo 2! I was blown away not just at how far things had come but how fun fh4 was. The stunt driver, top gear and exhibition races blew my mind! Added to the fact that I'm Scottish and seeing Edinburgh and surrounding country in a video game was special. Normally when Scotland is represented in media its gritty crime/deprivation or someone needed a voice actor for a dwarf in a fantasy game! I'm loving 5 too and the diversity of the biomes is great.
I've only played Horizon 4 & Horizon 5. Horizon 4's map was very boring, Horizon 5's map is amazing but the stories could be a lot better. I would say Horizon 5 is my favourite because it has the better map and is overall much better.
Although I love 5, still feel 4 is my favourite. The seasons were a great addition and I liked how much impact it had on the cars. The 2 expansions were great too. Maybe my mind will be changed when 5 gets updated and expansion. Have to remember that a lot of the content in 4 was added post launch.
Where is the Fast and the Furious?
3. The prefect Forza before they made it’s a grind fest and too much focus online. It’s still amazing game. But everything with 3 was spot on. forzathons were fun and not intrusive. The map had loads to do but wasn’t flooded. Soundtrack was amazing. Map was amazing.
5 is good but it’s not better than 3. 1 was brilliant too. The fast and furious one was a lot of fun too.
@Grumblevolcano all spot on apart from Hot wheels. Didn’t connect with that at all but the snow expansion was amazing.
The first game is still the best. Going off road is overrated, the soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal (and reduces in quality with each release) and the fiction festival schtick right on the nose. Opponents had proper names instead of 4th wall breaking random gamertags. You felt like a competitor in a real life event rather than a player on a videogame map.
But for me the absolute star of FH is Colorado in the fall. The map is massive by Xbox 360 standards and yet I could draw the whole thing out for you, such is my knowledge of it. The environment and foliage is stunning to look at but it really comes alive in golden hour when the sun sets over the mountains and you get all sorts of bloom effects in the camera. Compare this to the barely noticeable sunset in FH5 and pardon the pun but they are night and day.
The online was better in FH. You just picked a track and raced opponents. The festival was yours and yours alone. No convoys or eliminator gimmicks; just the track and opponents.
I enjoy the whole series and 5 is still a great game, and if nothing else a return to the quality of the 2nd game (which had that beautiful rain effects with the storm coming in and then going leaving reflections over the track).
FH4 is still the clear winner for me.
FH5 is spectacular obviously, and Playground Games always deliver technically.
But I still think FH4 is superior in a few ways. Despite 5's graphics tech upgrades, I still think 4 looks more convincing/realistic. They really nailed the English weather and lighting, it looks superb. Especially at 4k60 on the Series X.
FH's world feels more alive - more cars, more animals. They've also slightly dumbed down the handling/physics in 5, it feels a bit too arcadey. Setting it to simulation improves things a bit, but 4 is clearly better. The soundtrack too, is far better and more memorable in 4.
I feel the map is overall better in 4. A bit more engaging, with a nice flow, and a nice amount of undulation.
Also, the dialogue/characters in 5 are nauseating. I mean, 4 was a bit cringey/cheesy in that regard, but 5 takes it to a whole new level of cringe. Probably the cringiest game I've ever played tbh
If that makes it sound like I don't like 5, that's far from the truth.
I think it's also one of the best driving games I've ever played. I just feel they struck gold with 4, it has a certain magic to it, and is near perfect all round.
I could literally not remember the setting of FH2. I’ve played them all, and honestly have loved each more than the least. 2 and 3 have more nostalgia going for them, but objectively 5 is the best.
@RadioHedgeFund I could not agree more! The first one had a soul to it that none of the others have had. I also think the dirt racing is boring. And what a sound track! I’m so glad it’s backwards compatible. I’m thinking about ditching the tedious FH5 and just replaying the first one.
Horizon 3 without a question. Although it’s been a while since I’ve played the first two. Enjoying 5 a lot still even if it’s not my favorite!
I have to go with forza horizon 5, a few months ago I wasn't really looking at this game as its a racer and that is one genre I don't do (apart from mario kart), but the closer to release it got and the more I read about it and saw footage of it the more it made me want to try it out and I really like the game so far (5 hours in), I like the open world aspect and variety of challenges, races available and the fact it has collectibles, story and a bit of lore.
This game hasn't made me like the racing genre though, I won't bother with need for speed, burnout, gran turismo or any other realistic driving games as I doubt they will be as immersive as this.
Also if after I have finished with horizon 5 will I be disappointed if I go to play the rest of the series?
I like 4 as its based in UK and from UK ha ha
It's nice to see the trend of growing popularity in this poll, great for the franchise.
For me? Number three is the best, I spent so much time in that version of Australia, and I don't have a particular love for that country (or to be clear a dislike either! Haha, I'm more indifferent).
FH3 is my game of the generation on Xbox One.
Here's a custom Forza playlist I put together for you all. Enjoy!

As someone who has just come come back to xbox after a 7 year break im really not feeling Horizon 5. Its far too "bro'd" up for my liking with alot of the characters being tediously annoying and "street" in the dialogue department. Its like when you watched Fast and furious when you were 14 and thought it was so cool but now say to yourself "do people actually talk like that" . Maybe i should install FH4 and give that a bash instead and see how it compares. Id take a track based Motorsport over open world anyday but since FM4 i feel they have lost their way with the career modes too although im enjoying 7 to a degree as the racing is still good.
This gen is my first ever Xbox so only played FH4 an 5. They’re very similar in gameplay but the graphics do look better on XSX, the ray tracing looks incedible, it’s distracted me an caused me to crash a couple er times. The map in FH5 is better with more varied scenery an terrain altho there doesn’t seem to be as much trffic in free roam. Overall i’d say FH5 is the better of the two simply cos it’s next gen, it looks better an is great at 60fps.
@Kidfunkadelic83 you should buy a PS5 an get Gran Turismo 7 in March. I do like FH5, it’s fantastic but i think GT7 will be incredible if you wan’t realism.
Not voting as I haven't played fh5 yet. But so far my favourite is fh3. Stunning game that kept me captivated. Great races. Great designed tracks. And the Australian setting felt refreshing at the time.
Fh2 is a close second.
I was really hoping I'd love fh4 but for some reason it just really didn't click with me. I've gone back to it since release and still I'm just not feeling it. I think some parts of it feel a bit too much like a service game.
@Bleachedsmiles FH5 is very much like FH4 gameplay wise. It looks nicer, the ray tracing is fantastic and it’s great at 60fps. The map is also better imo with more varied scenery an terrain. But they play very similar. I think it’s fantastic but i also liked FH4.
They definitely need to do something to freshen up the next one though. It's going to look stunning no matter where it is (I'm hoping Tokyo)...but it needs something adding to the formula I think now - give us the ability to step out of the car and take pictures...that wouldn't be much extra work. Stick aload of hidden 'pokemon' around in shape of 2D cut outs, and you're laughing.
Or add bikes.
Or playground games next racer should be bringing back the greatest racing game time has sadly forgotten...Project Racing!
@sjbsixpack I agree with the chatter...trying to push on this personality that it really doesn't need to carry it. The first two were campy...but it was more like an underground club for the elite to race these expensive cars. Fh3 onwards feels like it's a bit too camp yet not as self aware. I hope they tone it down a bit.
@FraserG Just wondering why does 4 and 5 have the same picture??
Anyway I picked 3 mainly cause that was the one I put the most time into. I am eventually planning to play them all at some point.
@ResoluteCustoms @Nic-Noc20th-C You can find disc copies pretty cheap. I picked it up a copy up from Gamestop a few months ago for $10. Unfortunately you can't get the DLC anymore.
For me, it's probably the original. It just felt different from the rest in the series, and everything was far more constrained to the roads. It made it so all the racing and challenges relied upon having to navigate the roads. After the game really opened up to letting you drive off-road and that made it so you could be a lot lazier and just ignore roads for the most part.
That said I love all the games, it's just that when it comes to which release feels the most special to me, it's the original. I am just glad they let us play it off a disc with X enhancement.
@Tasuki Issue on our end, fixed now!
@Tasuki
Thanks, but no good for Series S.
@Nic-Noc20th-C I have heard that if you find yourself a download from like Ebay you can still get it that way.
@Nightcrawler71 spot on. I agree 100%
I couldn’t get into FH4 for that reason. FH5 is fun but I think the pinnacle for me was 3
I love FH2 after a shaky start the release of FH2 was perfect spent many an hour playing this wonderful little ditty.
I may be alone but I not overly keen on 5 - great graphics but I’m finding a bit boring.
@F1at8mot0 Its definitely the law of diminishing returns but I still think FH5 is an amazing game, its just they knocked it out of the park with the original.
FH2 made obvious improvements to the open world like weather, better graphics and the awsome bucket list challenges but 3-5 haven't really added anything to the series.
@doomista HAHA, you achieved comedy
Can't decide between FH1 or 5 so didn't vote. I'm enjoying FH5 but the original was just a really special game back in its day.
@sjbsixpack
There is no Xbox ray tracing to distract you when driving, it does look amazing but it uses standard SSR, screen space reflections. RT is only available when viewing cars in Forza Vista.
Difficult choice.
FH1 is mechanically the worst (still exceptionally good) but the most exciting because everything was new.
FH5 is likely the best game mechanically but the least exciting as it's the most iterative.
It's a scale of those two factors in between.
I voted FH4 for the number of hours I put in and the "can't stop playing" factor was at it's peak. I've already found I'm playing FH5 less and can in fact stop playing... keep going back though.
@themightyant You’ve nailed it when you describe FH5 as iterative. They’ve taken a safe approach to ensure timely release, but I have been disappointed to date with FH5 because everything feels so similar to FH4. I’ll still play it quite a bit, but do hope there’s a good degree of reinvention next time.
@gamer5634 It's difficult because I genuinely feel it's the best game objectively i'm just not as into it as it all feels so samey and safe, almost like a fresh coat of paint or a large expansion to FH4. Like you I hope for a little more risk next time.
Regardless they are all great games and I am hyped for what this talented British studio can do with Fable.
It's difficult to know because I haven't played 1 and 2 and 5 just released and has to receive all the DLC. It's interesting that some people that probably haven't played them think that they are all the same because here it's obvious that each one is significantly different. The first one that I played is 3 and it blew me away, I just wish that it receives a FPS Boost (the Windows version runs at 60fps). 4 and 5 are enhanced for Series X so they both look and play wonderfully but I think 5 is better because of the map but the voice acting (that can be turned off) is annoying.
@Shigurui really? I didn’t know that. I sometimes switch to the view where ya can just see the bonnet of the car an. The clouds an buildings reglections look like ray tracing. And in some old cars, in first person, you can see the reflection of the steering wheel in the wind screen. Never seen that in other car games.
@sjbsixpack The game (not Forza Vista) has a kind of ray tracing for lighting, indeed. It's not real ray tracing but something very similar. It was explained by the developer when they announced the game and it's also included in the recent DF video, if you want to watch it:

I wanted to answer you because you're not crazy and the reply you got was slightly rude.
Horizon 4 for me.
I love Horizon 5. I've already played over 125 hours in less than 3 weeks. It will be my most played and most enjoyed game of the year. However, I do think it was a bit of a stop gap release for them. I know it had a year longer than any other Horizon game, but I think ideally they wanted the new Motorsport to be out before it, and to build on everything in that. I think Mexico was picked to let them get away with having large, empty areas, and I think it's the first Horizon where they didn't had any new kinds of events?
