For this weekend's Pick One feature, we thought we'd bring back our poll about the best Dead Rising game on Xbox, following the news that Capcom will be remastering the original title at some point later in 2024.
When we first ran this "Pick One" all the way back in late 2020, the OG game came out victorious with 37% of the vote, closely followed by Dead Rising 3 in second place. Has the consensus changed in four years? Let's find out!
Oh, and if you want to play any of these, keep in mind that Dead Rising was part of Xbox Games With Gold at one point (so you might have claimed it), while the likes of 3 and 4 are heavily discounted on the Xbox Store this weekend.
Let's take a look at what we're working with - remember, you can only pick one!
Dead Rising (2006)
Frank West, a freelance photojournalist on the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime, pursues a juicy lead to a small suburban town only to find that it is being overrun by zombies! He escapes to the local shopping mall thinking it will be a bastion of safety, but it turns out to be anything but. It's a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but with full reign over an entire shopping center, Frank can utilize anything to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.
Dead Rising 2 (2010)
In the sequel to Dead Rising, players step into the shoes of Chuck Greene, professional motorcycle racer. Surrounded by a horde of hungry zombies in the spectacular casino town of Fortune City, Chuck finds himself in a race against time to find Zombrex, the one thing that can keep Katey, his young daughter, alive. Can he protect her and make it out of Fortune City alive?
Dead Rising 2: Off The Record (2011)
Photojournalist and original hero of Dead Rising's Willamette incident, Frank West, takes center stage once again in Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. The new 'Off the Record' storyline means an all new Dead Rising 2 experience, where Frank faces off against hordes of twisted enemies, builds more outrageous combo weapons, follows his own unique mission structure, and explores brand new areas of Fortune City to get his biggest scoop yet.
Dead Rising 3 (2013)
Anything and everything is a weapon in Dead Rising 3. Explore the zombie-infested city of Los Perdidos, and find a way to escape before a military strike wipes the entire city, and everyone in it, off the map. With intense action and an unmatched level of weapon and character customization, Dead Rising 3 delivers a heart-pounding experience unlike any other as you explore, scavenge and fight to survive in a massive open world on the brink of a zombie apocalypse.
Dead Rising 4 (2016)
Dead Rising 4 marks the return of photojournalist Frank West in an all-new chapter of one of the most popular zombie game franchises of all time. With an unmatched level of weapon and character customization, ambitious new features including new zombie classes and EXO Suits, Dead Rising 4 delivers a heart-pounding experience as players explore, scavenge and fight to survive in an epic open world sandbox.

Dead Rising 3 is my favorite with the original being a close second. Didn't care much for 2 and had some fun with 4 but not as much as the other entries. I really enjoyed the characters and story in 3.
i really like zombie games but for some reason the dead rising games don't do it for me.
Dead Rising 2 was my favorite. Enjoyed Off the Record just as much. DR1 I liked but is kinda hard for me to go back to. DR3 ain’t bad, but 4 is kinda… meh.
I loved 4 the best but there all great fun games but I enjoyed 4 the most
Not 4.
...
More specific? Hmm 3 is the better game and I feel like it found a hood balance with the timer but I prefer 2.
3's tone felt off like it was trying to be grim and camp?
3's also feels generic compared to DR1's mall, DR2/OTRs psudo Vegas strip.
Again 3 plays better but when I close my eyes and ask myself to play 1 DR game its two I go for.
I’ve only played 1 and 2 so far, and it was 10+ years ago… but I remember liking 2 a little bit better because it felt a little more lenient with the time schedule. I would like to replay them, as well as playing 3 and 4 for the first time, but my backlog is massive 🥲
Picked DR1, really enjoyed that back in the day. Also liked DR2 and DR3. Never really tried 4 or the DR2 Frank West boogaloo
Idk but why couldn’t they make a next gen new story
2 and OTR are best, OTR being a little better because of small differences.
3 has cool combo weapons but it gets old fast killing thousands upon thousand of zombies in that atrociously boring and dull hub world, which is one of the worst I played in with those unnecessary highways and road blockages and tedious fetch quests for survivors. The DLC is pretty whatever. Mediocre and bland title.
4 is… 4, and I have never played 1.
I played a lot of dead rising 3
For me it's Dead Rising 1, and it's not even close. That game was so far ahead of its time. I loved the humor and creativity of it and personally I feel like that slowly fell off with each new entry. Of course, it's also hard to beat TJ Rotolo as Frank West.
Oh. I'm excited to see that a lot of people chose Dead Rising 3. I really enjoyed that one the most.
@TheSimulator
People don't want them.
My favorite was the 1st one, i remember pre-ordering it and got a blue shirt that said 'Chop till you Drop'. I also did like the last one they made as well.
Never played the 1st, started at 2 than 3.
Liked 3.
Tried 4, but the handling was so iffy, I just put it down after a few hours of gameplay.
It felt so outdated, I couldn't get myself to play it.
Overall I would still say that the first game is my favourite. Its simplicity was the best. I also bought an Xbox One solely to play Dead Rising 3. I liked that game a lot too!
The first game is legendary, warts and all. While I enjoy the other entries (yes, even 4 to a certain degree), they never beat out Frank West at Willamette Parkview Mall. I'm very pumped for the Deluxe Remaster and hopefully this leads to a proper return for the series!
This is tough to pick. I LOVE the first three. If I have to put them in order, I would have to say 2, 1, and then 3, but that order can change on any given day. I also liked Off the Record, Case Zero, and Case West. Nice twist and additions to the story. I wasn’t a huge fan of 4. It felt incomplete and it’s the only game in the series I never completed. Maybe one day I will.
I don't really like any of them enough to call one a favorite. They are okay but I enjoy pretty much every other zombie game more.
DR1 and DR3 are my favorites. I voted for #1. One, two, and three were cool, with only DR4 being lackluster. DR3 really needs a performance boost on Series X.
@EvilSilentFrame Dead rising 4 is great if you stick with it I don't understand why people don't like it I really liked it
Chose 3. Recently picked up 4 and will start later this year
@Ricky-Spanish what did you think of of the other three games? I will have to get back into 4. Maybe I’ll start it over and give it another go. What I wasn’t fond of in 4 from what I remember (and forgive me if I get some of this wrong, it’s been a long time) was it didn’t feel complete. The zombies looked pretty generic. The timer was gone so it was less strategic when saving survivors. I don’t remember having to bring the survivors to a “safe” zone. There weren’t any psychopaths. It just felt flat to me, but I’ll try it again. I’m itching to replay the first game again since seeing the trailer for the remaster so hopefully I can get into the fourth one.
Yeah no timer or psychopaths or many rescue missions just zombie killing fun and in a mech suit it's tons of fun and I own and love all of the dead rising games recently bought the 3rd one on sale so playing tru that at the moment when I'm not on elden ring
