Assassin's Creed Mirage is shaping up to be a bit of a throwback to the series' origins when it launches later this year, with more of a focus on tight, stealthy gameplay - and plenty of assassinations of course. Ahead of the game's upcoming launch, we played a good few hours of Mirage (more than anyone else at the preview event, as it turns out) and we've come away pretty impressed so far.
Our video producer Craig handled this one, admitting that he hadn't personally enjoyed an Assassin's Creed title since 2010's Brotherhood. It's good news, then, that Mirage feels much more like that Xbox 360 era title than any of the huge AC RPGs that have launched in recent times. Here's a brief summary of our hands-on time with the game:
"Having played through three different stages of Basim's journey to become a Hidden One, Assassin's Creed Mirage feels like a much tighter experience than previous entries. Stealth is really fun when you get it right and the 9th century setting of Baghdad is vibrant and beautiful. Also you can pet cats, so..."
Our full thoughts on Assassin's Creed Mirage are viewable in the video up above, along with more than 15 minutes of new gameplay to feast your eyes on. If you're at all interested in this year's Assassin's Creed, it's well worth a watch!

This is the game I've been asking for. I hope it delivers, I'm rather excited about it. Everything I've seen so far is positive in my eyes. I will wait to see reviews, as is my standard practice anyway, but I am optimistic!
@SodaPop6548 hope it turns out well. Do you think you'll be playing it in Arabic or English?
Hopefully it's enjoyable to people who prefer the recent ones too.
Aside from the era, the setting and blue hues, it was the tone and thoughtful narrative that smartly wove into historical events that made the first game the best one.
I know I'm the only one but I can't justify the cost for a 20 hour campaign...I'll wait until its inevitable sale. I am one of the few that loved Valhalla, its length and gameplay, so going from over 100 hours of gameplay on Valhalla, Odyssey, and Origins, this just seems like a step back (even though Mirage brings back some much needed mechanics from the originals).
I know a lot of people are applauding AC going “back to its roots” in Mirage, but personally I loved the huge open worlds and RPG elements of Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla. I daren’t think how many hours I put into those 3 games alone 😂
Will give it a rent..no doubt this will get praised and If they then choose to remain this way for the next few games...people will get bored and be crying for the games to go back to being like odyssey lol
I’ll give it a spin, but personally more excited for the Black Flag remaster. By far my favorite AC game.
@TheCrafter1578
I’m on the opposite side of the fence. I want shorter AC games. I don’t want 100+ hour games like that for this series. I wind up losing interest and just stop playing. 20-30 hour AC games would be huge step in the right direction for me.
It’s exactly what a I want: stealth skills that scale with player skill instead of level gating, a bustling metropolis to protect and classic parkour.
The best AC map is still Unity. It looks gorgeous on modern consoles.
This looks like a proper return the original gameplay, and thats gotta be welcome. If Ihad time....
@TheCrafter1578 Not even for $50? It isn't a full priced game.
I actually loved getting lost in Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. Not very excited for this as the RPG and immense world is what I loved about those, with Odyssey being my favorite.
@Casco
Odyssey is still my nr1 loved that game.
I didn't like Valhalla.
I want the ninja/Japan one forgot the name. Will be out somewhere next year.
